the first time i heard this album it was on 8 track, and i thought it was just okay. then i heard it on vinyl and loved it. however i thought this song was killer from the beginning. boy do i love that drum loop!
"There is a line there is a formula, sharp as a knife facts cut a hole in us"
This song is the best ironic answer to "Timewave Zero" paranoia of 21 December 2012: forecasting the end of our world...
"I'm ready to leave", "Looking for the danger signs", "facts are useless in emergencies"
It could be a great single or download hit for 2012. Anyway: this song (lyrics and music) has an eternal retro freshness: "feeling returns whenever you close your eyes".
seriously, this album kicks ass and i am picky and somewhat knowledgeable about music. you must check out anything from eno as well. TH's Fear Of music is one to not miss.
Simplicity of the four hidden close ups is by hindsight a very prophetic statement: you can hide yourself behind pixels and bits. The change of colours fits well!
Complicated music, much to complicated for 95% of most of today's pitiful bands to even comprehend. Can't think of any modern band that can compose, produce, play anything near close to TH in talent. Anyone?
@n8tureboy COME ON. Radiohead, (In fact....The Red Hot Chili Peppers sound similar to this song), Bjork, Arcade Fire....Hell, Tool, The Shins, The Strokes...I can go on and on...GOD I'm so tired of people pretending that the only good song out there is the one they happen to be listening to on Youtube.
Hmmmmmm, let me see now. While I'm sure that you're accurate in your evaluation of those bands, I'm seriously going to have to wait twenty years to see if they'll have the same impact the the T Heads are still having. BTW, I'm not pretending anything, I'm simply giving MY opinion. Guess what...opinions are like ass-holes and elbows, most everyone has one.
You disagree and good for you!
The groups that you just mentioned aren't inspiring to me in the least.
Maybe those bands you just rattled off fall into the other 5%, perhaps? AND when I say most of today's bands are pitiful-I mean it! Pathetic would be an understatement!
The bass is double tracked - the riff is on one track and the 'pop' is on another - the reason being that it is VERY difficult to play both as flawlessly as needed for the studio - listen to the live version & Tina plays the riff only - very similar to 'Lowdown' by Boz Scaggs, i.e., riff on one trac k & 'pops' on another - all that matters is the final result, which kicks ass 3 decades later...
This is original 1980 version, kicks phish's ass in all departments, their 1990 was quite good but thats it. I saw them do this live on the youtube and it was shite, i mean my ex-college could have played it better. Talking Heads = Legends
@edwardelricfangirl1 You mean the Toni Basil one? There's a version of it in my sidebar at the moment (vid code v_Yx306xi1s). Of course, you could always get the "Storytelling Giant" TH video compilation, which also has some wonderful comments from "real" people between the songs. ;-)

where we go where we have been all the same as now.
when we get there we are here when here we are getting there.
would light in the cosmic mind of mine blind the binding that binds us together
so what is what so
creating the late lighting in the nite neither rides or raids what was there of theirs
when ever endless meaning has more meaning then endlessness then the poem ends

"Feeling returns whenever we close our eyes"
This obsessive song must be dedicated, ironical in hindsight ways, to the rememberance of Terence McKenna.
"I'm ready to leave, I'll push the facts in front of me"
"Facts lost, facts are never what they seem to be"
"Lifting my head looking for dangerous signs"
"There is a line there is a formula. Sharp as a knife facts cut a hole in us"
"facts are useless in emergencies"
"facts just twist the truth around"
"I'm still waiting"
