The secret is...

The fence's spikes were retractable. As in, they would go inside of the poles beneath it. Meaning, that someone pulled a draw-strap, lowering Criss down onto a gentle fence. To explain the spikes in his chest, the film was cut, right as the drawstring was launched. The first time you see the spikes in his stomach, the are actually behind him. Then when it switches scenes, they had stuck the fake spikes to his stomach. Not that complicated. :)

Yes.... truly remarkable set of illusion. Beginning from the response of the owner of the fences, I would have to say that my first clue were the design of the fences. The fence has a pattern that's un-even. In scene 0:24, the (so-called) "audience" seem to find a particular position to lay Criss straight across the fence. I'm not entirly sure how he was able to pull it off, being impaled. There's quite a number of ways to play the whole scene. All I know is that the whole film is "illusionary"

I think that it's set up...not for the audiebce but with the guy who owns the fence. The fence section would collapse inwards and fake fence protrude outwards from unnder his clothes. when something is triggered the lower fence will drop and the fake fence will go up out of his clothes.
