I will defend IT but We Cant Dance was pure and utter shit and Ray Wilson should be shot. His version of Home By The Sea almost made me cry cause it was then I knew Genesis was DEAD
@MrNotNiceGuy You dont have to think that way dude! Genesis is not what you like and what you feel only, but what the group themselves like and feel. They wanted (and felt like) doing different thing along the years. As fans, we always have to support them, not critize them because they dont do what we are expecting.
I had this version on Bootleg Vinyl back in the 80's and in the last part(instrumental)when Rutherford plays the MOOG Taurus Bass Pedals my home would SHAKE!!
There'll never be a band like Genesis. Pure Power in their music and people will be listening to the genius of Genesis long after we're all gone.
@Imperial7Progtasian which one are you exactly referring to? Verses are 4/4 with an added 1/4 at turnarounds, pre-choruses and choruses are in 3/4 (half feel) - all remaining parts including the instrumental are in 4/4 (with an occasional 2/4 inserted to match melodic rhythm), outro (snare drum pattern) is also in 4/4. Hope this helps
@Imperial7Progtasian Well I know it has been quite a while. I just revisited this vid. I would love to write it out for you, or explain it. The tricky thing is, that the sub-divisions are different and in places eighth notes become triplets maintaining the tempo of the eighth notes (meaning quarter notes change tempo accordingly - so notation is rather cumbersome, but perfectly possible - I do that stuff for a living). BTW: I'm recording some Gensis instrumentals at the moment for fun.
@salmacis81 - very enveloping back and forth heavy acoustic bass thrusts especially being there to feel it live in an arena with the right sound affects. Firth of Fifth, Dance on a Volcano...
Can't remember what I said but I apologise for mistaking All in a Mouse's Night. You are soooo... right it is from Wind and Wuthering. I have ME and my memory gets very confused. I appreciate you putting me right on this issue a I adore keeping up to date with the things that I love. Keep the faith and thank you again.
It's just wonderful to listen to this version live from that era, it doesn't matter how it sounds, it's simply unique and original, but I stopped dreaming of a Genesis reunion with Steve and Pete, so I'll just enjoy and enjoy these beatiful tunes when Genesis was GENESIS !!
GENESIS IS GENESIS.... or you think that Peter and Hackett made alone the music and the lyrics...you are so wrong, and many fans will always love GENESIS without Peter and more without Hackett, sorry for them ,,,but I m happy that Genesis had continue being a band, like it or not.. I love GENESIS and that is for ever...
Yeah, many fans will always love Genesis without Peter and Steve, you're right, but many fans will always like GENESIS with Steve and Pete too, and more fans love Genesis because Steve was there, and connoisseurs know that the Genesis trio became the Phil Collins band, and Calling All Stations and the total collapse of the band finally proved that, otherwise tell me something new...
the news is that genesis was not the "phil collins band", he was just the face and voice of genesis, and of course the best frummer on the damn planet, but the music came to 90 percent from tony banks and rutherford,-
and besides that ray wilson had a boring, drousy singing, calling all stations was ten times better than we can´t dance and, in my opinion, even invisible touch -
this your comment is older i know, but in genesis issues 7 month is a blink of an eye)
@MoveOverCasanova Thanks for your comments, unfortunately the facts are there, and History has been written that way, Tony and Mike couldn't reinvent Genesis after the failure of CAS, it's not Ray's fault, it was the lack of musicianship of the two of them, if they had been that 90% of the Genesis music they would've come up with something good and strong even with CAS and afterwards, regarding the Phil Collins band that's what WE old fans call it during the 80's and early 90's and it's obvious.
you´re right and there is nothing much to add, maybe just one interesting comment from chester thompson you may know, that goes "after "invisible touch", genesis were the act one had to see when he/she wanted to be hip - and that takes a bit of the concert magic away" -
meaning that a little less sudden appreciation from the audience is not principally a sign of weakness - but it was just time for genesis to rest, whoever was the master and the mind...
Unfortunately only bootlegs and non-official releases (early 1977 tour)contain this great version. Try the Genesis-Trade Yahoo group, it's great!. It is 100% legal and it has the support of all Genesis members.
One of the Master pieces mixing old genesis cords and story telling. I wonder why this song got somewhat forgotten during their latest concerts...Please listen carefully to this song and you will fully know what I mean.
This is awesome - thanks. From my favorite Genesis record. This version sounds so eerie. I love the old Taurus Pedals and Mellotron in the beginning. Hackett RULES at the end! He does a lot of stuff in this song you can't hear on the studio version. Maybe Tony was being ANAL and mixed it out? hmmm....
people, if your preference is 70s Genesis then msg me about Genesis, Six Hours Live 1972-1980 2-DVD set. This is the live DVD set that SHOULD be out there (actually it is now, lol) Unfortunately for the old-timers only the 80s stuff is commercially available on video. New fans should check out this DVD set too
How on Earth do you get hold of all this cool rare stuff? I had no idea they even ever played this track live and here it is. Good stuff Glickton, am loving the rare material! I'll be super impressed if you can find "Evidence of Autumn", "You Might Recall" or "Blood on the Rooftops" live. (I'm already very impressed, don't worry!) lol.
Well my Spanish is a little rusty (I live in Portugal for 22 years). Here is my best shot at a literal translation:
This song from the record is one of the best of the record. Truth is that it is excellent. I doubt the people who say that Phil meant the end of Genesis.
The guitar solo from this is sort of religious for me. Chills. Every time.

If you'd like to hear the music in stereo, just add "&fmt=18" (without the quotes) to the end of the URL.
