wouldn't it make more sense to connect a whined up clock mechanism to a generator then you can have it inside during the winter and simply wind it up once a day for electricity those grandfather clocks keep accurate time, they turn nonstop for about 24 hours, i've never seen anyone connect a whind up mechanism to produce electricity. just those stupid hand crank ones you have to constantly crank.
hello gotwind, Can I ask you something? How does one know how many times to wind a stator coil and with what gauge? Everyone seems to make videos on how to make them without even explaining the fundamentals. Some guys even wind with 2 or 3 strands at once yet never explain why they do it. It is frustrating to not understanding this concept.
gotwind2, would there be any cogging, if the stator was built this way to put out about 5-10 amps at low RPM's, say about 200rpm ? I'm trying to understand more about the relationship between amp draw & rpm's. to the cogging affect. before I build my own. thanks again
So cogging only occurs when there is magnetic material in the stator? Is that true, or does it only reduce cogging when there is no magnetic material in the stator?
It is a little complicated and involves things like the wave tip ratio and comparisons with an acutator model to compare effeciency. If you are still curious google HAWT fundamentals. Something will come up.
Hey, any way to calculate how much power a small turbine with a one 6 inch diameter and a small DC motor will produce? I'm guessing around 1/2W. Am I even close?
How do you keep your resin-cast stator stationary? Do you feel your bearing selection is adequate to handle severe gyroscopic loads when a wind rotor shifts directions?
Interesting project.Basically something pushing 5 amperes would be ideal and due to the cost of magnets etc would be more feasible! Very good attempt.I thought looking at it would push around 3-5 amp.

Would anyone here know how Long (aprox.) would take to charge a 12V, 50amp/hr battery with this 25W alternator ?.
vid009 2 years ago
25w/12v = 2 amps (ish)
50Ah/2A = 25 hours from flat.
You don't really want to run batteries flat, 50 % discharge max ideally for lead acid batteries.

F.Y.I., amps are drawn, not pushed. Alternators generate current.

alternators generate a voltage

looking at the multi meter I would say its reading in volts not amps
