A senior member of my family was a past master of a Masonic lodge, and told me that the "G" stands for "God". Then again, one thing that I've never been able to get out of this family member is WHAT are the Masons really about. This person, in my experience, is a master of deception, misinformation, and dismissive responses to "uncomfortable" questions. Sorry, steveno76, but I've gotta disagree strongly with you about the Craft being benevolent. All the secrecy supports my conclusion, as well.
The "G" stand for "generativity" with the V representing the female and the and the compass representing the male energy.
Of course the compass also represents the skilled trades that are all a part of Free Masonry, but the 1st three degrees of the Blue Lodge are just the bottom of the pyramid.
Check out the other 96+ degrees that Masons say don't exist. Yah, right!!
