Kids have such malleable muscle memory, with the right practice fast things like this become ingrained. However, the experience and understanding of music that is essential to great playing takes time.

I used to be able to play piano when i was his age, and by muscle memory i can still play intricate sections of plenty of songs, but I can't learn new things at all.

But, if he sticks with it and learns WHY that song sounds the way it does, he'll be phenomenal.

the song isn't that hard....... just requires practice, and the correct fingering. The way this kid does it is the only way to play it correctly. You need 3 fingers for the 1st chord, 4 for the 2nd two, and leading 3 for the last. And picking pattern is down down up down up down up. from then on it's a matter of speed.
