Fruit Flies are very important. McCain and Palin want to take a hatchet to the federal budget. If they are going to selectively trivialize how the money is spent, are they going to make the right decisions on what to cut?
Christopher Hitchens is NOT conservative! He is an atheist, and on the liberal side of nearly every social issue, and his support for the war is the desire to spread secular democracy and human rights abroad, whereas a true conservative cares not for democracy and human rights in other countries but is an isolationist that only cares about his own country
on top of all this Hitchens does not call himself a conservative and quickly corrects people who call him one
"Christopher Hitchens is NOT conservative! He is an atheist, and on the liberal side of nearly every social issue,..."
Why is being atheist important whether or not one is a conservative? Just because most Americans fail to distinguish between religion and politics, it doesn't mean it makes any sense.
Palin thinks the study of fruit flies is ridiculous, entirely ignorant of the fact that fruit flies are the test subject of choice for genetics. It would be like mocking a study because it involved rats as test subjects.
I think people are so used to disliking him for working for bush in the past.
McClellin was definitely as intelligent as Hitchens this year.
Even in this interview he was able to cite places where Obama was bipartisan.
I would say hes being a wise healthy supporter and as long as he thinks for himself and doesnt start with talking points for either side like Lars and that other repub is doing, i will respect him fully for it.
Anything that throws doubt on religion is fanaticism. People who doubted religions were considered heretics and killed.
Europe is breaking away from that mindset, but america is way behind in being so open minded
Also, He and Dawkins have brought forth the idea that religion should be abolished because its brainwashing. your raised from birth forced to believe this stuff.
I agree with them, but neither person actually encourages violence or hatred of religious people, just of religion itself.
well, somebody understood it as hitchens being and fraud and liked it, otherwise they wouldnt have gone negative over silents asking how hitchens is a fraud.
But definitely Hitchens is just a self thinker, and i would love to see somebody try to accuse him of being any kind of fake.
I dont even agree with Hitchens most of the time. All we have in common is atheism.
But i sure respect his views because he clearly speaks from his own thoughts, not just what he reads or hears or his party line is
But too much so, to the degree that he'll never admit to being wrong.
It's amazing that a guy who went from being a marxist to being a pro-Bush neocon has never been wrong about anything in his life, but that's Hitchens.
somebody gave you a thumbs down, so i want to defend that I agree he really believes hes right and i would love to see somebody post some place where he admits hes wrong about anything.
Considering his comment i dont think its deserving to thumb down somebody without proving them wrong.
or does the person doing the thumbing think Hitchens is simply never wrong?
I said I respect him, but he does have faults like anybody, and one may be that he has trouble admitting he can be wrong.
hope so. he deserves his own personal interview with king; instead he has to sit with those 3 poppinjays spewing talking points. McCleon is just trying to salvage his reputation. Let us not forget how inept he was as the WH press secretary. Completely useless. And now he thinks an Obama endorsement is going to save his arse. Not in my book.
What reputation. He isnt exactly deep into politics anymore is he?
What is he doing right now that he needs a reputation?
Besides, why would he care about the liberals reputation of him? Your accusation makes no sense.
In his previous role he was a shill for sure, but he was being a typical republican, and now he is representing the break up of the party. Its a good sign and good for him for not being afraid ro break apart.
He has clearly paid a price for it, and i will not deride him for it.
These clowns are arguing that the economy is somehow mutually exclusive from the education of young people in America. News flash, if the kids of this generation are brought up to believe that a magic invisible man in the sky created humans a few thousand years ago on a non-changing planet surrounded by ice that fell from the sky, you can kiss the economy goodbye and your super-power goodbye. Is Hitchens the only one who sees this? For the sake of America, I hope not.

He never claimed that his liberalism and conservatism stemmed from his atheism (although, they are related). He was just stating a fact.

Hitchens adopts no ideology. He's simply an indepent with no liberal or conservate precepts.

Christopher Hitchens is incredibly hateful, but somehow incredibly charming at the same time. He's one of my new favorite pundits.

he's the British male version on Ann Coulter but he's intelligent

"Not funny Lars," good for you, Larry.
Hitchens appears to be the final bastion of intellectual honesty and rationalism left appearing on these shows.

Atheistic fanaticism?
Is it fanaticism to point out the idiocy of one's point of view?
Dinosaurs and man coexisted.
The earth is only 6 thousand years old.
These are no the positions of rational people in the 21st century.

I agree, the only people promoting hatreds in the world are the religions.
Muslims hate jews and christians, and in turn jews and christians promote the hatred and demonization of their opposing faiths.
These three faiths all rely upon a coming apocalypse as an instrument to bring forth the messiahs of their respective faiths.
They see the clash of civilizations as an inevitibility and necessity to fullfill the promises in their respective religious texts.

Hitchens is a rising star amongst American Political commentating. Am i the only one who thinks he always stand out amongst frauds?
