Norm MacDonald isn't Scottish. He's Canadian which explains two things 1) Why he's such a smarmy asshole and 2) why I don't like him. As an American whose grandparents actually hail from Scotland, I find it more than a wee bit amusing that Norm is the on SNL cast member who was EVER given the boot by Lorne Michaels because he "Just wasn't funny".
I hate scottish accents. They sound like aliens. I can't stand their look but I found a few handsomes ones: Sean Connery, Magnum P.I (can't remember his real name) and Norm MacDonald (when he's younger) Otherwise they're not attractive. Don't mean to offend but I'm glad they don't have their accents. Oh yeah, the woman that plays on "No Country For Old Men" (the wife) accent is yucky.
Firstly i just want to point out... The difference between a Kilt and a Skirt is that you don't wear underwear under a Kilt. Scottish people only wear Kilts on special ocassions like Weddings. This idiot obviously has no idea what it means to be Scottish if he talks about it this way. We are one of the oldest nations on Earth and we certainly don't give a FUCK if people laugh at us. Come here and say these things Norm you fucking Dickhead !
@glasgow1234 Norm Macdonald knows all of that. Its called humor. Might want to give that a try sometime and lighten up. Also no one takes Scotland seriously because you're apart of the United Kingdom. Grow a pair and get rid of those brits like Ireland did.
@rbh1138 You think it's humour to insult an entire country and it's people, traditions, history??? Oh haha, look at me laughing ! Scottish people know what humour is... look at Billy Connolly, the greatest comedian that ever lived... you don't see him insulting people do you? And we are more than half way to leaving the UK as you probably already know ;)
@glasgow1234 You take your self and your country too seriously. How could you ever laugh at others without any malice if you can't laugh at yourself? I picture Scots to be a fun loving people who enjoy ribbing their friends, but it seems there's at least one who is too uptight.
Scotland has reason to be proud, but if you just define yourself by your unique cuisine, traditional garbs, and caber tossing, then I think you are selling yourself short.
@glasgow1234 If you don't know who he is, you live under a rock. If you think anyone's above getting their balls broken, then you're well on your way to starting/joining a cult. If a country wants to be taken seriously, then they first need to be even the slightest bit relevant to the political world.
@Wulfiebaby I have no idea who he is and probably most people in Scotland, UK and even Europe wouldn't either.... He might be famous wherever you are from but he is unheard of here. And your second point is very relevant as the scottish people will soon be voting for their independence and if they vote yes they will be very relevant as we will be the newest member of the United Nations :)
@glasgow1234 Norm Macdonald is an incredibly funny Canadian comedian (I know, it sounds spurious, but every generation births a handful of funny people in Canada). If you "don't give a FUCK if people laugh" at you, why are you getting so upset over Norm's comments?
And you still won't be relevant. You have no political weight or any industry that the world cares about. The UN will pretend to listen to you for a while to assuage their white guilt, then put you in a dark corner.
@Wulfiebaby Insulting a whole nation and it's culture is hardly comedy in my view. And the reason i gave a fuck is because he has Scottish roots. That to me is just sad.... Insulting your own culture and history... Can a person get anymore low?
I think to your country we will be relevant as we will become Europe's biggest Oil producer and will be the 6th richest country IN THE WORLD! We all know how the USA takes an enermous interest in oil rich countries.
@glasgow1234 Norm has no Scottish roots. He has Scottish forefathers to whom he owes nothing. His culture is that of a hardcore comedian, which thankfully has nothing to do with bullshit lines like national boundaries. And yeah, just about everything a person can do is lower than making fun of a culture. Again, if you think your culture is above ballbusting, you take yourself too seriously, which ironically gets you less respect than learning to laugh at yourself.
@glasgow1234 As far as I understand (and I am by no means an expert), your oil will be mostly gone in about 10 years. No reason to make a long-term relationship with you. In fact, I'd be a little surprised if we didn't engineer a war with Scotland for some cheap oil. You will never be relevant insofar as the world respects you. We'll use you.
And you're never going to be #6 worldwide, but I got a hearty laugh reading it.
Last, don't make yourself such a juicy piece of trollbait.
@Wulfiebaby Haha you were right when you said you were no means an expert, Scottish Oil will last for another 40 years. Scotland is also one of the windiest countries in Europe and we have Wind Farms popping up literately everywhere giving us about 60% of Europe's Wind Farms and also 25% of Europeon tidal power making us World leaders in Green energy. We will be one of the richest countries in the world through GNI per capita as we have such small population of around 5.8m
@glasgow1234 And stop being such juicy trollbait. You're going to end up as a meme on 4chan. Anyhow, have the last word and stop being such a stereotypical Scot, huffing and puffing about a lot of nothing.
Why would anyone care about what an american thinks of another culture/land/country/nation? If it wasnt for Scotland and Ireland and England, there would be no USA. So fuck Norm.
@Zidean007 hes from canada old nova scotia. hes right about us being drunk, retarded's pretty harsh as is the dismissive shortbread tin perspective, cant bring my self to say fuck norm though, dudes allright
@Zidean007@glasgow1234 There's some Canadians super uptight about nationality and politics, but those who aren't are pretty relaxed and can take a crack at the absurdity of our own nation, so we don't mean anything by it when we do it to others. Norm is definitely in the latter camp.
He has made jokes about Canada in interviews, and chose to read about the Campbells and MacDonalds in a Youtube video before, so don't take it too seriously.
