Apparently this person does not answer any messages sent to him. I noticed that he is in Finland, so I wrote him a letter 1,5 months ago in Finnish ( no answer). Wrote again in Swedish ( because in Finland they speak it . . . again no answer). then about 3 weeks ago I wrote in English and as of 04.07.10, no answer! I give up ... I get the hint!
I'm confused... If using an open differential and having a brake on each side that can be operated independently to make turns... what then happens when traction is lost?
logic dictates only one side would spin... in the case of a tracked vehicle having one side spin would make it turn to the one side??? WTF.
Its making my head hurt thinking about how this works.
@letterpool Oliver/Cletrac crawlers used the same concept to turn: an open diff. with a heavy break on each side of the diff. Its not perfect, but will turn on a dime.
thats pretty awsome. iv seen other tracked vehicles on youtube, but that one is so small. looks like you could take it throught he woods no problem. and your choice of a turbo diesel is perfect. it sounds like a mini tank! put a air cannon on the top with a turret and find some targets:)
the RIPSAW that was built in MAINE is 100,000 times better and faster, this thing is slow, noisy, and they would very easily jump the track with that thing, not like with the ripsaw, they have something that keeps the track in place.
Ripsaw started in a garage... they funded it an found people to fund it after it started getting very expensive, there was a story on them in popular science magazine. just FYI
@J1I9M7M4Y that company only had a small budget to design and build the ripsaw. they HAVE the budget they do because of the ripsaw, they were givin millitary grants to finish the design.
i know now where old skid steers need to go. to this guy or to me that little thing could easily be made out of a old junker skid steer. nice job buddy the setup you have there could be a money maker if you added a few extras to it. i will keep the extras i am thinking about to my self i see a future company coming true.
where did you get the jack drive for it? was it new or did you get it used out of some thing else? I have been thinking about building something very similer to what you build there but I plan on mine being a lil bit bigger, not much but maby another 3 feet long for a bed and maby using a quad engine. Also for the throttle how do you ahve that set up?
i really want to know how you did the steering on that awsome thing. My friends and i are going to try and build one and we have to figure out how to do that part.
so how does he turn it? simply by having a differential and apply brakes to the side that he wants to stop? that seems logical to me. and easy. could build one out of an old lawnmower guts. hook up the gear box and differential to a quad motor or soemthing, along with a chassis and tracks! sounds like a fun project.
the tracks are from bv 202 swedish army vehicle. it has izuzu 2.0 diesel with turbo and izuzu 5 speed transmission. there is no plans about this machine. the plans are only in my mind
Where do you get plans for something like this?..... looks like awsome fun!!!

I'm guessing this thing is somewhere in Europe. It sounds like a diesel engine with a turbo. Plus the smoke comes out when he flogs it.

Letterpool I just went through a huge discussion on the use of an open diff with a bunch of tank people. I know it seems crazy but it does work.

Have you developed a set of plans for sale? Do you have the specs on this. This thing looks awsome.

if one side looses traction, you apply braking on that side.. thatll put the drive on the other side
floatncoffee 2 years ago
then wouldn't that make it turn a bit? or is that just the inherent nature of tracked vehicles?

Yeah.. And the ripsaw is made by a company that have a budget like a small country... Let us see what you can build in a barn?!

@J1I9M7M4Y You must be talking about really small countries. $28K is NOT a lot to develop a machine with.
