how old are they since you bought them back and start to handfeed your own? it's great to see that they are now grown up and happy together. You're definitely a good hearted, kindful, lovely and responsible pet's lover =) Great to see you and hope there are lot more videos share to us. Good day and GOD Bless!
They are adorable! I have 3 blue and golds and I love them! I work at a rescue for exotic birds and I love to see birds so well loved and taken care of.
@buttnuttz These are hand raised and very much loved and socialized babies, they do this totally on their own. As you can see in the video they can leave my wife any time they want, yet they don't.
Yes you can as long as the cage is large enough to accomodate the bird very comfortably, he has plenty of toys for both mental & physical stimulation, leave a radio or preferably a TV on for further visual & mental stimulation and you would have to allow him plenty of time out of his cage to spend time with you and family once you did return home.
I love this video. I have a Blue and gold she is called shan short for Shannon. She is a little weary of strangers as she has been mistreated before i got the honour of having her and giving her the loving home she defintly well deserves. Anyone who hurts these beautiful birds is PURE EVIL in my mind.
i have a question, i have a macaw (about a year old) and i'm going to get a new baby, but i want my macaw to enjoy her new brother/sister. how do i introduce them. i dont want my new baby to get hurt, so do i like, show her the baby, but at a distance, wait a while, make sure there are no signs of agresstion before i let her come close and investigate?
It depends on the species of Macaw & individual personality. In my experience, Blue & Golds & Green Wing Macaws are extremely affectionate, loving companion parrots, with the most even temperment, who make wonderful additions to a family or single persons environment as long as good socialization is maintained.
I don't sell them to anyone without first hand parrot experience, as macaws deserve and require someone who has previous knowledge of parrots, and parrot body language.
As for noise level, they can certainly be loud, however, if they have what they require in terms of diet (varied diet consisting of pellets, fruits, vegetables, mashes, pasta, rice, bean mix, nuts and some seed), housing (large cage with a minimum 40" width for them to stretch their wings), physical & emotional stimulation (constant rotation of toys so they don't get bored, which can be quite costly due to the sheer size of the bird and their beak) they rarely call out.
They are very special. We just had our first clutch hatch of this years breeding season. We pulled 2 babies, I believe one is a male, the other female. One is 14 days old the other 11 days old. They are bare at this point, very pink, with the eyes on the eldest just beginning to open. I will try to get a video of them. They have little bucket mouths and are very cute, to me at least, but others say only in a mother can love kind of way :-) You'll have to be your own judge.
Ohhhh, I would love to see a video. :) I think they are cute when they are that little too. It's their innocence that draws me to them. I don't think I would be able to let them go to the adoptive families if they were my babies. :) Of course, there is such a thing as tooooo many macaws..lol
OH MY GOSH..That is the sweetest thing, I too am owned by a blue and gold Macaw..First time owned, he's actually a rescue and he is a wonderful addtion to my home..(Well his home)..His name is Mikey..as we now know he's a guy..!! but I have a question, mabey you can help..Sometimes after a shower and his snack of apples, which he likes to feed me too !!! he gets this really strong smell like fruit loops..does yours ever smell like that?? and what is it...???
Most species of Macaw give off a scent, some, as you described, have a Tutti-Frutti smell, while others have a more spicy odor like nutmeg or cloves. Amazons also have a distinct smell to them, which I love.
Thank you for responding...He loves my wife to pieces..the reason I asked about the smell is that alot of times he'll crawl up to my wifes shoulder and nuzzle with her and rub his beak or face on her cheek back and forth and his beak will get quite warm and he will get that smell which is so frutty and he just starts the little babbling noises..as if he is talking to her..when he is like this with her he will chase me away !!! jajajaja...Thanks for sharing your vids, we will soon share ours...
Ah, precious!
