In my opinion, you feel cooler with your socks off. I always take my shoes off then my socks then my trousers. If I was naked in my socks, I would feel nervous. When I have my socks off and jeans on, i feel like confident. with the shirt and socks off and jeans on, you feel like a master seducer, which I was not but in the moment, it felt great.

@hmmBEEFY No its not, The Beeb sold this to the US snd they made it with thier own actors - it didnt work - it shows how different Friends and Coupling were, It was a programme about comedy and about the different perception of what is and isnt funny is in different parts of the world.

Well, I was just pointing out a few consistencies. I've watched every episode of Friends and Coupling, and I enjoyed both, despite being American - although I really didn't understand all the jokes in Coupling. Then again, the giggle loop is genius no matter where you're from. =]

The programme that they showed here where they compared different comedies from different places and how the audiences reacted was rather intersting - My fave character in Coupling hs to be Jeff - he just makes me roll around with laughter - he left though and it wasnt quite the same again. By the way, - I love friends, my kids (teenagers) do too - and no matter how many times we have seen it, they never get tired - my teenage lads love Joey in particular

well the usa-version was a couple of minutes shorter - witch in turn made the dialogue forced and too fast. more line-reading than acting. comedy is all about the timing.

I think of Friends as a poor man's Coupling. It lacks the originality and genuine hilarity of Coupling.

Even then, I don't think you can compare the two. Aside from the three-men three-women main cast, and four of the cast pairing up, what do they really have in common?

I always saw Friends as a show that focused majorly on the cast's lives, while Coupling focused more on their sex lives.

But that's just me.

The joke is in Jeff's over-analysis and quaint way of expressing himself. Sex can be preceeded in so many ways it is not funny. A simple taking off your pj's, doing it on the couch after taking off your clothes. I might get around to "observing taking off my socks" after 30 years of marriage. Jeff is actually a quite intelligent person, it's just that he has allowed his intelligence and knowledge to sway him into a somewhat sordid, perverted, frantic mindset. And oddly enough, he actually doesn't do badly at attracting women on first sight. It's when he lets his manic insecurities run wild that he mucks it up. The Israeli Girl and Wilma Letting were keen on him. And so was Patrick's one girlfriend, who procured the wrong kind of threesome.
