The Flyers were the first team in history to get away with their garbage by the NHL the same way the NHL is allowing the Bruins to get away with their garbage today. NHL stopped being real hockey after 1970 and started becoming a bush league garbage joke farce since the 1970s.
emile francis had every right to look pissed,,,too bad the rangers didnt have Nick Fotiu in the lineup. He.d take care of the broadstreett bullies all by himself,,
@hallauthor He only played 6 years in the NHL how could he be? From 1970-1975 Villemure was better, I'll give you from 1965-1970 but when they played together, Villemure was better.
@buffalobraves9 Statistically and in the eyes of the NY staff, you are incorrect. In the years you cited, Giacomin played significantly more games, played against the tougher teams on a regular basis, and got nearly all of the significant playoff assignments. Villemure was a solid partner and competant back up. You stated he "was better anyway." By no measure is that true.
@buffalobraves9 A Hall of Fame career is the norm; a one-time struggle where Villemure stepped in was NOT the norm. Villemure was good...not great, which is why one of them is enshrined and the other is fondly remembered, but never played at the same level as consistently, as long, or as often.
Classic Ranger team from the 70's. One of their players gets hammered, they look away and pretend not to notice. Any other team, LIKE THE ISLANDERS would have started a war over this and kicked some Flyer hiney.
@teddysalad65 yeah, yeah, yeah....and just how good have those islanders been since the early 80's? thats alot of shit talking, considering The Flyers have won 17 of their last 18 meetings with the Islanders and have a 116-85-26-4 advantage in 231 regular-season games. nah, the isles wouldnt have done shit.
I always loved Ed Giacomin but it's pretty clear he took a dive there and it wasn't the only time he ever did it. I don't remember this particular game but I hope it got the Rangers a win.
Actually, Curt Bennett kicked the fucking daylights outta Flett during a Flames-Flyers brawl. It's on YouTube somewhere. He made The Cowboy look stupid.
There's a seven-minute version of the Flames-Flyers melee in Atlanta here on YouTube. Bennett and Flett receive game misconducts and Dave Schultz of the Flyers gets penalized for a cheap shot on one of the Flames players (I think it was Jack Stewart) after both benches emptied.
Dr. James Nicholas was also the longtime team physician for the New York Jets.

@hallauthor Like in the '72 playoffs when the Rangers turned to Villemure when Giacomin sucked.

Tim Ryan was a good hockey broadcaster. Better than that Mike Emrick, that guy sounds like he has noballs.

Eddie is embellishing here unless he hit the back of his head on the ice. But he looks to be hamming it up here to me.
