@MultiAnimaniac Because I find it more comfortable inverted, more like how we actually look up and down. I find non-inverted very awkward and unnatural.
@akkadianno And yet another person completely misses the point of a First Impressions video. I'm sure you were just AMAZING for the first ten minutes you played. Not.
@Zaranyzerak Sure men, I konw what´s the point of a First Impression, you have never play it before. . But, it doesn´t mean that you have tu SUCK!, I mean you are playing like you never had a controler in your hands before, thats what I mean. Greetings, i like you but you SUCK.
@akkadianno No, the controls of this GAME suck hence why *I* sucked my first time playing it. Again, you obviously don't get the point of these videos and you're being a douche about it. Goodbye.
I loved RE 1 through the remake on Game Cube. RE4 and RE5 is shit just plain shit. Capcom what happened to the controls they sucked on RE4 and RE5. They both felt like playing a fucking arcade game. Comparing myself to all the RE fans out there I am the only one that respects and still enjoys the roots of the older games. Also I really miss the old camera angles. Maybe add the the new and the old would be acceptable to my standards.
@Zaranyzerak Since you missed RE4 your not used to the 3rd person over the shoulder gameplay type and thats was first introduced in re4 so thats why the controls might be a change
@AlvinSpitoon Nah, played plenty of other games that do that. I just felt they did it poorly in RE5. Other games (like Dead Space, for example) did it a lot better.
This is 2009 capcom! this game fails, i think fans by now would like to be able to move and shoot at the same time. It was fine back in 1996 to about 2002 but come on? next Gen now... plus the story of this game just failed horribly and they ruined the characters. Actually, this was originally recorded in February, just not posted until several months later. As for RE4...think I'll pass. I've played 1-3, Code Veronica X and Dead Aim. I've had my fill of Resident Evil. Until they update the controls to actually WORK and stop using them as a cheap cop-out to build tension, I'll pass on the series from this point on.
RE has a face button dedicated for fucking running, but not dodging unless the game feels like it? That is some fucking bullshit. And lol at all the RE whores who stick to "tradition", and the "RE feel". If they played thru Dead Space and were still satisfied with every single RE character's lack of multitasking ability under pressure, more power to them. But some traditions are meant to be broken.
Don't listen to ulqui, if you hate the controls, you won't be able to get into RE4. RE5 was only fun for me because I played the entire way thru with one of my best friends. There are traditions meant to be broken. But it pisses me off when someone says I'm wrong, because it was an OPINION.
I did come off as a douche. But have you played thru SH6 or Dead Space? I've only played the demo for the latter, and that freaked me out more than the entire RE5 game. Think RE2... IN SPACE :P
You know how RE6 is supposed to get back to the roots of the series? Do you agree with me that DS-type gunplay could work? I'm thinking limited ammo, and enemies that HAVE to be shot in the head to be killed, or the spine.:P
You sneaky bastard. I see what you did there. I just think it's only fair to move and shoot, considering you have limited ammo, as well as massive amounts of enemies. Not quite Dead Rising numbers, but more than RE5 ever had in-game. Oh, and some melee combat, a la Condemned, would be sweet!!! Cuz bringing a knife/ machete to a zombie fight is ruhtarded.
2 Digital8 camcorders - one to record me playing, on recording a direct feed of the game via a dual output video switcher (with one output going into the camcorder, the other going to the TV so I can actually see what I'm playing...). I then capture all the footage to my computer and put it all together either in Ulead VideoStudio (which I used for this one and all previous video game vids) or Sony Vegas (which I use now).
Absolutely...There is no need to "fuck up" the controls to guarantee a frightening play experience. For me resident evil was a decent game but not what ive expected. It was like Capcom was trying out new things in the horror genre (mainly atmo things like Daytime etc) which didnt work that well. Anyway its ok. Nice video 5*
Yes, well, no other current game does that so it's high time to break tradition. Using a 12 year old control scheme because it's a "tradition" is silly. All other game series' refine their controls over time. No reason why one of the most popular survival horror series' can't do the same. For me, the controls completely ruined the game experience and took me right out of it. If the only way they can think of to create tension is to have broken controls...that's unfortunate.
Actually, I didn't find it the same at all. The controls in Dead Space were very fluid and intuitive, I found the RE5 controls very awkward. In Dead Space you can MOVE WHILE SHOOTING, in RE5 you're rooted to the spot until you lower your gun. Just because they're both 3rd person doesn't make them the same. They are VERY different. you are aware this is a FIRST IMPRESSIONS vid, right? How am I supposed to "set up some tactics" when I'm still figuring out the damn controls?
We're not in the days of cartridges anymore. ALL games have some degree of load time, though some are better at minimizing them than others. That said, try Blacksite: Area 51 some time. PAINFUL load times in that one.
It's not really a survival horror game anymore, so much as an action shooter. Still, it's a great game, and my favorite serires. And CO-OP makes it epic.
Co-op makes it bearable, you mean. Sheva is slightly smarter than Dogmeat in F3, and he'll try and blitz a Super Mutant Behemoth.ROFL
Also, this game's fear factor is a 1 out of 10 (RE4 a 3 out of 10). Dead Space is an 7.5 out of 10, and SH2 being a 9.5 out of 10. Plus, SH2 is more psychological horror, not really many boo!! moments.
Playing RE5 without a friend is PATHETIC. I will say Sheva is a crack shot though.:)
if you played Res Evil4 the controls would be easier to pick up.
but imho, res 5 was one of the reasons i bought a ps3, and after playing the demo, i didnt buy it. really disapointed.
and when at the end, "Fear you cant forget"...well i can say i wasnt scared. i almost shit myself playing Resident Evil 1. and 2. but annoying with the new platform they could have done anything they wanted to...
and what they came up with was a weak story. boring enviroments, and f**king shiva
I'm having a blast with Wolverine! I'm probably not going to do much in the way of a gameplay video of it, but I'll likely do some kind of review at some point. We shall see...
No harm, no foul man. We misunderstood each other I suppose. I was only stating that the control layout or button configuration is unusual on the PS3. I don't remember if you can change it or not. But anyway, that has nothing to do with the controller. If the button configuration is messed up and the options are limited then you are screwed no matter what controller you use.
Just a tip, whenever you talk about control, you might want to specify whether or not you're talking about in-game control (Those are called game mechanics by the way) or CONTROL, which would be the controller's button layout/configuration. There is a difference.
That's ALWAYS what I mean when I talk about control. Everyone has their own preference of controller, so I don't even go into that since it's so subjective. When I talk about controls, it's always about how well you can control the character, etc.
Inverting the Y-Axis basically makes the "looking up and down" control flight-control style. So up is down and down is up. That way just feels much more natural to me, more like how we ACTUALLY look up and down.
Y-Axis controls how you look up and down. When it IS inverted, you press up to look down and vice-versa. When it's NOT inverted, you press up to look up. Some people are just more accustomed to the inverted control scheme.
Oh, I know! But that's partly the design of the game too - so you just get FLASHES of what's in front of you, keeps you disoriented and pissing your pants...lol It's like that in the actual game, not just my vid. :)
You would probably be more used to the controls had u played RE4. This is just how the games are played now. I guess it takes time to get used to, but this isn't a run and gun game.
lol i had no issues with the controls at all but doctor your a liar you probably have never played the ps3 version i heard on the xbox the controls were meant to be 10x worse than ps3 so stop lying i am not being a ps3 fanboy but your lying really you are
this game is good not the best but good i mean i agree whit you saying the controles are flimsey.but it is good coop if you have a freind over.you should do more fear 2 vids
Give it some time and the controls become second nature. Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorite games this year it gets better as you get further into it.
It plays better on xbox 360 and I'm not saying that as a fanboy. It really does have better controls on the 360. I used to have the PS3 version and I just couldn't take it so I sold my PS3 copy and bought the xbox version. Visually they are equal but as I've already mentioned the control is smoother on 360. Cool Vid as always.
Does it let you run and shoot in the 360 version? Didn't think so. It's not the CONTROLLER, it's the CONTROLS themselves. Controlling the characters and making them do stuff is just really awkward. for all the beauty of the graphics and sound, they really messed up with the controls. Completely ruined what could have been a lot of fun for me.
I just realized! The beginning of this game is exactly like RE4! You enter the village and are overwhelmed by zombies. The only thing that saves you is a intervention. In RE4, it was a church bell that got the attention of the villagers. In this game, a helicopter comes and clears out the enemies. I don't really fell compelled to get this game because it does not look all that great. Just a rehash of RE4. Thanks for the video though, I can't wait to see more!
Got it, played it many many times, loved it. I actually talk about how awesome it was in my review of the god-awful follow-up, "Blacksite: Area 51" in the second episode of my podcast.
i remember when 4 came out, they said it was revolutionized resident evil or so. I don't know, I just felt like it was 3d graphics with the same control idea.. slow shooting with no running. It was more like they wanted the character to be tactical, from the police force. I like the idea of upgrading guns to fire faster..lol.
Meh, whatever, I don't need it to be connected all the time anyway. Just when I'm downloading demos or updates. I don't online game much...or at all, really.
I didn't like that game either. Though to its credit, it did play better because of the gameplay but not enough for me to buy it.
In fact most, if not all Resident Evil games have bad controls. It's just inherent to the game and it's a shame too because if there's one thing I do like, it's shooting tons of undead creatures.
I love now they turned resident evil 5 into an action game, but decided not to allow your character to shoot and run at the same time. This mechanic worked well in number 4 but really fucks you up in this installment.
To me I felt that Resident Evil 5 was like Resident Evil 4 in many ways. I don't know a lot of it bothered me. I didn't like that the menu screen was live action...when that is like a pause menu. Also its better with someone playing in co-op. If you play normal the AI is not exactly all that smart. You give her the sub machine gun and she fires with her pistol till she runs out and then looks for more ammo.
Yahtzee mentioned the AI being brain dead regarding the use of ammo and even more annoying regarding the healing items. Then the inventory system (ammo stacks but healing items don't) got some ragging especially when armor takes up a space so you are wearing your armor in a pocket of your armor.
Shooters suck on consoles.Get it for the pc.

Why are they running in the cutscene and like slomoing in the game?...
And they disappear into this kind of goo when they're dead on the floor...
You should try 'Left 4 Dead 2', much better.
I'm not a fanboy of any, but 'Left 4 Dead 2' has a much more impressive experience, it's quite overwhelming.
Probably not for shooter-gamers, but a more casual all-round entertainment-story-seeking gamer like yourself (I guess) would appreciate it.

Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
i saw the 2nd one and also none the others and it was good and hey if u get this game u and anetta can play! :D
Dannyfaye 2 years ago
Don't you just love those load times.
tintindwarf 2 years ago 7
We're not in the days of cartridges anymore. ALL games have some degree of load time, though some are better at minimizing them than others. That said, try Blacksite: Area 51 some time. PAINFUL load times in that one.

Zaranyzerak awesome awesome is my fav word can you tell but yeah this game is that word shhh
jasonjewell90 2 years ago
It's not really a survival horror game anymore, so much as an action shooter. Still, it's a great game, and my favorite serires. And CO-OP makes it epic.
JamesKravenwolf 2 years ago
Co-op makes it bearable, you mean. Sheva is slightly smarter than Dogmeat in F3, and he'll try and blitz a Super Mutant Behemoth.ROFL
Also, this game's fear factor is a 1 out of 10 (RE4 a 3 out of 10). Dead Space is an 7.5 out of 10, and SH2 being a 9.5 out of 10. Plus, SH2 is more psychological horror, not really many boo!! moments.
Playing RE5 without a friend is PATHETIC. I will say Sheva is a crack shot though.:)
Manufan9090 2 years ago
Do yourself a favor sean, pick this game up, you'll thank me later.
CoolXer0 2 years ago
if you played Res Evil4 the controls would be easier to pick up.
but imho, res 5 was one of the reasons i bought a ps3, and after playing the demo, i didnt buy it. really disapointed.
and when at the end, "Fear you cant forget"...well i can say i wasnt scared. i almost shit myself playing Resident Evil 1. and 2. but annoying with the new platform they could have done anything they wanted to...
and what they came up with was a weak story. boring enviroments, and f**king shiva

love these new videos bro. I can't wait to see more. I'd like to see more of the wolverine game too.
1ronoc 2 years ago
I'm having a blast with Wolverine! I'm probably not going to do much in the way of a gameplay video of it, but I'll likely do some kind of review at some point. We shall see...
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Hmm. I think by the time I'm 30 I bet they'd be up to Resident Evil 10, along with other RE games not with a number behind them.
AmericanNohbuddy 2 years ago
No harm, no foul man. We misunderstood each other I suppose. I was only stating that the control layout or button configuration is unusual on the PS3. I don't remember if you can change it or not. But anyway, that has nothing to do with the controller. If the button configuration is messed up and the options are limited then you are screwed no matter what controller you use.
Doctorb223 2 years ago
Just a tip, whenever you talk about control, you might want to specify whether or not you're talking about in-game control (Those are called game mechanics by the way) or CONTROL, which would be the controller's button layout/configuration. There is a difference.
Doctorb223 2 years ago
That's ALWAYS what I mean when I talk about control. Everyone has their own preference of controller, so I don't even go into that since it's so subjective. When I talk about controls, it's always about how well you can control the character, etc.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
you can't move while your aiming in 4 either
camgates 2 years ago
It helps if you pick up some of that glowing ammo all over the floor! LOL

RE5's controls are nothing like dead space

Game seems decent. What exactly does inverting the Y-Axis do to make things easier?
RazMansReality 2 years ago
Inverting the Y-Axis basically makes the "looking up and down" control flight-control style. So up is down and down is up. That way just feels much more natural to me, more like how we ACTUALLY look up and down.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Ahh ok makes perfect sense! BTW Z I'm back with Adam's help the full show is up! Let me know what you think if you can.
RazMansReality 2 years ago
Y-Axis controls how you look up and down. When it IS inverted, you press up to look down and vice-versa. When it's NOT inverted, you press up to look up. Some people are just more accustomed to the inverted control scheme.
Kratos87Fan19 2 years ago
Yeah I got now, thanks!

Got it sorry typo.

dude, u see the the watermeaons, shoot them and u will get something(gold or bullets or heath)
funnyclown1234 2 years ago
you toke along time to shoot the enemy . why ?
xpv007 2 years ago
It's called "conserving ammo." I wanted to make SURE every shot counted.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Sure.. that didn't happen in F.E.A.R 2, shooting at ghosts..:P
sagasky 2 years ago
True. But in THAT case I was acting out of pure, blind terror...
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Yeah, that was freaking awesome, when it is that dark in a video though it is extremely hard to see..lol
sagasky 2 years ago
Oh, I know! But that's partly the design of the game too - so you just get FLASHES of what's in front of you, keeps you disoriented and pissing your pants...lol It's like that in the actual game, not just my vid. :)
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
I watched it in the daytime..LOL
sagasky 2 years ago
You would probably be more used to the controls had u played RE4. This is just how the games are played now. I guess it takes time to get used to, but this isn't a run and gun game.
Shinjitu 2 years ago
lol i had no issues with the controls at all but doctor your a liar you probably have never played the ps3 version i heard on the xbox the controls were meant to be 10x worse than ps3 so stop lying i am not being a ps3 fanboy but your lying really you are
ps3gonnaownwiiinsale 2 years ago
this game is good not the best but good i mean i agree whit you saying the controles are flimsey.but it is good coop if you have a freind over.you should do more fear 2 vids

Btw, are you letting your hair grow out?
DrapskunstUlf 2 years ago
Nope, this was filmed a while back before I cut my hair. :)
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Give it some time and the controls become second nature. Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorite games this year it gets better as you get further into it.
ascullycom 2 years ago
I disliked this and the 4th game
ChromeGhost0219 2 years ago
It plays better on xbox 360 and I'm not saying that as a fanboy. It really does have better controls on the 360. I used to have the PS3 version and I just couldn't take it so I sold my PS3 copy and bought the xbox version. Visually they are equal but as I've already mentioned the control is smoother on 360. Cool Vid as always.
Doctorb223 2 years ago
Does it let you run and shoot in the 360 version? Didn't think so. It's not the CONTROLLER, it's the CONTROLS themselves. Controlling the characters and making them do stuff is just really awkward. for all the beauty of the graphics and sound, they really messed up with the controls. Completely ruined what could have been a lot of fun for me.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Giant axe of dooooooooooooooooooooooom, I don't see how the controls of this are like dead space.
sagasky 2 years ago
That's just it - they aren't. Dead Space let you full blown RUN while you were shooting and aiming - even backwards!
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
How did that comparison arise in the first place?
sagasky 2 years ago
I guess because they're both 3rd person action games? Who knows!
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
I just realized! The beginning of this game is exactly like RE4! You enter the village and are overwhelmed by zombies. The only thing that saves you is a intervention. In RE4, it was a church bell that got the attention of the villagers. In this game, a helicopter comes and clears out the enemies. I don't really fell compelled to get this game because it does not look all that great. Just a rehash of RE4. Thanks for the video though, I can't wait to see more!
Kratos87Fan19 2 years ago
zarany, I have a great game for you, Area 51 for the ps2, it was considered to have controls like halo, fun game it was, and yes.. horror sci fi..
sagasky 2 years ago
Got it, played it many many times, loved it. I actually talk about how awesome it was in my review of the god-awful follow-up, "Blacksite: Area 51" in the second episode of my podcast.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
Darkwatch also!!
sagasky 2 years ago
i remember when 4 came out, they said it was revolutionized resident evil or so. I don't know, I just felt like it was 3d graphics with the same control idea.. slow shooting with no running. It was more like they wanted the character to be tactical, from the police force. I like the idea of upgrading guns to fire faster..lol.
sagasky 2 years ago
u know all u got to do is sign out Z? u dont have to turn off ur internet. =P just hit triangle, while high lighting Account management.
higure8319 2 years ago
Meh, whatever, I don't need it to be connected all the time anyway. Just when I'm downloading demos or updates. I don't online game much...or at all, really.
Zaranyzerak 2 years ago
The game sucks. End of story. Bad controls, boring gameplay.
Geeoh19 2 years ago
4 had the same controls too
sagasky 2 years ago
I didn't like that game either. Though to its credit, it did play better because of the gameplay but not enough for me to buy it.
In fact most, if not all Resident Evil games have bad controls. It's just inherent to the game and it's a shame too because if there's one thing I do like, it's shooting tons of undead creatures.
Geeoh19 2 years ago
I love now they turned resident evil 5 into an action game, but decided not to allow your character to shoot and run at the same time. This mechanic worked well in number 4 but really fucks you up in this installment.
bendaman11 2 years ago
To me I felt that Resident Evil 5 was like Resident Evil 4 in many ways. I don't know a lot of it bothered me. I didn't like that the menu screen was live action...when that is like a pause menu. Also its better with someone playing in co-op. If you play normal the AI is not exactly all that smart. You give her the sub machine gun and she fires with her pistol till she runs out and then looks for more ammo.
bgcorporation 2 years ago
Yahtzee mentioned the AI being brain dead regarding the use of ammo and even more annoying regarding the healing items. Then the inventory system (ammo stacks but healing items don't) got some ragging especially when armor takes up a space so you are wearing your armor in a pocket of your armor.
