  • So relaxing, listen to it over and over again.

  • What video was 3:15

  • she also says "I'm yeye". Yeye in yoruba is a reverntial term for a woman who is seen as a mother in the community. All sorts of African in this song. Loving it.

  • hi mommie

  • It's not simply this video it's the knowledge, love, artistry and LOVE that my Sista Soul Soldier shares!! So take heed our upcoming Philosophers. ALWAYS SPEAK YOUR MIND IN HEART AND TRUTH. Sandra Stubbs

  • Was that Erykah badus mother at the very end ?!!

  • @BUandWonderful Nope.

  • goes to favourite's....

  • awwe

  • man i miss songs like this..nobody makes music like this that has a strong meaning to it anymore..nowadays its mostly about sex, guns, or just thuggish slurs..absolutely miss the older days

  • this song is very touching, its the shit

  • MAKES ME THINK OF A BOOK i JUST READ ... ;-)

  • To clarify, it actually does mean mother, just not in Swahili. It means mother in Masai - an African group of people that are educated in English and Swahili. Hence the probable confusion. She didn't make it up. No harm no foul ;)

It's an amazing, moving, touching song....

  • makes me wanna cry every time

  • Tears are welling up in my eyes as I hear this music and her lyrical voice.

  • this song is deep...and so personal LOVE ERYKAH BADU!! she's a midwife too..she's so awesome

  • This song is so beautiful. It reminds me of how strong my mother is after losing my farther last year. They were together for over 40 years, and their love was something special to my mother, but she doesn't allow the lost to stop her from life. She just keeps my farther in her heart. #Onelove

  • Man Why Cant Song Be Made With soul like This Anymore.

  • who cares what it means, listen to the damn song, geeshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • lol it does mean mother in Swahili I looked it up lol Jus sayin lol nice song tho

  • you KNOW erykah? You have seen her passport lol. Right. and I wont even acknowlege lindaab229.

Calm down, all I said was ye yo does not meant mother in swahili. It DOES NOT. sorry yall she should have done her research.

  • Confirmed, she messed up. Ye Yo is not mother in swahili.

Ye Yo means mother in the language of the Masai Tribe in Kenya.

  • @ladyroc504 Actually, Masai are an indigenous ethnic African group who are educated in English and Swahili. So yes, ye yo means 'mother' in Swahili.

  • @ajrabbitx2 I know what Masai are. And the ones I spoke to told me that in swahili you say mama for mother, NOT ye yo. Have you even been to East Africa? Because the folks who actually speak the language say yeyo is not mother. Maybe some Masai cultures but not in swahili. just bc masai speak english and swahili doesnt mean thats all they speak.

  • @ladyroc504 Well I know Erykah, she's been to these places directly herself and heard it from the sources .. Maybe your folks said one thing but hers said another *shrugs* ... Who's right?.. nobody knows

  • Confirmed, Erykah messed up, thats not swahili. Its actually means mother in the language of the Masai Tribe in Kenya.

  • I love the part where you showed your mommy. God bless at the mommies!

  • One of my favorites by a very SOULFILLED songstress.....

  • If you didnt grow up in the 90s you missed the best decade of Hip hop and R&b that there will ever be.

  • Sigh. Erykah...

  • Ladyroc? She said that yeh~Yeh means mother in swahili. :~)

  • @MsAchampion That does not mean mother. Not ye yo, not yeh yeh none of that.....smh...wtf is Erykah talking about? I hate when African Americans try to get to their "roots" and just say something because it sounds good or they were high.

Who speaks swahili and can shed light on this???

  • @ladyroc504 Thats probably because all of the Mental Genocide placed on Blacks in American!!!! Please shut up and Watch the Show!

  • love this song...but ye yo does NOT mean mother in swahili from what I know....did she ever say what country she got this from?

  • @ladyroc504 it means live

  • @lema219 so why did she say it meant mother? If that is what it means, then i can see a conneection, but she got ALL these people thinking they know swahili lol

  • I love this cd. This is her best.

    Music at its finest.

    ♥Erykah Badu
