2:45-3:34. Those are my favorite moments in this anime. Especially when Moroboshi is looking to see if anyone is watching to see him kiss Lum. That is just too funny, Another funny part is when Megane and friends plus Mendou are mad at Ataru for kissing Lum. This anime was really great. It never disappointed me as much as Ranma does. This is how Rumiko Takahashi should've kept creating her animes. But, she just likes pissing off her fans these days.
That was great series with well drawn characters and their weird personalities.
I enjoyed epecially references to Japanese mythology and folklore, besides main theme which is liked Ms. Takahashi said :I " t's good for people to love each other"
probabilmente non mi capirà nessuno , ma, voglio dire che anche se è solo un anime, mi è dispiace che le puntate siano finite =(.... I LOVE YOU LUM!!! XDXD
Two non-UY cameos: 4:25 - Kei from Dirty Pair & 5:44 - Kyoko from Maison Ikkoku, although she's a Takahashi creation.
I looked pretty carefully, and I didn't find Dracula among all of the many characters that appear in this (Episode 27 "What a Dracula!"). I didn't see his little bat companion either.
I can see how Kei and Kyoko ended up in there, Tsukasa Dokite was the animation director for this episode, and was also the character designer for Dirty Pair. He was also the animation director in some of Maison Ikkoku's early episodes.
Yeah, that would explain a lot with regard to Dirty Pair. I've seen some of the DP episodes, and the character designs here and in them are pretty much spot-on in their similarity. I wonder if that also explains the other times I've spotted Kei and Yuri some earlier UY episodes ....? BTW, I've always LOVED the original DP character designs for Kei and Yuri.
He also did the animation direction for the 3rd and 4th UY movies. I also recall reading some interview where he said that for Dirty Pair, his character design for Yuri was based off of Lum. Dokite's largest output was during the 80's though, he doesn't seem to be as active these days.
Just looked up Dokite, and also found that he was a key animator for Project A-ko, and other 1980's anime icon. As far as I'm concerned, this guy can join Yuji Moriyama and Katsuhiko Nishijima (who were also heavily involved with UY) as my favorites from that period.
Ataru + Lum never kissed in comics. This anime couldn't complete until the end of the story in Japan because of losing an audience rating. (Hokuto no Ken Kenshiro, Dragonball, etc. came out around the time.) So, the movie 5 The Final Chapter is the end of story in comics.
Also, this Orihime episode is the beginning of the comics and there's no kissing scene. Since this anime had to shut down in the middle of the story on TV all of a sudden, the second anime company w/Shigeru
Yamazaki briefly added the early manga's episodes and arranged the story to finish this anime.
no offense to GeneralOlde, but if you think about it, without Urusei Yatsura, there probably wouldn't be other anime that came down the pipe, such as Lupin 3, Vampire Hunter D, and even Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha. Thanks to the genius and brilliance of a young Japanese female artist, we are able to enjoy these animated features and are able to appreciate the latest ones that have come out since then.
Looking back on this series, I don't even know why I got into it in the first place. It's mediocre at best, and there are only four likeable characters: Lum, Shinobu, Kotatsu-Neko, and Kitsune. Why watch this when you could be watching masterpieces like Lupin III, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Death Note, and Samurai Champloo? Anime today is so much better.
I like all the characters coming back in the end, but it could have been better. As for the comment about the fifth movie having the "perfect" ending, I would probably agree, since the fifth movie was _supposed_ to be the last movie. The sixth was just kinda an after thought and wasn't all that great.
compared to Ranma and InuYasha end's, I think this was pretty good. Actually with the way the brought back all the characters it was very good! In addition, the 5th movie is supposed to be the perfect ending so if ur stilled ticked, go watch that.
An intersting thing is how at the biggining it looks nothing like anime, but by the end it looks just like it.

I know why Ten thinks she is a dentist! Notice the headpiece she is wearing. It's similar to what dentists would wear.

He based Yuri off of Lum? That's odd, because she looks more like Shinobu (with a bit of a bust enhancement and with longer hair).
