New designer myself i love tutorials-- they r ,my classes if u will. And I must say that ur video was very clear & to the point...thanks for that. i do have a question, can memory wire be used for this type of deisgn? do they come in gauges? & what gage should be used? Thanks in advance for ur help...
@jeanbcook Hi, I use 18, and sometimes 20 gauge nickel silver wire for my earrings. Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching!
Being a beginner, this was a great tutorial....easy to understand. Clear, cut and concise once the specifics were cleared up. I'd like to see a tutorial re: making the earwire shown. I've got the basic one down, but so far that's all I've seen (plenty of videos and varying ways, but the finished product is always basically the same).
@artisintheheart99 Thank you for your comments. For all of my earrings, I use pre-made surgical steel ear wires (or precious metals for some designs) which I've found to be the best solution.
Great video of the processes; I would point out the spelling (typos) in the titles of several of the procedures. If you can correct those mistakes, the video would be more professional. I can be more specific if you don't see them. Also, is the angle for the wire loop 45 degrees? It looked more like 90 degrees to me. Which is it and which works better?
@microfarmstudios Good question. The angle for the loop is actually 45 degrees in order to center the loop over the coil. If I made it 90 degrees, the loop would be too large to easily and attractively center over the coil. An approximate 45 degree bend is the best choice here. Thanks very much for your thoughtful comments.
Hi I would just like to say that your videos are great I am vision inpared and try to make jewellery. Your videos are very clear and you have great close up shots of what you are doing.
@MagikfireGems I am so glad they are of help. I have tried to show as much detail as I can so that they are easier to follow. Thanks for your comments!
Ross, I love watching your videos... you always have a helpful tip or suggestion and think outside of the box for solving problems, like the little gadget that you demonstrated for wrapping wire. I honestly love that little beast and am going to make several for myself. I like how you can grip it firmly while you wrap. I normally use knitting needles for my mandrels, but your solution is ergonomically and economically spot on!
Glad you like my videos. That simple tool really does help with making jumprings, and I make them using nails of different widths. I also have an improved version of it that you’ll see me using in my new videos.

It would be helpful to know what gauge the silver-nickle wire you use for your coils in the earings. thanks.

Thanks for watching my video! You can definitely make them larger, but I might use a slightly heavier gauge wire to do this.
