Th kitty at the beginning looks like one of my cats Oz... He is not a bad-ass though like those cats you have there. Might pay to use gardening gloves when you feed them.
@Ansonidak What are you talking about? I have 2 cats, one is 16, one 15 and they're completely domesticated. I know when they wanna go outside, when they wanna come back in, when they want food, when they just wanna chill. They don't crap or pee in the house, they don't wreck the furniture. They're much easier to control than dogs if you bring them up right. They'd never dream of scratching any human unless the human deserved it.Cats are really easy to keep if you start em young.
Heh, I've been through exactly that experience. Personally, I'd feed them on the ground. But I see the advantages to your method. Reduction of tripping hazard vs. easier neck access for kitty attacks.
I've been feeding two feral cats for two years. I can't get any closer than ten feet to them before they skedaddle. On the other hand, my dog is mortified when the cats rub up against him and purr.
We take in strays from Spain. They are like this when they arrive. I love it. Proper cats take no shit from anybody. You would be surprised how quickly the women i live with can love the grit right out of them. XD
@NeoDolph1n Yes, cats REALLY trade on being cute. If there weren't so cute, we'd see them for the cruel, vicious, sadistic predators that will torture a prey animal to death for the sheer pleasure of the act that they are.
And I love cats! I just don't have illusions about what kind of creatures they are. (I've got one who tends to show affection by trying to tear out hunks of skin. The name for the habit is 'treading'.)
My oh my! They're so hostile! Of all the many cat-lovers I know, I've yet to encounter any who own cats that growl at the mere presence of their human caretaker. My two cats are practically animated stuffed animals, who let me effortlessly cradle them about. They do tend to cry outside my door if I work (write) for too long. They're a touch spoiled, I'd rather that than have them be so wild.
@JBarracudaL What you've got there are a band of near-feral cats who've learned how to take advantage of the human tendency to feed cats without the normal behavior pattern of being cute and adorable (in the presence of humans) that it normally takes to induce it. (There are bands of feral cats in Europe that are renowned for how well they play the tourists for handouts. There are famous bands in Pere La Chaise cemetery in Paris, and in some parts of Venice that live off them.)
Hahaha! They should be called the Wild Bunch. I'm sure I could go in there and pet those Kitty's. If I ever get to your place you can film me trying, just before phoning the ambulance.
I'm presuming you are maintaining this colony of cats for the purposes of rodent suppression? Otherwise they'd be exploring the world of centrifugal forces with me wearing the armour they use for training police dogs! ;)
LMAO...little ingrates. Have you ever talked to the ranch owners about getting them sterilized? That would help to keep the population down, of course, and some of them would come down a bit.
@NotSoOldHippy My dog is the one who likes cats... She likes to chase them. I find them too hairy to eat. And there are far too many ways to skin a cat.
@DooMDrat They do it on purpose. They're fully aware of how amusing two-legged animals appear and they're always itching to land one of them on their face.
@mayrana2 Actually, it's not that mice gravitate to humans, but to our food stores. Since this is a working cattle ranch with work horses, there's sure to be feed grain stores, as well as some spillage. Mice LOVE the stuff.
yeh these cats are half feral if not all feral, maybey you should feed them more often, or, ship in a few cases of mice from a lab that dosnt need them for experiments any more , just an idea.
Barn cats rule. I know they are a bit aggressive since they arent really domesticated, but i still like them. And they are still "kinda" safe to be around, so long as you do make contact with them on THEIR terms.
Oh these are good cats. I remember working in a house one day and we had to get this pregnant cat out before we did some sensitive work she was not supposed to get into. Two grown men armed with brooms and sticks could not get that cat out of the house, I was shocked and never thought that a small feline can display such aggressiveness and ferocity. We left her inside and hoped for the best :P she was a good kitty and didn't ruin anything.
They're wonderful animals if domesticated, I adore cats.
Only the marginally friendly cats have names. The wild ones do not. Tripping Hazard is one of the older cats; Dirty Nose is the same age. The rest I generally called "Leave Me The Fuck Alone Or I'll Get The Fucking Shotgun."
