How the hell do I open notepad / click start (suggested by Microsoft) if I can't see ANYTHING?!

Do the following tasks:

Reboot your Windows in Safe Mode and disconnect all other monitors but One.If problem persists, you need to create .bat file to kill dwm process.

To create a new file, open notepad.Type “taskkill /F / IM dwm.exe” without quotes.

Save the file as “displayfix.bat”.Copy saved file to C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/Windo­ws/Start Menu/Programs/Startup

Reboot Windows.

If black screen still appears then use a system utility software like ReginOut.

thats odd. it said explorer.exe was running. i would definitely say that its because it is windows vista. windows xp will rule 4 ever! well it does run faster on most pc's. but i mus say that windows vista doesn't compare to xp or windows 7 operating systems. just get xp or windows 7 and there ya go! problem solved

Browsing files in explorer

Bootup WAY faster

Windows 7 is one of the best Microsoft has ever released... so if it is slow on your PC, it probably can't handle Windows 7 or something went wrong when installing.

BCOD isn't that bad cause it's easy to fix, but the worse one is RSOD.

ALT+CTRL+ DELETE and bring up the task manager. Click new task. Type Explorer.exe and wait. This should bring your desktop back. Remove the virus. Thats what you get for watching porn man.

boot in safe mode and restrict your file into spare hard drive/patition or external hard drive. then format => reinstall. but you'll need virus scan if you want to put these file back to new configuration

(Microsoft is an idiot imo... lol. they NEVER get real fixes for their OS. Insert your OS disc and go into the recovery menu and fix the start up. If that doesn't work, go back into the recovery disc and go into the command prompt and type:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr

i just installed XP onto it, and used the recovery disks to install vista onto my desktop (dual booted)

I have this alot and I know reasons how to fix and why it happens.

This is because there is a problem with your video/graphics card or an incompatibility program.

1. (Ctrl+Shift+ESC) (To Open Task Manager). Close Explorer.exe and Reopen it again by going to run. Or...

2. (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and Log off. Re Log in again. If it still doesn't work, keep doing it till it has worked.

Seriously, Vista sucks like bulls. 7 and XP Pwns.

livewirepyro its seems to be the loading time that takes forever. Your case isn't as bad as others that i've seen in my tech office. Some people would wait a good 5 to 10 minutes before anything appears. What you can try doing (assuming you have a multicore processor) is go to the start menu and type msconfig and press enter

go to the boot tab and click the advanced options

and select the number of processors to be the max amount. Might boot faster this way.

I know, I ended up ending the explorer.exe process and starting it again for a while just to speed it up.

I ended up just doing a fresh install after it took ten minutes to log on one time..

I just recently got a laptop and after 4 weeks it took about 40 secs on this screen. I noticed the resemblance and the only similarity between the systems were that they were Alienware's // and the ATI graphics cards. I reinstalled my duel 3870's and it booted like a pro.
