Here's to the closing of the age...

  • The drummer is my drum teacher lol

  • You know I call myself agnostic. This song, when I hear it, I don't know, makes me doubt doubting.

  • @Turnback Keep doubting that doubt my friend.

  • THE CALL ROCKED!!!

  • One of the greatest songs from the '80s.

  • I'm angered and saddened that I didn't hear about this ages ago...it should have been shouted from the rooftops that we lost an enormous soul. Passionate and caring man...truly a great heart and a great band...

  • This is one of the most underrated bands in rock history. Please, does anyone out there have a version of "The River" (or "In the River") that you could post? It's The Call's most amazing, heartbreaking song, and I cannot find it anywhere! Help!!!

"When I was quite young, I had learned to fear

I was taught to listen, but not to hear

from my Mother's arms, I was cruelly torn

and they whipped my ass from the day I was born"

  • im saddened to hear of his death always liked the band i play into the woods cd often still,,,, rip

  • I saw in the call in mar 1986 when they opened for simple minds here in houston, tx. I was so impressed w/their music, I went & bought reconciled. I learned there was a Christian connection to them so that endeared them to me. actually, I like simple minds but this band blew me away. I am saddened to read of his passing. if what I learned in 1986 is true then Michael Been is with the Blessings from above. a moment of silence. rest in peace, brother.

  • rip...

  • This song has been on my phone alarm for many years. Let The Day Begin. My wife and I dated and fell in love to The Call. We had the privelege to see them here in San Diego at the very small venue, The Bachanal, twice! Love that bass Michael! Our 18 year old daughter even loves them. Heaven is a better place....

  • @clutch1955 - I had the privilege of seeing The Call a few times. My first show was when they opened for Peter Gabriel in 1982 at Golden Hall and then the 1983 at the SDSU Outdoor Amphitheater. I also saw them at the Bacchanal. That was a great place. They were a very underrated band.

  • Just an awesome record! Had my head stuck in rap in 1989 so I missed it.

  • I said once that this is the song God sings when he wakes up in the morning. Now Michael Been can sing it with Him in person.

  • Audio is not the best...but is still a great song !!!

  • Michael Been passed away of an apparent heart attack on August 19,2010. He was at the Pukkelpop Music Festival in Hasselt, Belgium. We have his son and family in our prayers. The Call's music will always live on.

  • @dodgybizkit That is very sad news.. I grew up in the same town Michael was

from ( Park Forest, IL) and used to see him playing around town w/ cover bands.

He was great even then- he replicated the solo to "Nowhere Man" perfectly! Later

on, I saw him in L.A. playing guitar w/ Moby Grape, and I thought, "wow.. Michael

has really arrived" !! A really talented man.. R.I.P., Michael.

  • @dodgybizkit i seen these guys in springfield when i was 15 at remingtons before they became famous they were awesome i saved money for those tickets

  • good journey

  • @lars879 This band was sooooo underrated

  • Met him in Berkeley back in 80's...He was very no bullshit and real...And funny...He gave a friend of mine his leather jacket after they went shopping and she couldn't find one...

  • RIP young man.

    Cupertino, Ca.

  • Another great one is singing in heaven now.

    RIP, brother.

  • RIP Michael Been

  • What a jewel from the 80s. Godspeed Michael:)

  • This is so sad that Michael Been passed away! Let The Day Begin is one of the most uplifting songs, and has also gotten me through some very dark days. • I am so glad I had the chance to catch these guys back in the 80's . It was totally out of the blue and I never heard of the band, one of my friends had tickets to see them and his friend had an emergency come up so he couldn't make it to the concert. I went, not knowing what to expect. I was overwhelmed! They were intense! I was a fan from that night onwards. So sad to hear of Michael died, this a terrible loss.

  • Michael, you'll be missed brother,Robert sorry to hear of your loss.

  • if there was such a thing as great music in the 80s, this band was the best of the BEST. driven by Michael Been, his great voice and guitar/bass abilities, this "singing poet" had a way of touching my soul... they were overlooked by the critics and record companies but WOW did they ever get my attention

RIP my brother... I'll see you again

  • Here's to you, Michael Been. Let the eternal day begin.

  • RIP Michael Been.

  • Recently was turned on to this band, (this song), by my sister. As I was researching them this morning, I learned that Michael Been passed away...just yesterday.

    "Here's to you, my little loves, with blessings from above. Let the day begin." )-;

  • C-ya on the other side Micheal! ~Peace bro. You're Free!

  • Rest In Peace Michael xxx

  • Amazing song. Powerful message.

  • Rest in Peace, Michael Been

  • Rest in peace Michael, you are now a star in heaven.

  • Rest in Peace Michael. Now you can sing this song in Heaven. I always thought this was the song God would sing at the start of every day. Now you can jam together.

  • Rest In Peace, Michael.

  • R.I.P. Michael.

  • RIP Michael. :(

  • RIP.

  • Rest in peace, Michael Been. Dead at age 60. A devastating loss.

  • RIP, Michael...

  • I heard this at work the other day....I had forgotten how great this song is.

  • One small "correction / addition:" I "meant" to type:.........'with their Name above the Pocket." Thanks for Indulging me..........SEE-yuh'!!!

  • Any Town or City is only as strong as its residents. Past, Present, or Future. White collar, Blue collar, No collar, or No shirt. Ron has moved on to another local station. I still hear him playing this song sometimes when I can. Now though, I'll bet he plays it with even more Pride.....And a little tear in his eye.......What a way to: "Let the Day Begin."...................Just Sayin'.

  • (cont...) I believe, to depression and alcohol some time back. Truly everyone's loss. Ron would often refer to Lisa as his "Radio Wife." And would after her passing, say that he, this town, and these people got "The Best Part" of Lisa each day. Lisa would often lovingly speak on the air of her Father: "Ranger Myrick."........ Ron, who's Blue Collar roots ran deep as well would always "send one out to those Construction Workin' Men and Women. And Anyone with a Work shirt with their Pocket."

  • For those of us in the Oklahoma City, Ok. area, this song has a special significance. Lisa Myrick and Ron Benton, popular morning DJ's on KRXO a local radio station, played t-h-i-s song at the beginning of every morning shift. Very inspiring. OKC is a town that has endured a lot: (the Bombing, May 3rd, and May 5th F-5 tornadoes, and of course......the 'economy.' OKC is a largely blue-collar, working class, "hard-nosed" town. This song could easily be our "Anthem...." We ''lost'' our "Dear Lisa."

  • great beat and message.

  • Life affirming and life saving. Thank you for making this video and song available.

  • I saw this back in the 80's at THE RITZ , I think it was in Roseville. Didn't know who they were prior to going to the show , I was hooked. Great band! Also one of their songs was playing in the movie The Lost Boys in one scene.

  • I think "I don't wanna" is a rock classic

  • An absolutely awesome song. Inspired.

  • it feels like a lifetime ago that I first heard " Into The Woods", it is still in my top ten lps of all time. hats off to you

  • Danzig sure looked funny back then...

  • i like this band, but, somebody have the song thah it s name is: THE WOODS.?

  • The Greatest Band of the 80s ... thanks for posting

  • @normfromal the eighties mostly sucked, and then came The Call!

  • I haven't heard this song in years and then yesterday I saw the movie Tango and Cash and heard this song as part of the sound track. Great band and great music!

  • TANGO AND CASH!!!

  • Indeed .....a good song.

  • Fab song. tragically did jack here in Oz. But in 1983 had the hit "The walls came down" not the style council one. (they blew their horns and the walls came down,

they`d all been warned, still the walls came down) -Daz in oz

  • Very moving song. Especially the part, "Here's to the soldiers of the bitter war, here's to the wall that bears their names".

  • @Yakko77

Was just at the wall - very moving...

  • Michael Been is a genius. Thank you for posting this!

  • I think the lead singer is Michael Been and his son started the band black rebel motorcycle club and just released beat the devil's tattoo and Michael Been might be their sound engineer.

  • @mojo314315 he is

  • I used this song for an alarm clock for years!

If this and a strong cup of coffee doesn't help... go back to bed.

  • I've listened to these guys since they came out back in the early 80's.They really rock, and what's cool about them is they have a christian style to their music. They realy pick you up when you're down.

  • Ihad a huge mental block about this band i forgot the name, finally found it love this song awsome

  • what kind of bass is that?? hella great band!

  • It's a 60's bass. Dan Armstrong Ampeg fretless...very rare..just heard that he had it stolen a few weeks ago. He is on the road with his son who is in Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and he had like four vintage instruments stolen..

  • @chuckfrancephoto jeez ... i hope that the info U got was mistaken. Otherwise, I really hope he gets them back. That would totally suck.

  • dodgybizkit....the song far outweighs the lousy politicians who want to capitalize on the merits of well written, timeless song. I couldn't care less what politicians used it. Thanks for posting it though.

  • Ditto....

  • i personally know the drummer!!! he is awesome!!!

  • that's cool. What's the band doing now?I'd love for them to make a comeback.

I still have their tape, and it still plays after 20 some odd years that I've had it.

  • well the drummer is giving drum lessions here in town but but he is going to move soon. I don't know what happened with the rest of the band.

  • its rare for a song to quality as inspirational without a dose of cheese. this is a powerful tune. righteous.

  • hell yeah

  • This song got me through some very dark days.

(Must be played as loud as possible.)

A cup of strong coffee in the morning, this tune... and you can handle damn near anything!

  • @wdchefdave56 Absolutely! I have this as a ring tone ID for my sister. She loves this tune and you definitely cannot listen to it on low volume!

  • @klc9598

    I thank you.

You must really love your sister to give her such a grand gift!

    Low volume is not possible.

    Cheers,

    bro.d.

  • @wdchefdave56 snap n still does and will

  • cool

  • the keyboardist is my uncle

  • @sweetchild95 no kidding? Could you ask if you would like to do a phone interview sometime for a internet radio show?

  • @vonsiems1963 if you are still interested he's on facebook look up Jim Goodwin. Sorry this took so long, my son wasn't sure if he should answer, (that's a good thing).

  • @vonsiems1963 if you are still interested look him up on facebook - Jim Goodwin.

  • @sweetchild95 i love the keyboard on this- i wish he had more screen time.

  • I saw these guys at The Ritz back in the 80's. Went out and bought their stuff right afterwards

  • guitar rif is very much like Queen's Tie Your Mother Down done in 1976.

  • Nickelback - Burn it to the ground
