  • Facts don't do what I want them to.

  • This was the perfect encore for the climax of "Take Me to the River" in STOP MAKING SENSE.

  • the first time i heard this album it was on 8 track, and i thought it was just okay. then i heard it on vinyl and loved it. however i thought this song was killer from the beginning. boy do i love that drum loop!

  • I tried casual in 1991. didn't take

  • This song is fucking awesome!

  • There will never be another Talking Heads. There will never be another band this original.

  • thanks for the effort!

  • I love when he starts rapping at 3:46

  • This is my favorite! Nothing better exist. Crosseyed And Painless.

  • I got stoned (or went tripping) to this song (amongst a few other selct tracks) SOOO many times back in the 80's... this song just amazes me...

maybe i twas the drugs, but f*ck - the imagery thats was going on in my head to this was always senSATIONAL !!!

  • @leibniz80 I think the 2010 band/song you are looking for is 'In the Hospital' by Friendly Fires....

  • "There is a line there is a formula, sharp as a knife facts cut a hole in us"

This song is the best ironic answer to "Timewave Zero" paranoia of 21 December 2012: forecasting the end of our world...

"I'm ready to leave", "Looking for the danger signs", "facts are useless in emergencies"

It could be a great single or download hit for 2012. Anyway: this song (lyrics and music) has an eternal retro freshness: "feeling returns whenever you close your eyes".

"I'm still waiting, I'm still waiting"

  • awesome masterpiece!!!!!!!!

  • I migtht end up in a hospital, alguna vez les escupieron porque no tocaban country,, hoy son una influencia de la musica actual.

  • saw them in torhout 1979 and brussels after B52

    T.H.didntwant to stop playing

we didnt want to stop dancing

until security put all the lights on and ..we continued

    .

  • the BEST

  • seriously, this album kicks ass and i am picky and somewhat knowledgeable about music. you must check out anything from eno as well. TH's Fear Of music is one to not miss.

  • the island of doubt is like the taste of medicine facts are nothing in the face of things just twist the truth around

  • no information left of any kind

  • facts just push the truth around i'm ready to......... still waiting facts don't do what I want them to!!!!

  • Freshman in college. Fall 80, when this LP appeared. Listened to it in my dorm room. Defined an era (or at least a semester).

  • thats amazing

  • "I'm changing my shape"

Simplicity of the four hidden close ups is by hindsight a very prophetic statement: you can hide yourself behind pixels and bits. The change of colours fits well!

  • complicated music, and yet it's built up out of very simple little patterns

  • I was a TH freak during school. I should have spent more time listening to them than studying.

  • The original Blue People.

  • Complicated music, much to complicated for 95% of most of today's pitiful bands to even comprehend. Can't think of any modern band that can compose, produce, play anything near close to TH in talent. Anyone?

  • @n8tureboy COME ON. Radiohead, (In fact....The Red Hot Chili Peppers sound similar to this song), Bjork, Arcade Fire....Hell, Tool, The Shins, The Strokes...I can go on and on...GOD I'm so tired of people pretending that the only good song out there is the one they happen to be listening to on Youtube.

  • @sk80soarus

Hmmmmmm, let me see now. While I'm sure that you're accurate in your evaluation of those bands, I'm seriously going to have to wait twenty years to see if they'll have the same impact the the T Heads are still having. BTW, I'm not pretending anything, I'm simply giving MY opinion. Guess what...opinions are like ass-holes and elbows, most everyone has one.

You disagree and good for you!

The groups that you just mentioned aren't inspiring to me in the least.

  • @sk80soarus

Also, read my comment carefully: I said 95%!

Maybe those bands you just rattled off fall into the other 5%, perhaps? AND when I say most of today's bands are pitiful-I mean it! Pathetic would be an understatement!

    I remain unapologetic, I am, N8.

  • @sk80soarus Your choice of bands to list didn't exactly win me over to your side, sorry to say.

  • Απο τα πιο ομορφα τραγουδια που εχω ακουσει ποτε!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brazilian Girls actually do a respectable cover of this track- of course the original is the original!

  • To metalmachinemaniac;Maybe you don't know but David Byrne is guest star to Phishes version.

  • The bass is double tracked - the riff is on one track and the 'pop' is on another - the reason being that it is VERY difficult to play both as flawlessly as needed for the studio - listen to the live version & Tina plays the riff only - very similar to 'Lowdown' by Boz Scaggs, i.e., riff on one trac k & 'pops' on another - all that matters is the final result, which kicks ass 3 decades later...

  • sharp as a knife.

  • DIE GEILSTE SCHEIBE VON TALKING HEADS !!!!

  • Much ass kickage.......

  • This song sounds so sharp on my laptop!

  • So ahead of their time.

  • This is original 1980 version, kicks phish's ass in all departments, their 1990 was quite good but thats it. I saw them do this live on the youtube and it was shite, i mean my ex-college could have played it better. Talking Heads = Legends

  • its not just tinas bass the song has good melody too

  • phish aint got nothing on the talking heads.

  • 80s music peaked right here.

  • You where are the usual corrupted versions of good music?..Dancer version!!

  • @jonapplegarth I know those words, but that sentence doesn't make any sense.

  • NOW you know why Radiohead is a good band...THANKS TINA

  • i can,t find the dancer video to this song :(

  • @edwardelricfangirl1 You mean the Toni Basil one? There's a version of it in my sidebar at the moment (vid code v_Yx306xi1s). Of course, you could always get the "Storytelling Giant" TH video compilation, which also has some wonderful comments from "real" people between the songs. ;-)

  • where we go where we have been all the same as now.

when we get there we are here when here we are getting there.

would light in the cosmic mind of mine blind the binding that binds us together

    so what is what so

creating the late lighting in the nite neither rides or raids what was there of theirs

when ever endless meaning has more meaning then endlessness then the poem ends

  • I'm still waiting for a band that picks up this and transforms it to the 2010...years

  • @leibniz80

    /watch?v=eHkT6wEo05c

  • @leibniz80 And ruin this? How could you think of such cruelty?!

  • @leibniz80 phish

  • @leibniz80 have you ever heard of Phish?

  • @leibniz80: You're not looking hard enough, and need to try harder.

  • @leibniz80

Can't think of any band talented enough to take it on-can you?

  • @leibniz80 Friendly Fires - In the hospital, comes remotely close

  • @leibniz80 you may want to check out this one: Cui Jian - Let Me Sleep, from China in 1989

    youtube id: Uq8C3_r7zo4

  • @leibniz80 Mmm.. Eight months ago. Still waiting? :)

  • @leibniz80

hells ya ive thought the same thing myself many times!

  • @leibniz80 phish does it

  • @leibniz80 That sounds terrible.

  • @leibniz80 I'm glad nobody has done that. Don't mess with perfection.

  • @leibniz80

    youtube.com/watch?v=eHkT6wEo05c

  • @leibniz80 In the Hospital by Friendly Fires

  • best song in the entire universe!

  • @bend0matic .... I agree

  • i didnt grow up on this...im kinda just discovering this and so, "omg lcd soundsystem was freakin heavily influenced by david byrne and co.!

  • "Feeling returns whenever we close our eyes"

This obsessive song must be dedicated, ironical in hindsight ways, to the rememberance of Terence McKenna.

"I'm ready to leave, I'll push the facts in front of me"

"Facts lost, facts are never what they seem to be"

"Lifting my head looking for dangerous signs"

"There is a line there is a formula. Sharp as a knife facts cut a hole in us"

    "facts are useless in emergencies"

"facts just twist the truth around"

    "I'm still waiting"

  • @Contextcatcher interesting context. good catch.

    oh gawd, im melting.
