hi , i have a old cobra 148 gtl , version 5 pins microfone , i would like to make this modification using irf 520 , i use the same parts , (Parts used= IRF520N, EKL: EN369-FN, 50K pot. (Gate voltage set to 4.3 volts) )

and the bias voltage is the same , 4.3volts for cobra 148 gtl , do you have a site for this tutorial

The ERF2030 works the same as a IRF520N providing you get the right ones!

Do you have info on mosfet conversions for the older uniden chassis's with the MB8719 and UPD858 PLL.

Also can you advise on the values are for bias for your mod.

I do not use these devices anymore as i now have replacement 2SC1969/2SC2312 transistors which work as good if not better than original Mitsubishi's.

The IRF520/ERF2030 type MOSFET's were only used to replace the obsolete Mitsubishi devices but they are not RF linear devices and are prone to failure, if you see my other videos you will see the new 2SC1969/2SC2312 type transistors being tested which i have listed on Ebay.

@weazle66 ERF2030 = IRF510 not as you noted IRF520

please check BOTH the data sheets for these, there is a marked difference

the 520 has a higher voltage rating..

I use the IRF520 as it has a higher drain current rating, the voltage makes no difference.

The IRF510 is just as prone to failure!

The EN-369FN would be about 4 AUD.

im thinking of just using a 1n4148 and a fixed resister and variable ,as its hard to get a en369 device for the biasing ......

The EN-369FN is a special part which combines 3 parts in1.

IRF520N 's are not standard RF devices and will not work without this part they also require higher biasing voltages.

I have the EN-369FN part in stock.
