  • Well...I'll be damned! I just hauled a rusty piece of shit just like this out of the dumpster! I had to scrub the thing numerous times with Lysol just to get the mud, leaves, and garbage smell out. Must have been abandoned outdoors. She runs! Mine is peach in color though...maybe the paint faded? All speeds work perfect! It really saves the day for the summer heat! Older is better than newer!

  • I got a s223 2nd gen lakewood at a habitat for humanity in lexington va when i was 12 years old im 19 now at the time i did not know it was a lakewood or what a lakewood was i just saw it by a pile of cloths and junk and i asked how much i got it for 2.42 or somthing like that its funny the dam thing still works to this day every time i got up for summer vacation i put it in my window

  • Hey Spats! The video to my S-223 is finally up! Check it out!

  • Great news Spats! I now finally have one of these myself! It has the Westinghouse motor like yours does but it's a 1976 model and has the later style motor just like Emerson's S-223. A video of that fan and others are to come soon.

  • do i spy a Lakewood Kmart K14X in the one pile?? i swear it is but i didnt know u got one

  • Terracotta Orange is the best color for the 1st gens.

Beige with white blades is the best color for the 2nd gens.

  • Your cat is so cute.

  • Okay. Now why are my comments getting downrated? I didn't say anything bad that I know of. Im just saying that I'm glad that spatsbear now has this fan. I know I tried to go for this and had to drop out for money situations but I really am glad that it's now in the hands of a really good friend of ours. That's all I was trying to say.

  • Nice one Spatsbear. I remember seeing this one on ebay but it was too expessive for me. Besides I want one like this with a McMillan motor.

  • EDIT: mcmillan was started sometime after 1965 lakewood used Remond, GE and a few other motors up till then, then they used Mcmillans and still used GEs on their window fans and some of the early P23s etc. but not after 74. in that time they still used Fasco motors soemtimes and after 74 mcmillan moved and they used the westinghouse motors here, but never changed the model in the cabinet after in 76 and 77 the westys were stoped and mcmillans used again ,and Marcos too here and there to the 80s

  • Oh damn that is fucking sweet!!

I am gonna find one of these some day! Some day!!

  • Just a bit of information. I believe S stood for stand which these square cabinet fans were meant for, the roll around stand. P probably stands for portable. That is my guess though. Westinghouse made really really good motors though. My 20" Air King has one rated at 3 amps to turn those massive blades. As for the G.E. motors, they probably stopped using them some time in the late 60's. Lakewood also used Marco Electric motors, my Kmart has one.

  • S could also be for Square too, thats what i allways thought

  • you and emmerson get along well seem to have the same intrests

  • Nice video! I had one of these in Harvest Gold!

  • Harvest Gold FTW :)

  • That is a Nice Lakewood Spatsbear. 5**** for a great video!.

  • on my P237-W the sticker says P237 on the bottom, and i belive this was because they normally used mcmillan motors wich moved during this time so they used the westinghouse motors, and maybee they never changed over the stickers, but that is why they used the westing house motor. after 75 they went back to the mcmillan when they opened back up

  • That is neat to know...

Now you have me wondering: What about the fans with the GE motors?

  • that im not 100% sure on but i belive mcmailland was started after 1965 and they uesed GE Fasco , and a few other motor companys till then, but they still used GEs on the window fans and soem of the reuglar P23s till the early 70s no later the 74 i belive. but thats what i know

  • Oh hey! I have a Torcan box fan from 1974 very similar to that one, but mine's tan.

But mine's got a warped blade so it vibrates a bit, and it's a little on the loud side lol

Sounds just like youe Lakewood/Country Aire/Westinghouse though.

  • Reminds me of some early radio manufactures. They grabbed the parts they had handy. Neat Fan!

  • Nice! Very nice!

And you are right about the Penncrest being weird! Mine's weird with the yellow gold color, but it's my favorite fan! Go figure!

Thanks for the show & tell!

  • OMG that distinct sound that fan makes!I havn't heard in years. We had that fan in baige, my gram gave it to mom/dad lasted like 13-14years. At the end we would have to use a pen to get it going and it sounded like a chicken for like 3min.I know now it was probly the bearings but I was 6 when it stopped completely.

  • It may have been the motor was never oiled as well...

I've rescued a few fans out of the trash doing what you just described.... Putting in some fresh oil brought them back to life. I have yet to get one with a bad bearing.

  • also i should say that the blade is harder to get off of a westinghouse motor.

  • i was told the reason they made the S lakewoods is because they were cheaper to assemble

  • as the official First gen lakewood king. i welcome you to the club of First Gen S223s!!!!!! im glad u got this fan man, it looks great, i was thinkign aobut this one but i figured i have mine, but this one is weird for sure, but very cool

  • i love that song! it is so funny

  • Shnazzy. That sux it has one piece of the grille broken off. Awesome fan!

  • Mint, In the Box.

This fan will go perfect in your shag carpet room. :)
