im intrigued in using them live or with writing original material, have you used them in any way like that?

I used the Buddha Machine 1 for a live gig once, but only at the very end, as a kind of afterglow after I faded down the mixer. There are some interesting potential live applications; I believe FM3 circuit bends them when they perform live.
