the difference between training for size and for strength is effectively myofibrilar vs sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, and is a result of the different rep ranges used; powerlifters training in the 5RM and below range to increase that 1RM whereas bodybuilders will train in the 6-12 rep range.
@nokia3210fuck@TheExalTeDGuy bodybuilders bench to make their chess look bigger. On top of @titans091052's comment, they try to isolate it as much as possible. With strength training, you do the opposite, which is to use as many muscles as you can. In this way, @gankzorzz's comment is justified. You'll see bodybuilders, lifting their feet onto the bench so it's only the arms.
yeah... a huge difference lol.. bodybuilders will sacrifice form for reps and isoltaion of a certain muscle. when your benching for strength you need to be perfect or you WILL injure yourself
@gankzorzz bodybuilders won't sacrifice form for anything. well other than a better pump like on curls, but not on any chest work. like m5p944 said, they do sacrifice strength for size.
@nokia3210fuck Yeah. To simplify- when training for pure strength you're going lift weight closer to your 1 rep max at a low amount of reps. When training for size you're going to be lifting in the 8-12 rep range. You'll gain size and strength in both lifting methods. It all really depends on what your goals are. Look up the difference between type 1 and type 2 muscles. It'll make more sense if you know about that.

That bandaid analogy was a trainwreck, but Dave knows too much about powerlifting for it to matter.

Excellent point about number of reps needed to change a motor pattern in relation to improving form.

Bodybuilding is about muscle pump and a little strenght, powerlifting is about pure power and good pump after some year.
If we refere to doping, also bodybuilders are very strong.....powerlifters get stronger than ever :D

sweet! I have a left shoulder problem too and I use the same closer grip because it doesn't hurt.
In the mean im gonna just do light weight high reps(12) and not lower my elbow below the bench.
Waiting eagerly for part3. Thanks dave!
