To the vietnam vet: I was eight years old when I saw you heading off to war in 68, I wonder would you do it again? did you think it was a mistake? Know this... that my child heart was there with you thru the sorrow and the pain and that your struggle was never in vain. I ask myself, some years down the road, is it enough to assume and believe everythings ok? Does not believing in a thing bring it into being? Yes it does and so it will be. amen.
the US did not loose the vietnam war.because they never officaily delcared war on N vietnam in the first place, when they signed the peace accord in 73 the south was still fighting the north-until 75 .the US pulled out to let the south fend for itself which it could not.
I don't think so. it's not a game. American wanted to stop the trend of communist in the world (you can read about DOMINO effect). And they wanted to prove obvious things : they can protect and save all their allies,... and Vietnam just prove them that: people is more important than everything, only willing can help us do everything seem impossible..
@CHJ49 Nope, I have studied the history of the region quite extensively, starting from the beginning of the French occupation in the mid 19th century. Even McNamara admitted that it our involvement there was WRONG.
@austinsaxmansteve I don't agree with your statement but I respect your perspective on the conflict. Vietnamese on both sides of the DMZ considered Vietnam to be one country temporarily divided. The U.S. intentions were clearly not the same as the French. The French as you know wanted to regain control of their former colony.
@cfeicht23 If you had studied any history at all, you would know that Ho's original intent (circa 1920) was to form a U.S.- style democracy. He petitioned the U.S. delegates at Versailles to get the French to leave Vietnam, but they wouldn't see him. Quite ironic - we forced him into the communist camp by supporting French oppression there in Vietnam.
@austinsaxmansteve you are spot on mate .Ho chi minh just wanted freeedom for vietnam. to free the vietnamese people from slavery from the Chinese and french. America refuse to help so he had to turn to the chinese and russians
@hanvo216 thank you and i just cant believe there is a person like you out there that can think on his feet . Not a lot of people even the Overseas vietnamese realize the fact that Ho Chi Minh wanted to side with America and adopt its style of democracy and wanted to apply it for Vietnam.
And when there WERE elections, the US-backed Sout Vietnanese "democratic" (what a joke) government cancelled them and refused to let them go ahead because it was clear that Ho Chi Minh's group would win the vast support and be elected.
@BabyBBB01 The U.S. didn't lose the war the Paris Accords were signed in 1973. The U.S. left there was a South and a North. The U.S. Democratic Congress cut aid to the south. The aid went from billions of dollars to 500 million. They also restricted the authority of President Ford on the use of force. I know that you no this information. You should know that the democrats have no will to fight. They are like the Italian Army in WW2. They are good a gangster tactics.
@CHJ49 .............if the the U.S.A didn't lose the vietnam war so why U.S.A has left the South Vietnam back to the united states????? OF COURSE THE U.S.A HAS LOST THE VIETNAM WAR

@BabyBBB01 The US signed the Paris Accords in 1973. The US military involvement was over. For your information President Nixon did not play around like LBJ. He implemented about 90% of the bombing campaign and other tactics that Curtis La May proposed back in the early sixties. The North was refusing to talk to the US. The result the North was faced with the imminent destruction of their economy and war making capability. They came back to the table.
Nope. HTe North came back to the table when the new US offer was an almost 1:1 copy of an earlier North Vietnamese offer that had then been refused by the US.
. . . DOWN WITH THE AMERICAN IMPERIALIST INVADERS. . . CAPITALIST PIGS. . . THEY HAVE COMMITED UNTOLD CRIMES. . .

How communists destroyed their own history. Hue's destruction is North's fault.

@austinsaxmansteve Ask the brave South Vietnamese people who stood up to the communist. Most likely you base all your information on Hollywood films.
