  • anyone with no music knoledge sees this as random and bad but any musician knows this is extreme. more talent than any of you hating butt fucks have.

  • not a metal fan but this stuff isnt so bad if you listen to the studio stuff... they suck live tho, trying to do to much

  • I'm sorry, this is just terrible. in my OPINION

  • Can't hear shit captain!

  • This is pushing the edge of songwriting and you are too fucking stupid to realize it. This is Captain Beefheart of our generation.

No writing ability? Fuck your mother. How's that for writing ability?

Skip practice/Random? Sounds exactly like the album so shut the fuck up.

Sounds like shit? Go listen to whatever AIDS-infested cuntsauce you like and get the fuck out of here while I jam to this righteous mindfuck.

  • variation on roids. 2:31, sweet nip nips.

  • SSAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

    ............This is terrible.

  • Actually when they skip practice... they play better o_0

  • I see all these people only giving credit to their talent without fighting the argument that it doesn't sound good. When you get to know each song really well you get a sense of the song as a whole and see how it's just perfect. I find that every time I listen to it I understand each part more and it really just grows on you... it's an acquired taste. I started out with Skullgrid which I think might be a little more accessible than the EP that this video's song is on though. Try "Canada".

  • this is an acquired taste, espacially because they dont stick to what most think of as song stucture. guess thats why they call it expressive

  • Alright I'll say it since no one else is. I bet these dudes are the clit masters

  • All skill.

    No writing ability...

  • you wanna see some dudes that can totally play that stuff and more. check out ronald bruner Jr on drums. Hasan Cihat ÖRTER oh guitar. oh as for the war guitar i got nothing. eh not really a fan of it. but hey your not me and thats the beauty of it.

  • I love BTA... I love this song... but the sound quality for this video fucking SUCKS ASS

  • @Proggish Agreed...probably why so many people are calling them crap when they haven't had any prior experience listening to them.

  • The bass player uses something called a "Warr Guitar".

  • This EP is worth way beyond the 7 dollars I paid for it.

  • This one sounds like a wasp nest that's been thrown into a garbage can and then kicked down a flight of stairs.

  • @MoarBullshit Maybe.. if the wasps had instruments and their nest was kicked down THE STAIRS OF METAL \m/

  • @MoarBullshit ive actually heard a wasps nest in a garbage can throw down stairs.. not once did i hear a single hit that sounded like a drum kit or anything that sounded like guitar or warr guitar.. maybe you should see a doctor, you either have bad hearing or are an uneducated moron.. which doesnt surprise me the way things are nowadays.. go listen to lil wayne you douche

  • @MoarBullshit lol cool. =) i thought it was funny.

  • ....hmmm i remember the first time i played drums too

  • no ending!?!? thats the best part

  • mmmm tats just new level of musicccccccc

  • sounds like dillingar

  • @mermaider25 not even close

  • All I have to say is if you don't like this, Justin Beiber might be a little more up your alley. Some people wouldn't know talent if it punched them in the face.

  • i wish theyd play the outro live :(

  • theres something i like about this song , it may not be the most beutifull music out there , but this song feels very experimental and it makes it feel unic in its way it is with its detuned parts and bizzare parts ,i dont know, i kinda like the way this song is structured. thumbs up!

  • happy

  • well you see they suck so in scientific form of words its bad

  • Look at the drummer rock out XD at 0:22 haha

  • its funny how intense they start

How many people were in the show in Baltimore 2003?

ahh this is our first apparance in baltimore everybody!

then they look at each other

then BAM just start like crazy

    its crazy

  • this guys are insane.

  • yeah they are talented on the instruments but they are not very good musicians, to be a good musician your music needs to be bareable! i actualy put there videos on my phone because when im stoned its just plain hillarious!!!!!!!

  • @jakoy600 Apparently it is bearable because they do have some fans. You have to at least give them credit for that clean section at 2:30

  • if this was the only type of music in the world i would probably kill myself.

if this kind of music didnt exist i might also try and kill myself.

  • obvious troll is obvious.

  • just kidding by the way, behold the arctopus is fucking awesome.

  • listen to these guys when you cut the lawn! your brain just soaks it up like a spunge lol. favorite band!!

  • secretsocietyof:

    LOL YOURE A LOZER, DUDE!

  • @selurxelpirt ROFLMAO LOLWUT PEPPL CALL DIS MUZIK>?Z? LOL

  • It's modern, edgy, complex, and an entire concept of its own. Honestly they're one of my favorite bands EVER.

  • yes!!!!

thats what I tell one of my freinds that despises BTA.

It takes so much talent to write and perform their music that I credit them as an amazing band.

Thank you for not being inanely close minded.

  • thanks for having brains that work in your skull!

  • I get so pissed when people bash this band... and compare them to between the buried and me. It seems there are just way too many idiots that think they know anything about anything. They're extremely technical and play hard time signitures and insane rhythmic figures. And every once in a while theres a bit of melody. If that's not for you, fine. But don't call it "technical wankery"... fucking ignorant babies.

  • Thank you! I agree with you this band is amazing! It remains one of my favorite instrumental bands.

  • It can be hard to distinguish real technical wankery with technical mastery when you don't have the ear to enjoy such complex music. Man, I love Behold...The Arctopus.

  • too bad charlie zeleny isnt with them anymore, and the performance was spot on.

  • wish they would play the ending. one of the best endings i have ever heard.

  • behold the arctopussy

  • Love that part around 1:00 BTA rocks

  • this is basically like eating tha inside of of a cows anus while spontainously combusting from riding a russian prostitute too hard

  • god wears the mask of ego, jazz is old slang for "shit" if anything is jazz inspired then the artists could care less who likes and doesn't, as long as one person in the world likes it, obviously they were good enough to get signed, everyone thinks differently, people say spiral architect and spastik ink are shit too, everyones got an opinion

  • Can anyone tell me the make of his guitar and which model it is?

  • id love to learn how to play that fucking bass!

  • ive noticed...

a LOT more people watch bta to bash them lol. not cool :/

  • It's just jazz turned way up

  • I think that this band should play for the Taliban!

Why you ask? because their music would kill every single person in the room....sorry but i really hate this band

  • This, Canada, and Alcoholocaust are definitely the bands most listenable songs. Of course, the quality of this video doesn't do it justice.

All of their songs are pretty amazing on a technical level, but they are the most accessible to the average ear.

  • Loaded this up in Audiosurf. If you think Dragonforce is hard, think again.

  • Behold The Arctopus IS THE WORST BAND EVER

  • Behold The Arctopus SUCKS!

  • why? because your ears can't quite take in the level of noise? it's called avant-garde metal, you fucking pussy. get used to it. it's here to stay.

  • thats right! xD

  • Are you fucking kidding me? I've been hearing these guys since they started, they are NOTHING new to me.

Because I can not take the level of noise?

    I am a pussy?

You have no idea retard. This music is garbage,

And NO it's not "Avant-Garde" It's a waste of time.

    Arcturus is Avant Garde.

This is just trying to BE something. and it fails miserably.

Besides, progressive an avant-garde hold an ego-problem in their name.

  • MUSIC : SERIOUS BUSINESS.

  • Caltor, I think it was David St. Hubbins who once said "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever."

  • Comment removed

  • collin marston is insane

  • too bad they couldnt add in the ending part like in the studio version. Such an incredible ending. It actually looks like an aura, or an orb or something like that bellowing out of the speaker. or maybe that's the weed talking

  • if you like the ending of this song. Check out the GAZA's song "hospital fat bags" and the ending is pretty sweet of that song too.

  • The middle is amazing...

  • This is interesting because they sound very rehearsed and their playing doesn't repeat. It's like a kaliedescope. Keep up the good work.

  • heres what they said before the show.

"oh crap i forgot the tabs"

"dont worry lets just all play random shit"

  • And then you listen to the studio album and it sounds just like it does here. They know EXACTLY what they are doing, you festigio.

  • It is odd... Anyone can talk as much crap on them as they want. Listen to an album and you may think there is no coordination, but they can reproduce it just as well live. I have no idea how many time signatures they go through in a single song, or even what the signatures are, but these guys are a breath of fresh air... Cancer air that goes into your lungs, and fucking kills you because it's so heavy!

  • where in the world can u find their albums?

  • I actually found one at Hastings once. Best bet would be online, check their myspace or their site, or from their label distro.

  • @thedanned yeah dude it sounds like shit both ways

  • listen to the studio version man.... you'll change your mind!

  • still sucks, sy

  • dude this is some amazin shit!! very technical...i love prog but this is like a whole nother level of prog!! 5/5~~

  • they all sound like robots

  • "it looks like 2 6 string fretboards put together"

It's a Warr guitar. Google it.

  • How the hell can anyone say these guys suck? I bet that nobody that disses Behold... The Arctopus can play even close to what they can do. In fact, I doubt that most bands in general can play as close as they can.

That said, what an amazing band. These guys are the most extreme, insane, and kick-ass instrumental band I've ever listened to. And I heard just about all of them.

  • yes,Behold...The Arctopus is very interesting band, but the most kick ass band is dream theater and as close as Behold...The Arctopus and even better can play sleep terror.its just my opinion =)

  • Sleep Terror Fucking rules!!!!....an these guys....well lets just say they need work on emotion ...theres no feeling.....just..technicality...an that to me is boring I don't care how fast or well they can play doesn't change anything

  • NatasxXx666, you seem to have your bands switched. Also, Sleep Terror is pretty god awful live.

  • I see plenty of emotion...No emotion is sitting there like a tool, not moving at all, just ripping away on your instrument.

  • @r0kas I was talking about instrumental wise. I've never listened ti Sleep Terror, but I agree with you on Dream Theater. I saw them live last year. I don't think I ever saw a band play so phenominal live my whole life, and I've been to a bunch of concerts.

  • @U2SaxFan you should check out dysrhythmia, colin plays bass in that band, their instrumental and their fucking awesome

  • @U2SaxFan it's a chaotic mess even if it was planned there's no emotion in this shit....lets just tap on my fretboard at 250 bpm and bang on the drums like a bunch of idiots and call it a song...it sounds like the Mario brothers drowning

  • @nycbassist76 k do this and after, record it, and play it over and over again in shows like it sound in your record

    thats what these guys do

and yes it is made to sound chaotic, thats the mystery about the 12 key time signature... it sound assonant and atonal, it is not easy listening

you looked like a total fool dissing something you dont even know and cant even describe because you are simply too mindfuck by their talent to see how they use it

just like 90% of ppl, you hate this for no reason

  • @joesakik88 it's suppose to be music...i dont need your scientific explanations on how compicated it is to perform or comprehend this garbage.....music is a listening art and i hear chaotic nonsense...to write music with your only goal being to make it as complicated and avant garde as possable with no emotional purpose is pointless and a poluttion to my ears i really could care less if they wrote a song in 35/16 15/8 or 9/4 if it sounds like shit

  • @nycbassist76 wtf are you doing here?

shitting on a band I like?

I really dont care what you think these guy rock and like 90% of ppl out there you cant apreciate this kind of intricate music

    dont blame me....

  • @nycbassist76 and BTW it is music its not because a mind of some weirdo think that this is garbage that it actually is Picasso draw a famous painting that was a fucking red dot, green square WOW thats so unamazing for me but for 90% of the people out there it was art, it was magnificiant so my arguement is pointless to them just like yours is to me music is music art is art its not made for everyone to like art is about creativity diversity orginiality if you cant apreciate in this then GTFO?
  • You don't listen to any math rock or fusion rock, do you? The music is not all about emotion and whatever else you criticise this band for. It's about combining polyrhythms, rhythmic syncopation, and rapid key and tempo changes, taking those, and, combining them with spasmatic polymeters, while the guitar and bass play oddly structured 8th and 16th notes, creating something that to most small-minded people just sound like chaos and noise. Yes it's chaotic, and that's their intention.

  • (continued) By using this chaos with dynamics and various-paced notes here and there, they create this odd shape of music that fucks with your mind till the end, and that's what the "emotion" is supposed to be. If you don't believe me, listen to a math metal band like Meshuggah, then come back here and say there's no emotion to this music.

Now that I made my point, I'm done ranting.

  • @U2SaxFan yeah it's called a worm up....and hitting a bunch of random strings and hitting random shit on the drums.

  • @tbrhunter No it's not random at all. It's all structured, believe it or not. Just not like the way a typrical song is structured. What they're doing is combining polyrhythms and rhythomic syncopation with polymeters and rapid key and tempo changes. The result is something that's chaotic, but full of power and raw emotion, a billion times better than any warm up. Open your mind a little when listening to these guys, and you'll see what I mean.

  • @U2SaxFan listen to animals as leaders if you want some amazing instrumental. not nocking these guys at all cos there insane but AAL are my fav personally

  • Schitzo rock!

  • that bass is rediculous in a good way

  • nice random fit combinations..

  • I don't think you can fully appreciate the greatness and craziness of their music unless you play a musical instrument or two. Who said every band has to be so melodic and pop?

  • this is probably my favorite Behold... The Arctopus song.

  • Yeah, I like this one, "Sensory Amusia", and one of the ones on Skullgrid, can't remember the name.

  • Sensory Amusia is great.

i really liked Some Mist offa skull grid.

  • Yep. They are. :D

    Cool

  • WOW this guys suck. Are they the creeps from that video with banana ibanez?

  • these guys kick ass but ill admit that video sucks the one your thinking of

  • these guys are up there with Tera Melos and Hella. You dont need a lot of kids on the stage to make that much beautiful noise (its a compliment.).

  • The intelligence it takes to write a piece of music like this is remarkable. I'm not kidding, try composing a 6 minute song with a time signature change every 2-3 bars.

  • it's called 'ADD music'. ya know, when you can't pay attention to the song long enough to write a full one, so you just kinda stick a bunch of random riffs together.

  • That might be the case. I think Colin, or Mike admitted that You Will Be Reincarnated... was nothing more than a bunch of riffs thrown together. But I do think such songs as Exospacial Psionic Aura, Transient Exuberance, Sensory Amusia, PAINcave etc. are all very well composed, and have lots of thought behind them.

  • if you dont listen you dont even hear the structure so everyone hating listen a lot more closely maybe get a good ear for music and come back maybe then you may be able to hear a lot of the structure these guys have talent to be able to play and not lose time bcuz of the different time sigs and etc hell i dont even know if i like them lol thats how different it is but that doesnt make it bad listen more closely

  • this would probably be kinda good if they, uh... did`nt play this stuff together

  • This song rules, my favorite off of Nano-nucleonic Cyborg Summoning

  • Incredible. These guys are amazing. The only thing I wish they had was a vocalist. Someone like the dude from Pig Destroyer.

  • that was intense

  • i thought they were a shit band form the guitar one video but this just disproved everything i thought great sence of melody and just wow

  • I cannot BELIEVE that they can play these songs live and have them sound EXACTLY like the record... incredible.

  • You guys Ripping on BTA all suck you can't even comprehend the musicality of it. Its not just pure tecniquie listen to it closely and you'll realize how incredibly structured it is. People are idiots they don't understand music.Have an open mind because chances are these people are far more talented that you guys who are ripping on them

  • fuckin rite man

  • These three men are musical geniuses. Do you know how frequently they change time signatures? It's fucking amazing.

  • Right..."geniuses".the only problem is that music isn't math. Sure,u can describe music in math terms but we all know there's a difference between a description & actual taste U shouldn't value music on the count of time changes or the use of uncommon,non-tonal scales, because every practicing musician can easily accomplish that (in time). What you consider as "genius" in this case is just a meaningless & totally tasteless display of coordinated finger movement on the fretboard-not music

  • Any decent musician can accomplish any musical feat in time. So, what's your point?

  • My point is that it can be a good exercise in non-diatonic playing & time sig. changing, but doesn't really qualify as anything of "musical" value.

  • st3f0sp said it all. "What you consider as "genius" in this case is just a meaningless & totally tasteless display of coordinated finger movement on the fretboard-not music. " Have a nice day.

  • what the fuck is this

  • So when does the real band go on?

  • wat kind of amp do put a warr guitar in?

  • Eish person has its way of seeing music,i think both classic and this kind of prog metal need an open minded person to hear, you can´t judge a band only using one song played live to say ''they suck''

  • if i ever see anyone of these three people i will personaly slit their throat and piss in their windpipe

  • enjoy prison buttrape.

    /comment

  • lol

  • That's just it; they're expressing themselves in a non-traditional way, which is great. What they're playing sounds good to them and has a good rhythm, but when someone like you, who's never heard anything like this before, listens to them, it just sounds like noise. It's like how old people look at bands like Trivium; it's just noise to them. Ever heard of Dillinger Escape Plan? Their older stuff sounded a lot like this and they had a huge following.

  • well im sorry they are not an ACDC cover band and follow said common patron

  • No... ACDC is horrible. What i said about common patron is basiccally, scale, tempo. The songs looks like a series of riffs putted together. The drummers looks retarded.

I'n not saying you can like it or not. But you cannot say this is musically elevated. If you want speed listen to paganini or malmsteen. This are just riffs put together.

  • It's not about speed, it's about chaos.

  • ya its not typical shred guitar that follows proper music theory and is just a bunch of insanely fast arpeggios played flawlessly... its technical and chaotic... I guess you just have to have an ear for it..

  • I do infact have an ear for those types of music, as well as this.

  • For what i've been hearing... trigger me trigger you... you don't look like a classic player, neither a person who likes classical music.

    Such a nonsense of screams.

I won't keep discussing with people who thinks this crap is superb... and then pretends to appear as a classic mussician even when he plays in a crappy band.

  • ok, retard, I never said I was a classical player, but I do have an ear for it... sorry I like more than one genre of music, douche.

  • How the fuck is this not music.

  • haha, i think the people that don't like this band don't get past the first few seconds. as with all prog/tech stuff, you have to listen to the song for a while to soak it all in. i like these dudes, and i'm usually not into this kinda stuff at all. listening to these guys have let me open up my tastes a little. maybe some people should try doing the same rather than defending one certain genre as the best.

  • are you fucking kidding me???

  • Everybody who doesn't like this band can fuck off. They're AMAZING. If you imbeciles can't understand them, blame it on your own narrow-mindedness.

  • if yer seriously curious as to why people like this.. maybe inquire into the nature of the music.. ask questions. how could you honestly be suprised!! of course people like this.. how do you think it arrived here on youtube. and if you're not interested in it.. why bother posting an empty comment on youtube? if you're seriously curious.. ask anyone here and i'm sure they'd be more than willing to give context for appreciating this music.

  • because its fucking awesome

  • lol, because to be open-minded and all, we need to LOVE this band. Stfu and go home. No one HAS to like this band. Pull your head out of your ass.

  • lol best comment ever

  • just because u dont like this band doesnt mean ur narrow minded and simple, it simply means that some people dont like this band.

  • Meh...

Slow it down and it may be less pretentious. I'm not very impressed by speed experimental prog.

  • Then why the hell watch this sob

  • pretentious! maybe examine the definition of 'pretentious'. these fellows are offering up some of their musical explorations.. doesnt mean you have to like it! but to glean pretentiousness from instrumental music, albeit complex music.. is unwarranted. and these claims coming from someone whose into thelema and king crimson!! hahaha

  • señoras y señores, he aqui al ruido en persona XD

  • this is so up it's own arse

  • At least it has a theme. This is pretty tight. But what the hell - it's extremely innovative.

  • if the guitarist on the left made a mohawk on his hair .. it would be hella long

  • if the guitarist on the left made a mohawk on his hair .. it would be hella long

  • Garbage, sad excuse for music.

The world is fucking retarded if these guys get famous.

    I can't believe this.

  • this is instrumental/jazz/metal/technical/mathmatical the drums are a bit loud but this is still hella tight

  • This is not one single bit jazz. Jazz has structure, melody, and chord progressions, along with many many different chord structures and positions. Never compare this "music" to jazz.

  • Someone has never heard free-jazz, it actually has less structure tha this.

  • why is this in the music category?

  • it would suck like hell to change the strings on that thing
