I was born September of 1989, and my father told me that he bought this Album the day I was born- then gave it to me 12 years later. I still have the cassette. Play it all the time. It's some really good music.
How could not anyone listen to this song in the morning and not wrestle heaven down to earth and make it real in the lives of everyone that crosses our path. Indeed. Let the day begin. Can I get an Amen?
I just looked this up because I wanted to hear this wonderful song. I am so sorry to learn of Michael Been's passing. Truly a great songwriter & musician and a charismatic singer. Damn, this sucks that he's gone! :'(
I'm angered and saddened that I didn't hear about this ages ago...it should have been shouted from the rooftops that we lost an enormous soul. Passionate and caring man...truly a great heart and a great band...
This is one of the most underrated bands in rock history. Please, does anyone out there have a version of "The River" (or "In the River") that you could post? It's The Call's most amazing, heartbreaking song, and I cannot find it anywhere! Help!!!
I saw in the call in mar 1986 when they opened for simple minds here in houston, tx. I was so impressed w/their music, I went & bought reconciled. I learned there was a Christian connection to them so that endeared them to me. actually, I like simple minds but this band blew me away. I am saddened to read of his passing. if what I learned in 1986 is true then Michael Been is with the Blessings from above. a moment of silence. rest in peace, brother.
This song has been on my phone alarm for many years. Let The Day Begin. My wife and I dated and fell in love to The Call. We had the privelege to see them here in San Diego at the very small venue, The Bachanal, twice! Love that bass Michael! Our 18 year old daughter even loves them. Heaven is a better place....

Met him in Berkeley back in 80's...He was very no bullshit and real...And funny...He gave a friend of mine his leather jacket after they went shopping and she couldn't find one...
This is so sad that Michael Been passed away! Let The Day Begin is one of the most uplifting songs, and has also gotten me through some very dark days. How sweet that you were working sound for your son at a music festival. Men who help their children with their craft are great men in many ways.
loved the band and this song in college.....it got played all the time on our school radio station....who knew the call could be so popular at a little engineering school in south dakota.....?brings back so many good memories of the friends i had that listened to this band so much...you will be missed, michael....time for rock and roll heaven....say hi to lowell george for me...
I am so glad I had the chance to catch these guys back in the 80's . It was totally out of the blue and I never heard of the band, one of my friends had tickets to see them and his friend had an emergency come up so he couldn't make it to the concert. I went, not knowing what to expect. I was overwhelmed! They were intense! I was a fan from that night onwards. So sad to hear of Michael died, this a terrible loss.
if there was such a thing as great music in the 80s, this band was the best of the BEST. driven by Michael Been, his great voice and guitar/bass abilities, this "singing poet" had a way of touching my soul... they were overlooked by the critics and record companies but WOW did they ever get my attention
Recently was turned on to this band, (this song), by my sister. As I was researching them this morning, I learned that Michael Been passed away...just yesterday.
"Here's to you, my little loves, with blessings from above. Let the day begin." )-;
Rest in Peace Michael. Now you can sing this song in Heaven. I always thought this was the song God would sing at the start of every day. Now you can jam together.
Any Town or City is only as strong as its residents. Past, Present, or Future. White collar, Blue collar, No collar, or No shirt. Ron has moved on to another local station. I still hear him playing this song sometimes when I can. Now though, I'll bet he plays it with even more Pride.....And a little tear in his eye.......What a way to: "Let the Day Begin."...................Just Sayin'.
(cont...) I believe, to depression and alcohol some time back. Truly everyone's loss. Ron would often refer to Lisa as his "Radio Wife." And would after her passing, say that he, this town, and these people got "The Best Part" of Lisa each day. Lisa would often lovingly speak on the air of her Father: "Ranger Myrick."........ Ron, who's Blue Collar roots ran deep as well would always "send one out to those Construction Workin' Men and Women. And Anyone with a Work shirt with their Pocket."
For those of us in the Oklahoma City, Ok. area, this song has a special significance. Lisa Myrick and Ron Benton, popular morning DJ's on KRXO a local radio station, played t-h-i-s song at the beginning of every morning shift. Very inspiring. OKC is a town that has endured a lot: (the Bombing, May 3rd, and May 5th F-5 tornadoes, and of course......the 'economy.' OKC is a largely blue-collar, working class, "hard-nosed" town. This song could easily be our "Anthem...." We ''lost'' our "Dear Lisa."
I saw this back in the 80's at THE RITZ , I think it was in Roseville. Didn't know who they were prior to going to the show , I was hooked. Great band! Also one of their songs was playing in the movie The Lost Boys in one scene.

@dodgybizkit That is very sad news.. I grew up in the same town Michael was
from ( Park Forest, IL) and used to see him playing around town w/ cover bands.
He was great even then- he replicated the solo to "Nowhere Man" perfectly! Later
on, I saw him in L.A. playing guitar w/ Moby Grape, and I thought, "wow.. Michael
has really arrived" !! A really talented man.. R.I.P., Michael.
