Granted, i don't think a diet of pure fat is extremely healthy for the fish (at all... that would kill me if i had to only eat pure fat), but they are still able to survive. Plus, it's not like they're breeding them. It's just a matter of keeping them alive for a day or two before cooking them, to keep them fresh. They then eat the fat, and get fat themselves. It keeps them fed, keeps them fat so they are good to eat, and keeps them alive.
Generally speaking, goldfish aren't raised to be eaten. No one I know of fattens up goldfish to eat. Outside of some weird-ass delicacy I haven't heard of, goldfish aren't served in restaurants.

The problem is, goldfish are so small. Even the largest specimens, Koi, are still rather small for the "raise to eat" thing, and are more valuable as pets. I think if anywhere eats goldfish on a regularl basis, it would be Japan or another Asian area.

you are ignorantly misinterpreting - there is a threshold of cephalization necessary to be aware of pain and a much higher one for a sense of emotional trauma. It isn't a matter of one being smarter than another, but one being incapable of certain thought processes.
for an example do you worry about the bacteria that dies when you wash your hands?

@lisashaye not necessarily. Some animals will start to eat something, spit it up, and go back to eating it. Or just move on. Granted, i don't think a diet of pure fat is extremely healthy for the fish (at all... that would kill me if i had to only eat pure fat), but they are still able to survive. Plus, it's not like they're breeding them. It's just a matter of keeping them alive for a day or two before cooking them, to keep them fresh. Although i could be mistaken, i don't know if they eat them

@lisashaye why does nobody watch the entire video/read what it said. It clearly said that they aren't inside of the fryer, they are in a cool water tank underneath the fatty part. They then eat the fat, and get fat themselves. It keeps them fed, keeps them fat so they are good to eat, and keeps them alive.

Generally speaking, goldfish aren't raised to be eaten. No one I know of fattens up goldfish to eat. Outside of some weird-ass delicacy I haven't heard of, goldfish aren't served in restaurants.

@Draknfyre i know, i haven't either, but i was just trying to find a decent argument that would make those people look somewhat normal. and either way, i'm pretty sure goldfish are eaten somewhere. Maybe not wherever you live, but it's possible that somewhere, goldfish is a standard food fish, like cod or salmon. Although i could be mistaken.

The problem is, goldfish are so small. Even the largest specimens, Koi, are still rather small for the "raise to eat" thing, and are more valuable as pets. I think if anywhere eats goldfish on a regularl basis, it would be Japan or another Asian area.
