Wildufo has got it completely wrong. Given the choice between earning a decent salary working in a lab with people I like and respect or earning loads more where most of the other people are thick and stroppy, give me the lab.
On average, you spend about 1700 hours per year at work. You need to enjoy yourself whilst you're there or you'll lose your mind. (Assuming you have a mind!)
In fact, that's a choice I had and took the lab job. I had the best five years of my working life there.
