WOW! That takes me back...WAY back!! 13th floor elevators were a super 'groovy' group!! I will check out the other old videos attached here...should be great! 'You're Gonna Miss Me", yea, thats what I tell all my men as I walk out the door!!
Ha! I live in Va. I think the13 Floor Elevators are mad underated and unknown. But I've even met dudes who don't know who Pink Floyd. I remember wearing a Floyd shirt and someone said "what's on your shirt" and I told them they were photos of Pink Floyd album covers and they asked what Pink Floyd was. That shit blew my mind. Plus If I'm correct 13FE only had 3 albums so I don't expect anyone to know who they are regardless of how old they are.
If you like13th Floor Elevators, you've got to check out the new Pepe Deluxe comeback song after 5 years of waiting! Type in 'The Storm - Pepe Deluxe'.
Thanx for the upload. This track is really cool. hobby is to rediscover all those great bands from the 60s that didn´t "broke through". it´s a reel musical treasure. Listen for example to Music Machine and the track "Talk, talk" and of course a band from Scandinavia called THE ZETTLERS. Check up their versions of "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". Really f.....g good and with a bloody driving beat.
Too bad this cuts short! Dick Clark approaches the band, and asks Tommy "Who's the head guy in the band?" Tommy pauses before answering and then says:
If Dr JP Odwebb is watching, I remember you playing me this.
Werdna Nitram BA (hons) 2nd class fine art, Norwich. Lost track of you after Camden Town. Hope you survived and prospered. I did. And I never lost faith.
@melm4402 Yeah, a jug. It produces that instantly recognizable sound that the Elevators are known for. I believe some jugs have electrical components and are thus referred to as electric jugs, but in this particular video it appears to be only an amplified jug. Many people find the instrument interesting, but many also find it rather annoying and bothersome. Personally, I dig it. It's just one more thing that adds to the grooviness of the 13th Floor Elevators!
Where has the time gone since the 60s and the battle of the bands in Austin and San Antonio.....Rachels Children vs 13th Floor!!!! Doug Sahm...those where the days.
A cop asked me one time what the word heeded meant.
That just goes to show you that the ones who get to make the decisions are for the most part dull normal.
Anyway my experience in jail was the weirdest, the cops would record themselves saying weird random shit backwords on the intercoms and play it backwards real late at night.
Tikkatikkatikkkatikka tikkatikka tikka tick! I remember hearing this song in Tarzana in 1966 and thinking to myself "There's something very strange happening here!" Well it's 2011 and I still love the song. And something very, very strange indeed did happen, but it was a long time coming. The pride of Austin Rock, I give you the Thirteenth Floor Elevators!
Roky needs to update to a digital jug. I read a bio of the Elevators-the drummer wasn't that into acid-"Wrong group, maaaaaaaaan." That's why he was hiding behind the potted palm.
@TheKarallo i don't get it! Why are you telling the world this on youtube!! Do we all share when we last went for a shit! NO ONE CARES!! or is this just something you post to get ATTENTION!!
@SeaHorseGypsy Some folkies did in the late 50s. And Paul of Peter, Paul and Mary had one. Goatees were popular among musicians who wanted a "beatnik look." Mitch Miller, the Capitol Records music producer had one. (Maybe a different company?) He had a sing along show on tv every Friday night in the early '60s.
@Pukeman44 You know, back then, all bands had to mime their songs on shows. Some of them had a joke of betraying it by missing the words to be obvious because they resented having to pantomime their songs. Look for the plugless guitars! I just read upon this band's history, lots of costly drug abuse. But I still wouldn't call this garage trash. It was inspired and creative.
