we let us share our knowledge on the arts spirituesl as the tattoo for example and we create works in relation. Bye for now!!

  • samoan tatau is the best. It's too common now getting the tattoo sleeve, even the tongan do it. I respect the tatau, i don't have any coz it shud be were it was made to be. Now everywun jz wana do the pea on their hand jz to show they samoan.

  • too bad your pe'a is not where it's supposed to be. i know i'm biased but i think the men's traditional tattoo is still the most beautiful and sexy icon of our culture. let's hope the next generation honors it.

  • maori means FREADOM

  • tino ataahua. ouch.

  • Hello,

    I have a question.

I'm going to take a maori tattoo and someone from youtube made me one and he told me what everything means but i want to be sure or it is right.

Does does anybody noes the meaning of a maori tattoo?

Can i send you the design that someone made for me and can somebody tell me what it means?

or otherwise do you no somebody else that understand the meaning:

    Greetz,

    Ricardo Toonen

  • @MindMixDanceCenter tread carefully..alot of things have bad meanings...bad mana..make sure you get points and triangles pointed a certain way.

  • its not a sleeve..its a tatau but its on his arm..

  • @kAlIfAlEpOlOgA Dude 'murealz' knows its obviously not a sleeve in a clothing sense, it's just that tattoos that take the whole arm are called "sleeves"... ^^

  • samoans are a cross between black, white, and asian? hahaha.... you forgot hispanic as well. your personal opinions should never be spoken as fact.

  • yeah, but u aint no chief, so quit trippin

  • Thats bad ass.I hope wheb Im done with my sleeve it looks half as good as this one

  • This ain't no Samoan tattoo. We never had this kind of tattoo on our arms, chest, and shoulders. It was all around the thighs, buttocks, lower back, etc. Well, if it was on the arm, it was a taulima, but nothing like what is shown on this vid. Any real Samoan would agree with me.

  • @theephraimite Thats why its description reads 'Samoan Contemporary' - get with it mate!

  • I simply love these Samoan ,Polynesian, and Pacific Islander tattoos. I'm really thinking about getting me a Polynesian tattoo sleeve.

  • @SuperWarpath Polynesian and Pacific Islanders are the same thing fucktard!

  • Hey guys total repect to you and your culture .

I love the tattoo, i know the different markings have spirtual meanings and not just some abstact lines on the body ,to me this is the beautiful thing about these kinds of tattoo ,but yeah love the work here .

  • I mean just look at indigenous Taiwanese culture, Dance, language, customs ,even looks. It is haunting how close we seem. I just dont see the negativity in that ay. Its actually a beautiful thing.

  • exactly, and I have no problem with accepting that, but when someone like justike rudely marginalizes and stigmatizes our people in numerous video threads, just makes me angry. I know everyone has an opinion and free speech, but even when given that right its no need to be arrogant and rude about a culture, especially if you don't even come from that background. He said that the Eurocentric word 'Polynesian' is a misnomer placed on us, but the term Austronesian would be the same in retro-spect.

  • Strait up I am a proud P.I and always will be. I have always been fascinated by lineage and cultural blood lines, and the research and studies done suggesting our ancestors possibly come from south east Asia, (indigenous Taiwan to be exact) is honestly quite interesting. Just because we might have migrated from Asia does not take away from the fact we are Polynesian and PROUD. I think some of us need to stop being one eyed about it and be a bit more open minded.

  • i dont give a fuck what bookz say...as a samoan i refuse to let anyone other than my elders tell me where i belong and who i come from....austronesian my ass...u can be boxed in and catagorised by a palagiz definition...find someone else to label

  • Yeah...face it, it's the truth and the whole world knows it. You're an Austronesian. Be loud and proud about it, not ashamed of it.

  • but why do we have to acknowledge other people within our group? Its not like they acknowledge our existence. We acknowledge the place we are from and brought up in. Im sure a Filipino person would not walk around yelling austronesian pride. We acknowledge our Polynesian pride because we share the same culture, history, customs and our languages are nearly the same. This cannot be said for those who are cousins.

  • Yes cut da fuckin link coz our similarities are out numbered by our differences...

WE ARE NOT FROM SOUTH EAST ASIA....

even if we were thank god our ancestors had the sense to LEAVE.... I just refuse to accept a label placed on me by some european who definately did not consider our opinion when defining who the fuck is an austronesian......i accept that we were once one people within polynesia that is why our people continued to travel from island to island never venturing "back" to sea...

  • @jusitke07 you are just ignorant why are we even bothering with you, Im samoan and im damn proud of my culture and my history take your austronesian somewhere else

  • @soundfreak5488 I'm a Pacific Islander myself, an educated one too. But do enlighten me as to where do you think the people came from to inhabit the islands known today as Samoa, and American Samoa?

  • awoi why the grim reaction lol, let him think what he wants to think, hehe. I just find it amsuing that a lot of Polynesian videos I have been on he seems to chuck in the term "Austronesian" lmao, even on an old traditional Samoan song hehehe, maybe he is just obsessed with our people which to me is a compliment to our beautiful people,

i mean can you blame people for wanting to claim our heritage hehehe, just let him say what he wants at the end of the day we stil gon' be poly!! poly 4 lyf!lol

  • I agree, you are allowed free speech, but you keep marginalizing our people. You keep saying AUSTRONESIAN, forgetting that although we belong to this group we have our own culture and customs which make us uniquely different to our cousins. We acknowledge the connection with our ancestral cousins but why can't you allow us to have our own sense of identity? Our culture, customs, language is different to our cousins, and thats what make us uniquely Polynesian. Is that too much to ask?

  • Wow... its like a slap in the face. This person has no manners and disrespects our culture. We definitely didn't come from your side of the boat. Its one thing to marginalize our people but its another to claim that another group of people made it. I laugh because people can say that we are this and that but we are the only people who can truly say what we are, because we are living proof of it. You are only trying to say we come from your people because you are shamed of your own culture... sad

  • Ashamed of my own culture....have you any idea or details where I'm from? I'm sorry, but have we met in person?

  • I never said I knew where you were from, but from what I gather, you can't even acknowledge your own people without trying to tell us Polys where we are from. Seriously, I understand we are Austronesian, but how is that relevant to our culture? Not all Austronesian people are involved in the cultured that has developed among the Polynesian people. Its like telling a Filipino that Chinese people formed their culture or an italian person that an Arab formed theirs. Its rude and disrespectful

  • This is not the first encounter I have had with a Filipino person trying to hold ties only polynesian people. FIrst off, what gives you the right to try and claim customs that are from another culture, second, just because you might be ashamed of your own doesn't give you the right to claim another. I'm not againt any of our cousins, im just disappointed that they are trying to marginalize us as if we have no culture. I feel like they're saying "if it wasnt for us, you wouldn't exist"... so rude

  • Language is the core of any culture. And taking a look at the linguistic similarities of Austronesians:

Like the word "TATTOO" which the Europeans adopted into their language when Capt. Cook witnessed the Tahitians scaring clients:

    Tagalog: TATAK (scratch or etch)

    Chamorro: TAITAI (pain)

    Samoan: TATAU

    Tahitian: TATU

Or how about the infamous number 5 which is the same in every Austronesian land....LIMA, which means hand in Tagalog, Visayan, Bahasa Indonesian, Tetun, Samoan, etc.

  • You are being so rude. I understand the connection but I feel as if you are trying to claim our culture as something that was formed by people from the Phillipines. Leave our culture alone. Yes we share similarities and genetic connections but its distant. Hell, we share connections with every other race on this planet but like I said its distant. I don't understand why people are trying to take credit for another ethnic groups customs just because they are related. Its ignorant and rude.

  • Look, I'm Austronesian from the Pac Isles, and I'm not trying to be rude or anything like but I'm simply responding to your mis-informed ideals. Polynesians, Micronesians, Indonesians, The Phillippine Islands, Madagascar, all share a common history, language, and culture. Proven by mitochondrial DNA testing, archaelogical evidence, and most of all Linguistic similarities. I mean my goodness, do your research on tattoos from the Philippines and look at how similar it is to Samoa & Tonga. Go ahead

  • but thats not my point! you're not understand what makes us uniquely Polynesian, you are just talking about the wider-based group. Like I said, YES we are Austronesian, but what makes us different to other ethnic groups with the Austronesian group is our culture, language and customs and genetics. I'm not going to deny the connection because its right in front of me, but we are not the same people. We are definitely related but its distant. We are our own people and we have our own culture.

  • "YES we are Austronesian"

Good. At least you acknowledge the general fact...I'll leave it at that. Cheers.

  • @jusitke07 whats this we business ...correction pal ....YOU are astronesian.... i'm Polynesian from a Pacific Island that is situated within the borders of the Polynesian Triangle. Your sending the wrong message science of today is mostly propaganda. So you go piss in the wind and tell yourself its raining, Don't go spreading garbage thats been drummed up by fuck knows who?

  • @BigKrash Polynesian, Micronesian, Indonesian...those are all European terms which are misnomers. The fact that all can be linked together scientifically by DNA Mitochondrial links, Linguistic similarities, and archaeological evidence...makes you and the rest of those in Indonesia, Micronesia, Polynesia, Philppines, and Madagascar...Austronesians.

  • @jusitke07 the Science you use to conjure up all this bullshit is EUROPEAN, the astrobullshit garbage you trying to spread is EUROPEAN or is there a difference because your a learned fillipino who has been educated in a EUROPEAN university with all the text books you read EUROPEAN. So fuck off with your bullshit all Polynesian traditions and customs are POLYNESIAN we stand as an exclusive group that you are not part of. GET LOST hypocrite..

  • @BigKrash DNA Mitochondrial testing is Bullshit? Really? So what your thoughts of the linguistic similarities?

Like in Bahasa Indonesia Five or Hand is LIMA. Which is the same for most of the dialects throughout the Philippines. Or like TATAK in Tagalog means to etch in or scratch in...which is very similar to TATAU in Samoan. In Bahasa Indonesia, API means FIRE. So do you know how they say FIRE in Samoan?

  • @jusitke07 Tatau in Samoan is not etch or scratch its "ma'osi'osia" lmao...and afi for fire? ...LOL is that it? after all your studies and research this is the proof you have? one word? Lima? LMFAO raise yr hand and slap yrself chief & whatever degree you have dude take it off the wall use it for toilet paper. reading obscure passages from some archaeologist whom build there theories from fuck knows what and are never questioned ain't enough to convince me, you crazy man, check your own history

  • @BigKrash Sorry I should've mentioned that TATAK means to scratch or etch into....the skin. Oh there more in linguistic similarities. You want to see them?

Not to mention the flower behind the ears which is a cultural habit in Indonesian to appease ATUHAN...which means God, or the gods. Sounds similar to Atua doesn't it?

  • @jusitke07... bro... this conversation is redundant, you believe what u want, there is not enough substance in what you have stated to get me thinking otherwise, its all theoretical no hard evidence, ...you got a time machine? all the best and good luck with your astro-crusade.

  • @BigKrash Hey, do your research, because you're falling behind on the world of the Educated. Ask any professionals from any accredited university from any where in the world and they'll tell you. Shoot, even university-educated Samoans knows about Austronesians. Helllo.

  • @jusitke07 Dude..really? you talk about DNA and Mitochondrial links WTF???Then you would know that all polyenesians share one common trait originating from the people from Samoa and can't be traced or linked to any other people on the planet. How old is your research, or should I say theories! Do some real research before posting some bullshit you heard in some BS classroom.

  • @motaz01 Yeah, I'll keep talking about DNA and Mitochondrial links. So what you got? And where do you think Samoans come from? And don't give me that Maui-demigod bullshit, because the Almighty knows the Truth.

  • and yes of course we are Austronesians, I'm not going to deny that. But not all Austronesians can take credit for traditional Polynesian tattoos. Thats why I stress the fact that this is uniquely Polynesian, not any other Austronesian group. They have their own traditional tattoos which are different to ours. Also i don't see how all Austronesian people should be credited in a video specifically about Polynesian tattoos. Like I said before Polynesians are Polynesians, end of story

  • honestly, I don't mind people coming up on here and showing appreciation and love towards us Polys, but we don't need people to try and take credit for our culture. Please! its our culture, not yours and you dont have any right to try and tell us that just because we are part of some wider group (that so called arachaelogist claim) that it becomes part of yours. I understand the connections we have with other people, but its Polynesian history not austronesian. Please understand the difference!!

  • This is the truth:

  • Muuy buenoo

    Saludos desde Argentina =)

  • nice

  • correct me if im wrong but isnt that supposed to go around the body?

  • well back in the days it used to be at your thighs all the way up to waist and it was only used to identify a Samoan Chief.

  • yeah, its ryt dat da tatau ws from da waist down but it wasn't only to identify a Samoan Chief. Bck den prior 2 da arrival of da missionaries, men were tataued and ws perceived as a substitute for clothes. Da tatau was dur form of clothing, wea da blue/black ink made it appear 2 be really tyt (lol) shorts:D:D But the year of da missionaries (1830) in Samoa, dey sought dis 2 be sum what 'ungodly' lyk many other traditions we used 2 hold e.g poula, how the taupos dress etc

  • Like a few have explained already, the pe'a, which you're talking about is from the waist down. Today many just use patterns that have been derived from the traditional tatau and place it either as a complete sleeve, half arm sleeve, around the wrist or ankle as a band and whatever else. Even though not traditional, it can still be recognised by many of the tradition in which the person originates.

  • This is What we Cool a real Tattoo.
