@Ecthelion008 tokyo-marui . co . jp /products/01/scar_l_cqc/index.html Hopefully you can see that link. If you look at the picture it is 100% CNCed. Same goes with most all the other recoil shocks. Tokyo Marui is stepping up their game.
Airsoft manufacturers often claim that they CNC their upper or iron sights etc.
And... they do. But there is a huge difference between billet CNCed pieces and cast or extruded and then CNCed.
The upper is first cast into the rough shape, and the milled (AKA CNC) to the exact dimensions. This is slight better than simple casting since it means it will have cleaner external lines and more exact dimensions.
@Ecthelion008 But, the TM AK74 replicates the AK(kalasnikov) 74, so I'm not suprised that it did ^^ But the AEK arnt a kalasnikov, that is the issue =/
Have you seen the Marui AK102? I assume the blowback issue is fixed with because it was released a bit later than the 74MN. I'm interested in the 74MN but after hearing about the reliability issues I am now leaning towards the 102 although there are seldom reviews.
awsome gun but if you want a airsoft gun in the AK series i would go with the real sword type 56, its a bit pricy but if you have the money its well worth it
This review is over a year old and there are a plethora of upgrade parts on the market from Prometheus and Laylax. A quick trip to your airsoft shop in Akihabara will show you all you need to upgrade the internals and now many externals on this. It is still a fantastic gun very solid and and accuracy is top notch.
@Ecthelion008 what do you suggest to upgrade if you want to make it more accurate? And do you think a peq box lipo battery would fit? or could you just attach a external battery pouch?
Depends on what you want. If the recoil + blowback is super important to you then... yes. If not then get a DBoys Gen3, the full steel ones. See the review in my channel.
I would probably choose the DBoys/VFC over the Marui even if they were the same price. No joke.
Think of it this way, I'd rather pay 500 bucks for a marui ak74mn, then having to buy 5 new cyma or jg ak's at 150 bucks each because I'll have to buy a new one everytime it breaks. Even with blowback, TM AEG's will last way longer than jg ones without blowback
why exactly will the blowback wreck the gun? will it be the same for CYMA? because i saw this cyma one exactly the same to urs with blowback, and i cant find a non blowback version, and because i live in hk so i cant find them D:
Yeah, the problem is particular to 1st generation TM blowbacks only as far as I know.
The CYMA blowback you are referring to is different cause it only has a cycling ejection port. The TM models actually have felt recoil, which makes them unique. There is no competing EBB with felt recoil.
i was so dissapointed after u said that its blowback will eventually break the gun pretty soon,so im guessing im not gonna plan on buying this gun anymore, but do u have any suggestions that i can get a non blow back version of this gun(does not have to be tokyo marui) like,i like this type of ak, 74s like the fully black things so...any suggestions?
If you can afford to buy a gun like this, then you can afford the VFC. But really, the VFC ones are not that great to be honest. They are older VFC models and really are not worth their price these days.
Do yourself a favor, get a DBoys all steel 7mm bearings one IF you can find it. If not, get a JingGong, they have a really nice one that's a clone of the Marui one. Or a CYMA.
@Ecthelion008 i've recently found the one i guess i'll get,its the CYMA cm.047c, exactly the same as this except it has no blow back,so at $130U.S its worth it right? and i've seen the JG version, and the only one i've seen thats JG,they only have blowback version i think...anyway thxs for the heads up.
So, compared the the ICS or VFC AK74s, is it better or worse?
I have heard bugs in the ICS and VFC so I had thought of saving a bit more and grabbing one of these and when I heard of the breakage I was disappointed, especially if its from TM!
So, if you get one and get it fixed, would you say it is better than the ICS or VFC versions? Not stock, exactly, but with some upgrades to either of them?
No gun is perfect out the box. What you're looking for is a gun that is good externally. The internals are easy enough to work with.
If you want a real skirmish gun, stay away from this model. Get a CYMA or better yet DBoys and upgrade the internals. If you're rich, get a VFC, and upgrade a little less. ICS are not great only because they have so many non-compatible parts. And the 2 piece gearboxes are more of a liability than an asset IMO
Thanks for this informative video --- I was shocked to hear about the breakage issue as I was *just* about to buy one of these...
Now I'm having to think again, I may change my mind and get a non-blow-back Real Sword Type 56-2 instead.
I really can't trust UK retailers to tell the truth as to whether the TM AK74MN they have in stock is the upgraded version or the old one which will break!
Again, thank you for highlighting this problem - you probably saved me from an expensive lemon!
But if you buy this model or the AKS74U, you cannot know if it is a recent production or not. The recent productions have the problem resolved I would guess.
btw. what is the firing rate of that thing? for that matter, how many rpm does an average AEG shoot? i'm thinking if buying a kalash AK74M soon, so i'm kinda curious...
RoF is all about battery, motor, spring power, and wire
On a 8.4V battery (which is standard) this gun shoots around 18 per sec. That's not too impressive. I wouldn't risk using a higher voltage battery with this gun because it would fuck up the recoil engine real fast.
The Kalash AKs are OK, but if you want to run your gun with a 9.6V or above, you need to get a late version CYMA. I recommend the CM048, also an AK74. Kalash AKs cannot handle strong batteries that need for high RoF
shops here aren't that well supplied, and i'm really searching for a good replica of a AK100 series and the kalash AK74m replika is the only one with full steel body(there are some plastic ak105s)...
i'm a bit too busy to go skirmishing, so i'm looking for a strong, sturdy, realistic model to train weapon handeling and movement techniques for now...
opinion noted... i personally like the AK sights, and find them very easy to use after a little while of getting used to them... only thing that's a probably worthwhile addition is painting a white stripe down the middle of the front sight post to make it more destinguishable from the rest of it (and possibly fluorescent for nighttime fun)
Yeah, I always paint a white strip on both the front and rear sights.
In good light, with a bit of lining up, the AK style "blade and leaf" sights are great for precision. But in airsoft, IMO precision gets overruled by acquisition time, since the engagement ranges are so close.
Great job on the review. I got mine back in March 2009, is there anyway to tell if i have the model that's going to break. Also, does the recoil engine still kick the gun back once the bolt breaks?
The new Marui Recoil Shocks are all CNC'ed aluminium.
NewDivineWind 3 months ago
@NewDivineWind
HAHAHAHA.... NO.
A real SCAR's upper receiver isn't even billet milled aluminum, never mind the airsoft version.
Armalite, SCAR and basically any other aluminum body rife (we're talking the real thing here) is FORGED, not MILLED.
And Marui's bodies are all cast.

@Ecthelion008 Well Tokyo Marui isn't claiming CNC on just their sights, they are boasting 100% CNC on all their new products.

Is there a way to put a costumized or a real steel AEK-971 stock and handguard? Thank you.

Not sure but, people have managed to fit real AK 74 furniture on to it, so most likely yes, just needs some filing perhaps

ahadsz 1 year ago
@ahadsz Battery pouch since there's no rail for the PEQ.
And there really isn't any practical surefire way to make it MORE accurate. Newer TM guns are as accurate out of the box as they'll ever be.

GHK AKs are GBB, so they are a whole nother animal. Great realism, low performance and even lower reliability. Not skirmishable
