I just heard the original version of this and I think the new version is not that different. I also like Jennifer Hudson voice for this song. As good as Luther was, he did not do justice to the middle portion of the song and Jennifer had the range to make it more than it really is. you guys are just old and pre-historic open your minds to change. The song is supposed to be sung low, with the singer not calling attention to him or herself and letting the highlight clips stand out. That's why David Barrett and Teddy Pendergrass were so good at it, they understood they were the background. Jennifer Hudson did not, which is why she was a disaster.

Absolutely the WORST version of "One Shining Moment" EVER, especially considering that this year's tournament was the best ever. I expected bad things when I heard they were allowing Hudson, that manufactured semi-talented pseudo "star", to do the singing. But I never expected the atrocity of seeing studio clips of Hudson, screeching away, in place of actual game clips. The CBS imbeciles responsible for producing that shameful mess should be unceremoniously FIRED! And Hudson really SUCKS.

the song needed an update and this version keeps true to the original. What CBS decides to do on visuals is another thing entirely. If Luther was alive then i could see still using him in an updated version even with the same vocal but since he is gone it would be a bit weird.

This was horrible. The drums do not sound right. The High hat is to loud. The kick drum is not loud enough, and the snare has no life to it. She can sing, but her voice is to high for this song. At times she can be piercing. And the choir sucks. Whoever produced this should shot. CBS just wanted to put a modern face on this beautiful song. What they did was put a horrible rendition on this classic song.

Epic fail - sorry Harvey and Jennifer. It's not that we don't think both of you are talented. It's entirely CBS's fault with messing with something that wasn't broken, trying to appeal to a female, younger (whatever) demographic and for allowing Harvey to interject the singer into the montage. It's not about her - it's about those 65 teams - players and coaches who sweated for weeks for their shot at the top. The time spent showing Jennifer could have given us more game highlights.

Actually, in at least one year's version, the song had a 2-second clip of Luther near the beginning, but nothing after that. Hudson got way, way too much facetime in the CBS 2010 montage. And although I have no problem with a woman singing the song, Hudson didn't do the trick. Hope CBS goes back to any of the previous versions.

I was disappointed when I finally saw the "new" version of "One Shining Moment." It did not seem to have the same momentum as previous arrangements and it is unclear to me why there were at least two cut aways to Jennifer Hudson singing the song.  My impression the song is not about her.
