  • Thank you....

  • I just want to say thank you for posting these videos; thanks to you I got into wet shaving about 7 months ago after dumping the Mach 3 and the skin irritation with it! I wanted to know with this razor, how much of the blade is exposed on the milder settings? I found that my merkur 35c ( i think that's the model?) absolutely killed my face because i could not handle the exposed angle, so I bought the mildest blade angle razor I could get..thanks again and keep posting videos! -Eric

  • that is a nice razor.

  • Handsome! You shave the heck out of your face. Good video.

  • what's you're go-to shave? straight or safety razor

  • muy buen punto que tocaste en el video, yo diría que la única desventaja de la maquina seria el numero de vueltas para abrir la maquina para poner y sacar la hoja.

  • yeah, my beard is way too thick and coarse to go in any direction other than with the grain. otherwise i get wicked ingrown hairs. its a shame, but at least i'll have five o clock shadow on time :)

  • A suggestion, when you hold up the razor to the camera to show it off, try to not have your hand block most it. It's hard for us to see through your hand. ;)

  • @MolenXs

Duly noted, I started doing that on the new vids a little while ago.

    Damn that non-invisible hand!

    Geo.

  • This is good for people with straight hair, however people with coarse or think hair will get razor burn and bumps by doing this. People of color should only shave with the grain

  • This is good for people with straight hair, however people with coarse or think hair will get razor burn and bumps by doing this.

  • @Dynamicparodox

it works on all types of hair, beard, whisker....

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy That looks like one beast of a razor...dunno if I could move up from my beloved 34 HD

  • was good but ya do woffle on an awful lot!

  • @YorkGod1

Yeah, sorry, I get excited about shaving and can't contain myself!

    No harm done though...

    G.

  • do you do this every morning?

  • @bearbassett

    No......

Sometimes I do it during the day or at night time :)

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy I noticed that you were out of stock for the vision. When do you expect to get more in stock. I'd like to get one for both myself and my dad.

  • @FatCat11cz

The Vision should be back in stock early next week!

    Thanks,

    G.

  • How is the Vision compared to the Futur which I have. I always have a little difficultly getting the hairs right under my nostrils due to the size of the head of the Futur. Even when going across the grain, I just can get all of them. How would this compare? Also, compared to the Futur, is the Vision heavier? Thanks and I enjoy your videos.

  • @derek17005

    Thanks!

The Vision is larger and heavier than the Futur...

Shaving the whiskers directly under the nose, (the philtrum) is more challenging with either one.

If your looking to navigate that area more easily, check out other razors such as the Merkur HD, Edwin Jagger DE89, Muhle R89, or other.

They feature a more streamlined head, which allows easier navigation under the nose.

    Geo.

  • Hello Geo I really like your bathroom, in one of your demonstration with gillette 1959 fatboy you were in your different bathroom right? how old are you if u dont mind

  • @loveyrocks

    Same bathroom...

Not sure how it relates to wet shaving, but somewhere between 30 and 60...

    Geo.

  • this guy realy likes to shave

  • @KoBeBryAnTl8l24l

    True That Playa!

    G.

  • @cowboycody58 sorry, I was the one talking about the 150 dollar razor, and she was talking about getting me the 75 dollar futur. The one he is using is the 150 dollar merkur vision. The Weishi is a 2014 dollar razor I bought on ebay just to try wet shaving. I think it is Korean. It is really small and kind of awkward to hold.

  • @cowboycody58 it is all about the quality of the shave. First pass feels like a cartridge razor, second pass is slightly smoother, third pass and it is like you never had a beard. A de razor gives a better shave but it is definitely not faster.

@geofatboy. Trying to decide between a futur and a vision. I really want the vision but my mom is buying a razor for me for christmas and I hate for her to spend 150 dollars on a present. Been using a weishi to learn with and want to step up.

  • @cowboycody58

    Oops,

I'm late for my therapy session.

The class is called: "Dealing With RAD......"

I'm the president of the local chapter!

    Geo.

  • I have this razor, it is a bit expensive but well worth it. The weight isn't bad but I found out the hard way. DO NOT USE ANY PRESSURE! After wiping the blood off, it really shaves great. I was use to the name brand shavers with 3 and 4 blades. Should have asked how to use these blades, who would have thought. hope this helps.

  • great review.

  • @stimulationii

    Thanks!

    G.

  • that looks a fantastic razor, but unfortunately out of my price range. I have read the merkur Futur is a better designed (and cheaper) razor? But I might just go with the 34c. I am sick of paying stupid prices for gillette blades. this is gonna sound dumb but I wonder if you can use stuff like shaving oils/serums that you use with normal gillette shaving instead of doing all the lathering up?

  • @dageezerboi

The 34C is a great Safety Razor to start with.

Lathering up with a nice badger brush is 1/2 the fun!

You shouldn't miss out on that critical part of beard/face prep.

    Geo

  • @dageezerboi If you prefer a gold finish, then you can shop for the 34G.

  • As soon as you think you have matched the shaving master, he pulls out a new trick. In this case, the backhand grip ;-) I used to rotate the razor :-/ The speed is in the details. Thank you for this new insightful video.

  • @egarrulo

    Thanks!

    I'm glad it was helpful.

    G.

  • Your demonstration is really tempting me to buy the Merkur 2000 Vision. It looks like an awesome razor!

  • @Dicedude

    Satisfy the urge!

Or you'll always wonder what it would be like....

As long as you don't hurt anybody, it's cool!

it's a different experience than most any other Safety razor.

    Geo

  • i see a lot of videos using safety razor cutting twice; is that needed? is it really that poor of a shaver? i use disposable and always cut once; i don't get it; it looked fine after 1st shave and yet you put more cream on your face?

  • @TraumaER

Trust me, the Safety Razor shaves whiskers very well without the pulling and tugging associated with your disposable.

I like to get super close, so I perform 3 passes.

If you prefer to stop after one pass, and are happy with your shave, it's all good!

    Enjoy!

    Geo

  • @TraumaER To reach a very close shave without risking irritation, safety razor shavers go after beard reduction in multiple passes instead of beard elimination.

  • @egarrulo I have since gone back to my electric Norelco rotary razor; i might not get super close but i definitely don't get irritation or cuts to my skin hehe; the merkur razor is still best but only if you have skin smoother than a toilet bowl and you have a lot of spare time hehe

  • Hi thanks for the advice, ust thought I'd update you on my progress. Trieda cheap safety razor with wilkinson blades and was very dissapointed. Since bought Gillette super slim adjustable 1962 on e bay and feather blades, wow what a difference, fantastic shave. Also using tTaylors rose shaving cream on your rec. right again thanks for your advice. I'm really enjoying shaving for the first time in years.

    Mike.

  • @501footman

    Thanks Mike,

I'm glad you're now looking forward to your shaves!

Gillette Slim, the cousin to my Fatboy! :)

    Enjoy my friend.

    Geo.

  • @charIesobama

Actually I don't prefer it dry Mr. Obama,

Many times it starts out wet and then begins to dry while I'm talking prior to commencing with shaving.

You can see all different types of lathers while viewing some of my other videos.

There are about 40 of them.

    Enjoy,

    Geo.

  • @johnnyblack1974

    Must be the Vodka! LOL!

    JK, They are great blades!

    Geo.

  • Hi , great vid, thanks. I just bought a straight razor after watchingyour straight video, and I'm learnibg (slowly and carefully) to shave with it. I'm thinking of getting a safety for times when I have't got so much time to shave. What blades do you recommend ?

    Thanks again.

  • @501footman

    Thanks.

    That's exactly what I do...

Alternate between the 2 as time permits.

Good Starter Razors are the Merkur HD and the Edwin Jagger DE86-87-89 or 89L.

Try a sampler pack of blades and decide which perform best on your face. Derby, Shark, Feather, etc.

    Check out ShaveNationdotcom

    Geo

  • your favourite part of shaving is put the shaving cream

  • @Mov3rty

    Agreed!

I would say that applying the warm shaving cream and working it thoroughly into the whiskers is possibly the most enjoyable part of my shave!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy

Hello Sir I wanted to acquire that is Merkur Vision "Hefty" or Heavy Duty razor. Because I wanted to buy a very Heavy Duty razor.

  • @loveyrocks

If you are asking if the Merkur Vision is a heavy Duty aggressive type razor, the answer is yes.

It is adjustable and the weight behind it gets the job done easily.

Also look at the Muhle R41.

    Geo.

  • @johnnyblack1974

    YES!

Because you reminded me, I dug out the package, installed one in my 59 Fatboy, cranked it up to 7 and continued on to complete a fantastic, smooth, nick free shave!

Thanks very much for the recommendation!

I have to track down the Gent who sent me these so that I can get some more!

    Excellent!

    Geo.

  • sounds like it would shred my face!!! i;m scared of those things lol

  • @bringerofrage

    Be Afraid.... Be Very Afraid......

    Just kidding!

    Ahhhh, no worries my friend....

When used as it is intended to be used, the results are usually quite desirable!

Besides, with a name like Bringerofrage, you can't be frightened by much!

    G.

  • @johnnyblack1974

Keep trying out different blades until you land on a blade that will give you consecutive BSS's that you are satisfied with!

    Geo.

  • Hey nice tutorial! I was wondering if this would work for me, Ive heard safety razors help razor rash, I always seem to get razor rash after shaving and have done since i started shaving regularly a couple of months ago. I just use the normal Gillette razors. Ive heard these help but they look like they would just cut my bumps open and make a mess. What type of razor would you recommend for someone who gets a lot of razor rash?

  • @TheZiggy112

Pick yourself up a quality Safety Razor, Shaving Cream from a Tub or Tube,a smapler pack of Blades, and a good Badger Brush and try it for 30 days. Then you can decide for yourself which style of shaving you prefer.

I think I can predict how it will end up!

The Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89.... check out ShaveNationdotcom.

    Best,

    Geo.

  • any chance of doing a buyers guide, for de razors (old and new), blades, brushes and mugs. i know it can different for each person but always good to get experts view, im usin a straight razor but lookin for quicker option for when i dont have time. thanks.

  • @alpla444

    Interesting Idea!

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll see if I can get something together on those items.

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • @johnnyblack1974

    Hmmmm,

I thought the Voskhod blades were Russian made, but I think you're right,

Sounds more like Sweden to me!

I'll double check and let you know how they work out for me.

    Thanks,

    Geo.

  • @johnnyblack1974

Safety Razor (DE) blades will perform differently for each individual user.

That's why I always recommend purchasing a sampler pack so that you can "test drive" different blades until you arrive at the one that results in a superior shave for you.

I have the Voskhod blades, but haven't tried them yet... If you are happy with them, stick with 'em!

Feather and Astra blades tend to perform very well for me.

    Take care,

    Geo.

  • @johnnyblack1974

    Most likely a Feather Blade.

    Geo.

  • you blodded from yo neck..

  • @discovon

    Ouch!

    You have a keen eye!

    Thanks for telling me...

    G.

  • hey man

i shave my head for a long time, now im getting interest to use brush. i was look for it but there are 1000 of them and i really dont know what to do.

since u got a grate experience on that can u help me out and tell me which brand or style is good for a head shave?

  • @kaorine333

A quality Badger brush will assist you in your quest for the BSS head shave. I'll send a couple to your inbox.

    Geo.

  • hey man thanks for video i learn alot

    i have a question

can i apply shave gel directly on brush and apply on my face or better i mixed up before?

  • @kaorine333

    Thanks!

You can load the brush and then lather up right on your face!

Either way works, it's just a matter of personal preference on which way you prefer.

    Geo.

  • Oohh haha ok. I gotcha, thanks mate! =]

  • @Ninorey123

LOL!, no worries, right after that I jumped down off of my soapbox!

    Geo.

  • I have a prettty stupid sounding question lol but I'm curious. Why do most people own so many safety razors? I read a comment on someones channel on how their "speedstick" is his favorite shave out of all the razors he owns. But aren't all razors pretty much the same thing? Just a tool meant to hold the blade in place? While the skill in using it is in the person holding the razor? My guess is ... collectors items?

  • @Ninorey123 Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone lol I'm new to this stuff. I don't even have one yet. I've been watching a few videos and I just wanted to find a way to shave without paying so much for mach3s lol. And the work that goes into cutthroat razors aren't for me. So um. yeah.. I don't see the point of having so many models of razors. I could understand having two. One for travel and one for home. But I see videos with like 10 of these things on display lol.

  • @Ninorey123

    Hah!

Do you eat only one breakfast cereal? Always use the exact same cologne? Date the same woman/man?

Always wear your hair in the same style? Ever grow a beard or goatee, then shave it off to try something different? Why do some people own both a car and a motorcycle?

VARIETY!!! It is the spice of life!

Look up words like ECLECTIC or JOI DE VIVRE in the dictionary!!!

Switching things up, owning different things, it's all part of it!

Enjoy Yourself, Live Life, have some fun!

    Geo.

  • @Ninorey123

I think you might mean "Super Speed" as a Speed Stick is a type of deodorant made by Mennen.

Yes they are all same, and....different!

Some of them are collectors items and some are just fun to look at!

Even more fun to shave with!

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • @pifexx

    No worries mate!

Stick with your electric or whatever it is your using now!

    G.

    Thanks!

Check out ShaveNation.c o m where you can see the razors and some videos of them being used,

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • which saftey razor should i get? and whats the best blades to use for a beginer with the saftey razor.

  • @aaronracine

I highly recommend the EJ DE89 Razor.

Great looks, balance, and shaving performance.

You can't go wrong with it!

Purchase a blade sampler pack so that you can Test Drive some different blades and see which ones work best for you.

    Visit ShaveNation.c o m.

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy thanks man

  • got a question how is this razor i wana buy a saftey razor and what blades do u use? and one more thing whats ur opnion best soap?

  • @aaronracine I'll send the links to your in box...

    Geo.

  • I have, really I want a Fatboy. I've watched a lot of your's and mantic59 videos. I've always used a mug and brush. Saving for a good brush. Have my eye on set with a razor, stand, and brush from Edwin Jagger. Just re-learning the tricks my Father taught me 25 years ago. Want to get back to that. Can't wait...impatient...

  • @SHAVEFAN71

Trust me, I wrote the book on being impatient, I can relate.

After you've completed a few shaves with the new kit, let me know how it works out for you!

    G.

  • Its been six months since you've posted this video, how often do you use the Vision. I use to use this type of razor when i was in the Army and wanted to get back into using the DE style. Found a nice SuperSpeed but want an adjustable. Keep up the cool vids.

  • @SHAVEFAN71

I use it occasionally, it provides a great shave and I recommend it for Gents who have a larger stature and prefer a more substantial razor. I've been using my Merkur Futur a lot recently and have been getting some great shaves out of it, and It's about 1/2 the price of the Vision... It is also adjustable and a bit smaller so it's easier to navigate under the nose and across the rest of the facial terrain.

Check out my Futur vid and see what you think of the razor.

    Best,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy

How does it compare to the merkur slant bar razors? I got an EJ DE86 and I'm looking for a more aggressive approach (although I have sensitive skin).

  • @sooperfukker

The Vision is adjustable and the Slant bar is not...

You can crank this razor to its highest setting and perform a very aggressive shave if you like.

On the other hand, you have the ability to tone it down to mild if desired.

The Slant Bar is always full-on aggressive because of its twisted/skewed blade loading feature.

Either razor will be more aggressive than your DE86.

So, it comes down to eye appeal, adjustable or not, and budget..

    Your choice.

    Best,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy

I just wonder. The slant bars are advertised for "unfortunate combination of strong beard and sensitive skin" and they're told to cut off the hair instead of just chopping it off like the normal razors do.

I wish there was a "Rent'a'Razor" shop somewhere on the internets, so I could try them out :ß

  • @sooperfukker

The Rent a Razor concept is a great idea, but I doubt it will happen as sanitary concerns would be a huge stumbling block...

    G.

  • why do u shave so far up???u r going 2 far up i think!!!doesent it mean that the hair will start to grow their(right below ur eye)??????

  • @WannaBeLoris

I have a scar up there on the left side from back in the day, and very light peach fuzz seems to sprout there occasionally. So, I hit it every once in a while.

    No worries, it's all good!

    Geo.

  • as i stated before in ur Straight Razor "DOVO" shaving video..that i shave w/ the "MERKUR" standard razor & blades..but i really like to get my hands on that Merkur "VISION" Razor!..looks really Super Duper!..thank u "Geo" for the demonstration it's worth viewing over & over again!

  • @tornmask

    Thanks!

It is quite a piece of work!

If you're into a razor that is hefty and substantial, this is right up your alley!

    Enjoy!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Hello Geo, first of all congratulations and thanks for the advice. I'm writing from Italy and I use a merkur vision approximately 1 year but have not yet found the blades suitable for me. what do you think are the most appropriate and less dangerous for an amateur? I still often cut! Hello Thanks

  • @SSpeedy76

    Thanks Speedy!

I'm not sure what you have access to in Italia but some to try are Astra, Big Ben, Feather, Shark, Sharp, Derby, 7AM, Merkur, Gillette, etc.

I find that the Astras and Feathers are among the sharper blades out there...

Buy a few different brands and test drive them until you land upon the winning combination.

    Ciao!

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy Thank you for your reply. I'll definitely try the Astra and Derby, I've seen in a few shops and many speak it well. Really thanks so much for the work you do. Please not stop.

Thanks to your video at 35 yo I have thrown away cans of foam and Mach3 and I rediscovered the pleasure of shaving. Many Greetings from Rome.

    All the best !!!

  • @SSpeedy76 G

    Grazie Mille!

Enjoy your shaves, as they will only get better!

Canned shaving cream is only good for shaving cream fights!!! LOL!.

    Best to you,

    G.

  • the futur with the chrome finish looks awesome. I really want that, but atm using the HD 34cc, only had it half a year! How exactly does the adjustable razors work? eg related to passes and amount of stubble eg setting 1 on downward pass, setting 3 on across the grain pass etc? is that how to use them?

  • @BurnMyEyes0107

You can still perform 3 passes, but the adjustment feature allows you to reveal more or less of the blade depending on how aggressive you want to get with your shave.

I like to start at a 3, 4, or 5 for the first two passes WTG and XTG, then lower it down a bit to 2 or even 1 for an ATG pass on the cheeks for a BSS. Baby Smooth Shave!

But YMMV, so you may want to do something different with the settings!

    Good luck,

    Geo.

  • By going with three passes, how frequently do you shave per week?

  • @otzey

Normally, I don't shave every day, because I like to let my beard grow for a few days so that I can have some worthy stubble to mow down in an upcoming razor demo video.

After a clean 3-pass shave, I could usually skip a day, and still look presentable...

    Especially with this razor!

    Thanks,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy gotcha - I think my problem is that I try to shave down stubble which is already too long for smooth strokes. Could it also be that I should upgrade from my CVS brand DE blades and NIVEA shaving cream to make a significant difference in performance?

  • @otzey

    Yes Sir!!!

Get your razor around some nice quality blades like Astra, Feather, Shark, Derby, Sharp, Merkur, yada yada...

Also some great shaving cream as well... say anything that starts with a "T".

Like Trumper's, Taylor's, Truefitt & Hill, Or Proraso....(doesn't start with T, but still great)

Trust me, You will thank me!

    Enjoy!!!

    Geo.

  • I just cut my face to hell with the brand new Merkur my girlfriend got me. Thanks for the instruction. Gillette quattro ulimate vibrate it is not.

  • @jarrodhahn

Watch the rest of the vids, especially those on lather and face prep.

    It will only get better!

Soon you'll be boasting about how great your nick-free shaves have become!

    Cheers!

    Geo.

  • what's the story with the bandanna?

  • @mahabang

    Hmmmm?

No story, sometimes I wear 'em and sometimes I don't.

Have a Great Shave and Have a Great Day!

    Geo.

  • To Geo,

I replied earlier, Thanks for your reply. I was just enquiring. I want a double sided razor (Like a Merkur) but the Merkurs are expensive. Is there another brand that would be cheaper for a young guy starting to shave? (I'm 17 and from the UK).

    Thanks pal.

  • @darkmagicianmike

    Check out my site, shavenation.c o m

Click on Safety Razors, you can check out the selection of different razor at various prices.

Shipping to the UK is never a problem..

    Cheers!

    Geo.

  • Good review. I also think the initial cost of the Vision is off set by the cheap price of replacement blades, compared to what Gillette and other razor manufacturers charge for their multi blade cartridges.

Plus it makes shaving more of an 'event' !

  • @sean050483

    Thanks!

Many Gents are disgusted with the cost of multi-blade cartridge razors and are converting to the New/Old school method of shaving!

Yes, it is an eventful way to start the day, whatever time your day starts!

    Best,

    Geo.

  • Holy DE battle axe of death Batman!!!

    tempting...

I know that there are adjustable razors that perform just as well but in a much smaller size. Why do you think Merkur made this thing so big?

  • @shavefan12

One of the mysteries of the universe, I guess!

    There's someone for everyone, right?

I guess the same concept holds true with safety razors...

For someone who likes a more substantial razor, it would fit the bill nicely.

Maybe Thor could wield this instead of his Hammer... If he doesn't mind twisting it 13 times to open it!

    Geo.

  • Holy DE battle axe of death Batman!!!

    tempting...

  • @shavefan12

Hah! I agree, this would be something that Batman would pull out of his "Utility Belt" to lay the Beat Down on the Joker, Penguin, or Mr Freeze!!! (Sorry Arnold)...

Then again, it would come in quite handy in taming the Cat Woman!!! Meow! Purrr!!!

    It is quite the weapon!

    Geo.

  • Hey Geo,

Nice videos! I have been using the Merkur HD (173) and it was great experience and i never looked back since. However, i gave mine to someone, and now I'm teased towards the Vision, or Futur.

I would like to hear your suggestion, would u recommend me to upgrade to one of these heavier tools, or does the HD has more advantage of maneuvering?

Waiting your reply, thanks in advance!

    Best

  • @brhoome

    Thanks!

They're both great razors, keep in mind that the larger the razor, the more difficult to get into tight places such as under the nose.

The Futur has a snap on blade keeper which is fast and easy.

The vision requires approx 13 turns to open it & 13 to close it...

It's really a matter of personal preference as these are also both adjustable razors and your old HD was not...

Take a gander at the Edwin Jagger EJ89 which is a fantastic everyday non-adjustable shaver as well! Geo

  • OMG This Safety Razor is Huge, Looks Like A Hammer, Hope NYPD cops don't walk in when i have that in my hand, I'm sure to be shot 50 Times, Nice Video on That MERKUR Vision Safety Razor, Keep up the good work GeoPhatboy :o)

  • @ERVARGASNY

    Hah!!!

    That's a good one...A 20 oz Carpenters Hammer, almost!!!

It is definitely a bit more difficult to maneuver under your nose and on your chin area...

If someone breaks in while you're shaving you would have no problem protecting yourself with this beast!

It is definitely a substantial piece of shaving equipment!

    Take care Brother!

    Geo.

  • Great video. Thanks!

  • @powermugu

    Thanks a lot!

    G.

  • Its official today was my last day of using cartidges razors i just ordered a parker 22 r w/10 free blades and Paraso shave cream they both got 4-1/2 out of 5stars on amazon.com hope every 1 was rite that these kind of products produce a better shave pce

  • @kantelier

    Nice!

The fat guy in the red suit brought me a Parker 99R which is is a substantial sized razor and also a Muhle 89R, which I believe to be a top-notch razor, so I'll have some new demo videos out soon.

    Good luck with the 22R.

    Geo.

  • have you ever used the merkur 1904 replica of gillete it got good reviews i might buy that one

  • @kantelier

Sorry, I've not used the 1904 Replica of a Gillette razor. I don't own one.

    Geo.

  • Is the Merkur HD the 23c? What is "HD" about it? is the whole thing heavy, or is it just the head of the razor that is heavier? how does the weight and feel compare to the gillette fatboy?

Have you ever used any Progress razors?

  • @salazch12

    Hi Sal,

The Merkur HD is a 34C.

Yes, you could say that it is similar to the Gillette Fatboy in size and weight.

The main difference is that the Fatboy is adjustable and the HD is not.

So, maybe the Fatboy to Merkur Progress razor would be a closer comparison.

I also have a video using the Progress Razor if you are not familiar with it.

    Best regards,

    Geo.

  • Waouh, this razor seems really heavy... I recently received a Merkur 43c, also a heavy razor (at least 150 grams). Less futuristic than the Vision, but more contemporary-looking than a HD. I'm quite satisfied with it. Wet shavers looking for a heavy razor with the HD standard head may want to try it.

  • @wizzie47

Thanks for the recommendation Wizzie, I don't own the 43C, but it looks like a nice shaver!

  • Good day sir Geo. Quick question your highness, since it's winter over here. What would you recommend after the shave? Balm lotion or just after shave splash? Btw i'm still using the Persona DE blades i got from the starter package, i'll make go with the Feathers once i'm a Jedi in the shaving world and you're more than welcome to use my "Rave about the Shave" catchphrase lol! I see you're into motorcycles too, I used to own a Yam R6 until the GF came along :-( Happy Shaving and Cheers mate!

  • @TheAdmiral1976 G'day Bro Admiral! Don't feel like the Lone Ranger Mate! It's winter over here too, Hah! I woke up to snow on the ground this morning.... During the cold winter months, I definitely prefer and recommend using an after shave balm, instead of a splash on lotion... I feel that it provides an invisible layer of protection to shield my face from the elements! Alcohol free (like Proraso) even better! I also like Trumpers Skin Food. Seems they even give the face a nice glow! Best! Geo
  • Waasuuupppp!!! Geo. Hahaha! tell me bout it man but it is a good investment because after all it's quality and a luxury piece of kit. Thanks for the tips again bro and let's rave about the shave lol! Happy shaving and have a great day.

  • @TheAdmiral1976

    Sir Admiral,

    "Rave About The Shave" Hmmmmmm......

    I Like It!!!

I might request your permission to use it myself!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • @geofatboy why is that thing so big?..yeah thats what she said..LOL..but really..my 1934 gillette gets the job done

  • @5tonyvvvv

    Yeah, It's a real beast!

Because of its size, it's easy to hang on to...

But more difficult to navigate under the nose.

Kind of like dragging a miniature snow shovel across your face! Ha!

    Take Care,

    Geo.

  • Yo! Geo. The Admiral here. Got my Merkur HD, badger, cream and blades kit....Wow like a knife through butter mate, the closest shave i've ever had in years, had a few nicks due to muscle memory from the Fusion days and a bit heavy handed but at 30* degrees the right angle. I now look forward to my next shave, it's no longer a chore more like a hubby lol. Geo F. Trumper is also in Jermyn street literaly 200 yards from Taylors. Also ordered the feathers blades i'll keep u informed. All the best!

  • @TheAdmiral1976

    Yo admiral wassuuuppp!!!!

It's probably a good thing for me (and my pocketbook) that I don't live very close to those fabulous shops!

    Trumper/Taylor/Truefitt the 3 T's...of wet shaving...

Glad that your shaves are improving!

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • Hey, Geo. Big shout from London. with luck my Merkur 34c HD should be arriving tommorow, i'm a bit nervous but having seen the light after all the hype with Fusion tech there's always something special about true old fashioned ways. Just been to the Taylor's HQ in Jermyn street, i class it paradise for shaving lovers alike, an Aladdins cave and it's travelling back in time. Thanks for the tips, you're already a Legend sir. Happy shaving and i'll keep you posted on my first pass lol.Cheers mate.

  • @TheAdmiral1976

BIG UPS to you from the US!!!

I'm with you mate, just because something isn't the latest technological breakthrough, doesn't make it bad...

Sometimes the old way is the best way...

Taylor's HQ in London, Man, I'm jealous!!! I'd be like a kid in a candy store, no doubt. Probably max out the credit cards! lol.

Legend? I've been called worse. ha ha!

    Thanks for the kind words.

Watch the vids/apply the techniques, you'll be a PRO in no time!

Take Care & keep me informed!

    Geo.

  • Im getting my first double edged razor in a few days and I gotta say, your videos have helped a lot! Kind of off topic, but have you ever used cartridge razors? What did you think of them?

  • @tehfear

Many years ago I used a cartridge that had 2 or 3 blades on it.

I didn't care much for it...pulling, tugging, ouch!

I also tried an electric razor for a while but it never did a good job on my neck and was useless if my skin was the least bit wet or humid on hot says...

I remember that I used to get a lot of razor burn and ingrown hairs.

I'm happy with a straight or safety razor.

I still look forward to, and enjoy my shaves!!!

    Best Regards.

    Geo.

  • im not going to lie i just bought a safety and im scared to use it haha so im just going to go for a one pass on the whole face for the first 2 weeks and then work my way to going against the grain(thick beard).

  • @AcanadianCitizen

Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid !!! LOL Just Kidding....

That's what I like to hear, A man with a plan!

Try the first pass with the grain, North to South, then, as you build up your skill (and courage) try the across the grain passes, eventually when you become more proficient, you can go for the against the grain, South to North pass.

View my vids on Best Lather and Shave prep & apply those techniques. Use a brush & some nice shaving cream.

    Welcome to DE shaving!

    Best,

    Geo.

  • lol, thanks for the show. but if you do too many 'passes' you might clip your nose!!! or your ear lobe.

    haha

  • @ppl00125

I'm not sure how to respond to that "clip" comment. lol !!!

(I think it's just short for: "I sliced it so bad I had to call Dr House M.D. to stitch it back up")

I guess it's just an expression I came up with.

Hope you like the vid and it helps with your shaves!

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • Sean.

    Sorry about your nick-stravaganza.

Please watch my videos an Best Face Prep & Lather and apply those techniques.

Make sure your beard is warm and moist and use a good shaving cream!!!

If you're using a solid razor like a Merkur HD, Vision, or Futur don't apply too much pressure.

If it is a cheap plastic safety razor, toss it and invest in a quality razor.

Instead of against the grain, go WTG (with grain) AXG (across) and AXG (across the other way)

See my vid: How to with HD Razor.

  • Geo, I used this technique last night and nicked myself a bunch of times. I have never been nicked so much, i had atleast 10 pieces of paper on my face. Is going directly into the grain on the 3rd pass really recommended to get such a close shave? The only place I was fine going against it was near my sideburns. Once I went underneath my jaw line it hurt and got some crazy razor burn.

What is your recommendation for this? thanks Sean

  • did you nick your throat some at 6:50

  • @godfather200185

    Yes Godfather, Guilty as charged!!!

I think it might have even been before the 6:50 mark. Yes, it still happens once in a while, but it's amazing how quickly they disappear...

Remember, "If you don't do anything, you can't do anything wrong"!

    Hope the vids help you!

Have a Great Shave and Have a Great Day!!!

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • ur reviews are so clear an in depth i looking to get a safety razor. ive using disposable for years im im getting older an the satrting to loose me baby soft skin. im thinkin gettin the merkur but not sure on weather the futur or vision. the only thing is putting me off is the fact there is no grip on the handles. any reconmendation wot one u go for

  • @ADILPROUD

I just received the Futur and will probably be doing a review of it in a couple of days. Maybe after you view the video, you can make a more educated decision. I will be sure to put the Vision and the Futur (and probably a few others) side-by side for you so you can compare them.

    Best Regards,

    Geo.

  • @alan11355

    Thanks!

Shaving really is a personal thing and if this technique works for you, Great!

I would definitely recommend the Vision to anyone. Just keep in mind that it is most likely going to be larger than whatever safety razor you are currently using.

If you are of a larger stature, or just like something substantial to shave with,

    Go For It!!

Keep in mind that it is heftier and will be more difficult to shave your philtrum (under the nose area)

Let me know how you like it!

    Geo

  • What about shaving cups bowls etc?

  • @pittston57

Check out one of my other videos entitled Best Lather for Shaving with a Straight or Safety Razor.

I talk a bit about shaving bowls and mugs.

If you are on a budget, you can use a nice ceramic soup bowl or mug to mix your cream. Don't tell your wife/girlfriend and make sure you wash it and put it back in the cabinet, before she gets home. If you are not on a budget, the sky's the limit !!! LOL.

Thanks, and Good Luck to You!

    Geo.

  • many thanks, you have helped me a great deal, i now use a safety razor, a straight blade and a shavette. Thanks for the help

  • @jamesfoote1966

    AWESOME!!!

    You made my day!

I own and alternate between the Straight, Safety, and No Sharpen Razor.

It's actually fun to use each one and see how proficient you can be with it.

The Safety I have mastered to a point where it's very natural and easy to perform.

The Straight is more of a challenge because it requires concentration and a light touch so as not to cut your skin.

The No-Sharpen razor is always seriously sharp and requires utmost attention.

    Have a great shave!

  • do your thang

  • @TKD730

    A'IGHT

    I'll Keep on Keepin' on!!!!

  • Nice man ! Hope you came soon with another vids! Mike

  • @torquefactory

I will have something new for you later this week!

    Best Wishes,

    Geo

  • I dont care what anyone says! Your videos are the BEST on Youtube!!
