Now see, this is how slap bass should be played. It's not about the "oh hey look what I can do" mentality at the cost of groove; it's about being a fucking boss.
This guy is good, but if you want a standard for bassists, Google Stanley Clarke. He was doing all this 25 years ago, and is probably who Kevin Walker studied growing up.
@superque87 kevin is a good friend of mine and he's one of the baddest bass players in the country!! Marcus Miller was a big influence, but he is a all around great player from jazz, funk, rock etc...he also was one of the members of the band The Fonky Bald Heads, who toured with Prince also,he's a baddddddd mannnnnn
@hung0sowell Taking nothing away from your guy, but understand, Stanley Clarke's been around since the early 70's and is STILL hell on wheels. His band won the 2011 Grammy for contemporary jazz album. One of his early albums, School Days, is widely regarded as one of THE most important bass albums EVER. He goes from classical to funk, & doesn't just play bass, he's transformed it. Watch Stanley Clarke Wild Dog NSJ 2004. If you just want to see fireworks, go from 1:55 - 2:55.
you see , you are the problem with the world puto gringo malprido.el funk es de todos gonorrea picha... dont get into the web If all u want is english...boring language...
Watching Blackwell on an electric drum set is sad... It's like seeing Tiger play with a Fisher-Price golf set. I mean no one else could do it better, but plastic ain't the same people...lol
I swear this sounded like "Blue Matter" but... on some sorta crack... and moreover, some of this guy's chops have Chambers written all up and down em!
Hard to be a modern funk-fusion player w/o a little Dennis creeping in. But it was a cat in Atlanta--Marcus Williams--who Blackwell got his "master-class" stuff from.
Because el. drums is BIG BIG SHIT!!! You can put over natural instruments FX like chorus, distortion or amp simulators but you can't do imitation of real instruments (like el. drums, el. violins etc.) sounds and technical is not for prepering in this century ;)
Loakam, you've got some good points there..I love Prince, but all that crap about his image-rights and such (you're a public person man,go do something else if you don't like it anymore!),changin' his lyrics and the way he acts today?..He ain't my cup o' tea no longer, though I never imagined me saying something like that about one of my fav artists ever..Prince was cool in the 80's,a lil in the 90's maybe, but man,the man is lame these days..(on record, that is)
I really don't know why JT has basically Prince's, because JT isn't that kind of live performer that Prince is. I love Justin Timberlake's albums, but he is crap live. Prince is just the reverse..his latest albums are.."meh", but his live performances are Spectacular!
Actually yes. I went to the FutureSexLove Tour, when it hit the palace of Arburn Hills. It pales in comparison to Prince's Musicology Tour. For that matter, Prince's "1999 tour" absolutely blows it out of the water! Just stating my humble opinion. For the record, Justin Timberlake is the ONLY artist, that I respect and admire, musically now-a-days.
ya but hes not "crap" live..he does put on a good performance..he makes everybody a part of the show..well the last part of your comment i agree :)..only one with a sense of humor
I agree, Justin Timberlake is a very down to earth person. A upcoming singer on youtube did a version of his song, "What Comes Around Goes Around", I think her name is Indree..or something like that, well, anyway, he liked her singing so much, he flew her to his recording studio, and sung a duet with her. Prince on the otherhand, is a arrogant asshole, becuase he would have had his lawyers threatening her account, and have youtube mute, or pull the video down.
seriously..you can't find one video with prince in it anywhere on youtube..and her names esmee..i don't think he made a good decision by choosing her..there are plenty of youtube artists covering his songs better than her but oh well
I don't know Bill O'Reilly and I call him a asshole too! It's my opinion, so I will call who-ever,what-ever,how-ever, and as often as I damn well please. (Prince is a pint sized asshole.)
Electric are great for this, a practice session where you don't need everything to be loud, the major draw back of electric drums is you have to sit there and do a lot of sound editing to get them right, and then if your sound engineer doesn't like that hes gonna tell you to change it.
yeah electric drums are really only good for maybe studio recording (not professional) to minimize leakage and for places that u cant have loud drums like our church.
It'd be nice to see Justin Timberlake come up with his own thing. His first album was an attempt to be Michael Jackson and his second was an attempt to be Prince even getting Prince's band mates to tour with him. IE: John Blackwell and Mike Scott (NPG) and Kevin Walker (Fonky Baldheads) The band rocks, but JT get original.
