Boxers especially have to have their tails docked do to the high risk of breakage. And dew claws are removed so that they don't rip off the claw. Both of these injuries can cause animals to die from shock, or the exceptional amount of blood lost.
Dew claws are done for safety reasons and cosmetic. The dew claw can get caught in hair or other things and get ripped off causing bad damage to the dog. And the nails do not get worn down as the others and can curl and grow back into the foot also causing damage. I promise its not as bad as it seems and the pups get over it quickly. With them being 3 days old the bones are still soft so it is NOT like cutting of your finger.
I am a Vet tech. And honestly people they yelp a lot more at the clinic. Every Vet docks differently. Pups should be 3 days old so the bones are still soft some use kwik stop, glue, or sutures. Its mostly a cosmetic thing now but used to be important for working dogs in the past. Think about human boys getting circumcised after birth can't be much worse.
If you guys do some research, vets say it prevents the tail from curling back and causing disfigured growth, but idk if that is. Idk if my yorkies tail is docked but he does have like a 4-5 inch tail at 7 months and you can see it wag

Saw a few of them after they returned from getting their ears cropped, and they were fine; playful and active.
My brother didn't dock or crop his Doberman. The dog has broken his tail twice, regularly wags blood all ver the place, and has had several ear infections.

It seems to me that the pup was more startled by the clamp becasue as soon as he takes the clamps off the squeeling stops on both pups. They have underdeveloped nerves at this young of an age.

I work in an animal hospital and i really don't see anything wrong with cropping a tail. I don't believe it is cruel, and at three days old it is not traumatically painful to the puppy because the bones are not yet fully developed. It is quite a simple procedure. the dog will grow up just the same as a dog with a tail, and will be less susceptible to health problems later in life, such as injury, infection, or tumors. If anesthetics were used on a puppy that age it would die. that'd be cruel :P

I worked at a vet, if you give them anesthetics when they have 2-5 days the poor lil dogs can die (rarely, but you don't want to risk it, right?), if you cut they're tails without anesthetics it will hurt them when you cut it and sting for a short period of time but they are too young to get traumatized so they can grow like every normal dog, and the most important thing, THEY WON'T DIE...people should grow up.

@lioxoda I didn't do this unnecessary surgery, I was only my uncle's assistant for 9 moths, he did this and no dog died, btw he doesn't do this for fun, this is what customers want, and if the vet would refuse they would probably do it at home and the risk of infection for the dog will be higher. Like I said, if customers want docking and docking is legal what can we do? I had a rott and I didn't want docking but I don't consider it traumatic for the dogs if it's done properly.

I have to tell you. this is one of the better video's i've seen on using hemostats to dock tails. yes it does hurt for a moment but it's way better than using anesthesia at the vet's office, especially for small dogs. I have known many pups that have lost their lives under anesthesia due to careless vets. this way you can comfort the pups during and after, the mom is close by and the pup can be comforted by it's mom almost immediately.

The puppies don't remember it. I remember the time that my neighbor had some Cocker Spaniels and docked their tails off and removed their dew claws. I watched, and the puppies were perfectly fine the next day. They don't remember at all. Yeah, it hurts a lot. It's like getting your finger chopped halfway off when you are a three day old baby. But, you don't remember it.

So yes, docking the tail when they are 3 days old sounds fine to me. We cut humans umbilical cord, don't we? We don't feel or remember it happen.
@badmannagla quick biology lesson- the umbilical cord does not have nerves in so removing it does not hurt and it's kind of a necessity or else a baby would DIE. Compare that to cutting off something's tail... erm, no, not the same. Painful and useless. If it happens at some point to have had a beneficial effect, it is coincidental- this is not done to prevent against some terribly dangerous risk that comes with being born with a tail or they would do it to all dogs and it wouldn't be illegal.

Yorkies with tails are nasty. The only breed that has a tail docking standard that looks acceptable WITH a tail is the boxwr... Otherwise the others need their tails chopped off. Nice job btw.

It seems to me that the pup was more startled by the clamp becasue as soon as he takes the clamps off the squeeling stops on both pups. They have underdeveloped nerves at this young of an age.

I work in an animal hospital and i really don't see anything wrong with cropping a tail. I don't believe it is cruel, and at three days old it is not traumatically painful to the puppy because the bones are not yet fully developed. It is quite a simple procedure. the dog will grow up just the same as a dog with a tail, and will be less susceptible to health problems later in life, such as injury, infection, or tumors. If anesthetics were used on a puppy that age it would die. that'd be cruel :P

@crazy662255 Dude, human babies are circumcised...doesn't that hurt? I worked at a vet, if you give them anesthetics when they have 2-5 days the poor lil dogs can die (rarely, but you don't want to risk it, right?), if you cut they're tails without anesthetics it will hurt them when you cut it and sting for a short period of time but they are too young to get traumatized so they can grow like every normal dog, and the most important thing, THEY WON'T DIE...people should grow up.

What respect you deserve. Of course you have demonstrated your concern for their well being by saying how many you mistakenly killed with anaesthetic when you were mutilating them, so of course you believe it would be kinder to do the mutilation without it.

@lioxoda I didn't do this unnecessary surgery, I was only my uncle's assistant for 9 moths, he did this and no dog died, btw he doesn't do this for fun, this is what customers want, and if the vet would refuse they would probably do it at home and the risk of infection for the dog will be higher. Like I said, if customers want docking and docking is legal what can we do? I had a rott and I didn't want docking but I don't consider it traumatic for the dogs if it's done properly.

I have to tell you. this is one of the better video's i've seen on using hemostats to dock tails. yes it does hurt for a moment but it's way better than using anesthesia at the vet's office, especially for small dogs. I have known many pups that have lost their lives under anesthesia due to careless vets. this way you can comfort the pups during and after, the mom is close by and the pup can be comforted by it's mom almost immediately.

The puppies don't remember it. I remember the time that my neighbor had some Cocker Spaniels and docked their tails off and removed their dew claws. I watched, and the puppies were perfectly fine the next day. They don't remember at all. Yeah, it hurts a lot. It's like getting your finger chopped halfway off when you are a three day old baby. But, you don't remember it.

@Angelika988 I used to think cropping tails was cruel until I saw what happened to my friend's English Mastiff's tail. They do it because their tails get very large and become injurious. The mastiff hit a book shelf with her tail and it busted open, blood everywhere. I'd be apt to believe that it's possible for them to bleed out if that happens. So yes, docking the tail when they are 3 days old sounds fine to me. We cut humans umbilical cord, don't we? We don't feel or remember it happen.

@badmannagla quick biology lesson- the umbilical cord does not have nerves in so removing it does not hurt and it's kind of a necessity or else a baby would DIE. Compare that to cutting off something's tail... erm, no, not the same. Painful and useless. If it happens at some point to have had a beneficial effect, it is coincidental- this is not done to prevent against some terribly dangerous risk that comes with being born with a tail or they would do it to all dogs and it wouldn't be illegal.

Yorkies with tails are nasty. The only breed that has a tail docking standard that looks acceptable WITH a tail is the boxwr... Otherwise the others need their tails chopped off. Nice job btw.

@almobryty so when a dog gets it tail caught in a door and YELPS it didn't hurt? so i should go an cut off my 5 yr old rotties tail (he's ukc registered and they don't accept docking) and he wont feel me doing it? Wrong. They DO feel it, there are nerves in their tails and they do feel it. There is a better way to dock then this and it is called banding basically like an umbilical that will just fall off with no pain what so ever to the pup. Again this is done at 2-3 days old just like docking.
