the should put songs from 50's, 60's, 70's and the 80's on the radio and the music channels all the time such as Buddy Holly, Gary Numan, Shania Twain, because i'm sick of the new crap what they put on these days like jls
It is easy to make fun of 1980s pop, but for a generation that loathes nostalgia, I can only pray that this and other great tracks of the early MTV era survive.
thing is there is some good music today its just that the record companies that are all in league with each other, corrupt and part of a larger media-wide agenda heavily push mainstream dumbed down music, as part of a larger plan to dumb down the population.
Music died in the middle 90's,ever since vinyl went music died it has'nt been the same since. The 80's were a great time for music with the likes of the thompson twins, wham, and duran etc. The artists made a lot of money with most band touring in the u.k. two to three times a years, and releasing an album every 18 months at the most. I remember seeing bands like spandau, the cure, paul young, wham, thompson twins and duran in the june and they always had a winter tour as well.
I grew up in the 80's. The 50's-80's were the greatest decades for music! When music was music, not the packaged crap of the post 90's of Stock Aitken Waterman, boy bands, X-Factor etc. Where people just jump around and earn lots of money from doing nothing but having a clean cut packaged image. People could play instruments in those days!
Thank goodness! I just had an urge to listen to this song - just after 'Doctor Doctor' admittedly - & this was the first time I could find the original: the first four attempts leading me to the all-but-10-min extended (aka boring) version.
Recuerdos de los 80`s en Bogotá - Remembering the 80`s from Bogotá. Saludos a todos. Greetings to everybody!!! Very nice song!!! Bella canción. Belle musique.
You are definitely right. The music sucks today. I mostly to music from the late 60's the 70's and the beginning of the 80's. That was music you can listen to and understand. All except for a minute few like alicia keys everything else sucks.
Shuretihing; We all can make our own opinion, and debate the issue. music is ageless once is recorded. and will undoubtedly delight some and digust others. Yet , I love the eighties as much as the 1930's songs and todays remakes of great songs.
As somebody already mentioned it, music is tied with time. There are specific periods of time when good music was produced, and there are also the "dark ages" on music. We are living through one of those dark ages... how long will it take till some real talent appear... can't tell, but meanwhile technology is giving us the chance to enjoy good old classic tunes... enjoyed even by this new generation... ask MJackson!
fuck sake. why do people say new music is dead? yes of course not all of its good, but its music, it evolves, just because your not into the new generation of music, doesn't mean its junk, and i love red hot chili peppers + i love kanye west. stop going on + on about how music has gone dead, this isn't lyrically amazing is it?
@RachelAndOtherStuff Lyrics?. I think when people moan about modern music they're not talking about lyrics. They're talking about the melody, the tune of the song, the way it sounds. Personally I love music from the 70s and 80s but it's nothing to do with the lyrics.
25+ YEARS later, tunes like this are still the pinnacle of what good music was about. And it still holds the same emotional value from the first time we heard it. That can be said about the music of the 60s and 70s too. The 'music' of today doesn't come to mind 25 DAYS after it comes out.
Eevry time i check out one of those 80s hits which I would wait for on the raido, Tv until I get on a cassette, I reiterate thanks to Chand hurly and his co-worker for giving the world YouTube, the memory of world culture, art and everything else. The 80 will rule forever and will rock forever. The music atmosphere was incredible back then.competition was very very high. I must say, I like Thomson Twins' singer's voice very much.
@celestialframes I say to myself "you're just old" and don't want to change with the times blah blah .. and think maybe, I'm not the one hip. If someone is enjoying something, who am I to judge? Ahhh, but fuck it, . . I know I'm right.
Damn i love 80s music and thats coming from a 17 year old kid living in a world with garbage like lil wayne and lady gaga btw Crowded House Dont dream its over is the best song ever
Fantastic track but being 55 and having lived through the eighties there was as much rubbish about then as there is now. Wherever there is a perceived chance of making a quick buck out of the kids, rest assured , the scavengers will be there. Happened in the seventies also. Thanks for this though, love it. have a greeat day love light and peace.
Damn, this brings back some memories! :o This is fab,.. oh my god,.. memories, memories,... :o oh shit, I'm welling up here........ Bloody hell,.. :o.... Ok so the music's not Pink Floyd or U2, but it's what we remember with certain sounds, and this is bringing back heaps of memories. :)
I totally love this song !! What an awesome group from the 80's!! Such great memories come with this song and the other songs from this era. I remember hanging out with my friends at the park or swimming or roller skating at the roller rink to all these songs. The best times of my life for sure. I sure do miss those days. Wish I could go back and relive them. I would appreciate it way more than i did then!! At least i still have my memories and the music to listen to today. Missing the 80's!!!

Yes, music is dead. When I hear the junk on the radio today I want to run or put a gun to my head.
Everything is about "how fast can we get something together", keep producing more and more garbage instead of taking the time require to get it right.
Today, most musicians, producers, and engineers are not getting anything right.
I'm just glad I have my huge collection with I started around 1973. I don't need to listen to or care about the crap today.
@GaryNull : I agree Gary. I was 10 years old when I started noticing songs in the late 80's. They were the best then, I say they are still my favorites now.
@n8tureboy And today's music is annoying to listen to, it actually annoys me.
But kids today listening to music have no idea of what is good or bad, .. they just want to be "in", or cool, or hip, and go with what everyone else is listening too. LIke you, I tried listen to it, but it is just so bad, . everything about, .. the playing, producing, engineering, writing, . .. just horrible. I guess the music from the past spoiled us.
@GaryNull Ya I notice that with my kids. Bands don't have the following and the passion we had. It quickly changes from one band to the next with no soul, no loyalty, no more art. Maybe rock is dead. Did we grow up in it's zenith? Will it be regulated to the dustbin of history like swing, the big band era, and disco? I kind of think so based on what's going on now. Most middle class kids are bumping to rap now. You never hear rock anymore.
@schlabresfan , No, it will come back. Swing, Big Band, come on that was always boring garbage. Swing is fun to dance to but its not really music to be listened to. This is a great song. Not saying all the nonsense from the 80s will endure but the good 5% will, just like every decade. Your kids are still thinking of it as their parents music. Your kids arent ready for it because it was your music- but your grand kids are going to love it.
@GaryNull I would almost say that music (and the arts in general) are often tied with the times....after years of neoliberal economic policies that supported mindless free-market consumerism and waste....it almost makes sense that today's "artists" are nothing but glamour-hungry robots. Music isn't dead. Pop is dead. There may be hope, however, in the fringe....
@GaryNull Which is my FM tuner in my car is rarely used. It's usually my iPod I hook the radio up to to protect my ears. No more artists, but posers who prefer keeping up appearances and shaking their butt on stage.
@GaryNull I am close to breaking point over seeing comments like yours. Yes, there is lots of crap music in 2011. But there was also a lot of crap music in 1973. There are still hundreds and hundreds of artists producing quality music nowadays. Unfortunately, not many of them get played on the radio. Or maybe just the stations you listen to. Please stop looking like a pretentious asshole proclaiming the 'death of music'.
most of the groups looked and sounded like these the 80s were the best. i like some old stuff. but most radio stations still play a hell ovalot of 80s.oh yeah fab group and great tune.
One of the best songs of the 80s! Whenever I hear this, it inspires me to do anything I want, ANYTHING I WANT! Thanks for posting. The 80s rule! Those were the days. Nostalgia, nostalgia, and nostalgia!
I thin it is important to note at this time that perhaps not all 23 year olds use all caps like the chap above, but all folks with a remote ear for sound do enjoy the masterful output of this treat from the eighties.
THE 80S RULE!!! and the music is the biggest reason why! stoners wearing concert shirts and skin tight levis, preppies sporting 4 shirts at a time (and oh the plaid), geeks, jocks, high school keggers, big hair, bad clothes, good times.....aaahhh, when i die i'm not going to heaven, i'm going back to the 80s (one way ticket of course)!!!! does anyone want to join me?
Your welcome 240603777.Lets go to pet shop boys.West end girls/the 1st video of it on the youtube list after this song is over. You feel like a very nice person 240603777.
Your right about that again 240603777,great song and everything else is like you said.I like you and will keep listening alot. The "stay with me" helps.
Ha! that haircut has come right back to the people of shoreditch. Kind of like he's been through a hurricane and just sprayed it there. LOVE this song!
Sorry, they are lip-synching. I loved them back in the 80s, so I'm not trying to trash them. But this version here is EXACTLY how the album version sounds, vocals, instruments, everything. They are lip-synching. Hey, a lot, if not most bands have done it on TV shows at one time or another.
Dudes,Come-on they are not lip-synching,if they are so are all the singers on Youtube, its the videos the image is behind the lyrics. I do luv 80s music, much better than todays crap.

But like you, thankfully we now have YouTube to save us from the media morons that keep peddling this filth that they call music.
No composition, no arrangement, no one actually playing real instruments.
These modern 'entertainers' (used that word advisedly) are just cheap copies of the real musicians of yesteryear.
There's NO comparison.

this is proof that the 80's was the best for music and why so many young kids now like it

VERY TRUE I AM 23 AND ALWAYS LIKED THE THOMPSON TWINS AND THE 80s.
Chris242tt 3 years ago 5
I thin it is important to note at this time that perhaps not all 23 year olds use all caps like the chap above, but all folks with a remote ear for sound do enjoy the masterful output of this treat from the eighties.

This always reminds me of good times at home, even though my brother and I spent most of our time hating each other, but didn't we all.

Everyone Lip synched in the 80s..get over it.
Brickwall142 4 years ago 4
Sorry, they are lip-synching. I loved them back in the 80s, so I'm not trying to trash them. But this version here is EXACTLY how the album version sounds, vocals, instruments, everything. They are lip-synching. Hey, a lot, if not most bands have done it on TV shows at one time or another.

Yay Kiwis! And a few can even sing :)
velouria11 4 years ago
First off, no one in this video is singing, they are lip-synching, it is painfully obvious.
Secondly, no one in the band is from New Zealand, they are all British.
jetsanchEz 4 years ago
I stand corrected on them being British. The lip synching - who cares - but then I'm not a pedantic, ill mannered prat
velouria11 4 years ago
Typical response from a kiwi; having lived there, I am familiar with your in-grained nationalistic insecurities ;)

Hehehe that is cute thank you ;)

So good to hear this song again and how good were they??? Amazing how cool they still are after all these years.

The 12" single version of this was incredible. They ALWAYS did great 12" remixes of their hits.
