Tip for people: cats adopt people, and this can cause you not to be able to slaughter them later on if you need meat or your frame rate is failing because of the cats. Instead get ferrets, as they do the same things as cats and you can kill them easy. (turkeys are also better at fighting then guard dogs.)

5:16 That is the most efficient cat I've ever seen. Not 10 minutes into the game and he's already got a neatly stacked pile of rat skeletons. Lol. I've never seen that (suspected) glitch.

How do i make my dwarves do tasks, they are not listening. My miners will not mine and i have set up a place for them. They mined some area then stopped and haven't started since.

DF has been around longer than MC, and MC took a lot from DF in the first place. But yes, this is a meticulous mix of simulation and RTS elements. Though you don't control your people directly, you do designate what needs to be done. The main points of this game are random world creation, including a massive history, water/magma/cave physics, and full micromanagement of all dwarves, which have individual personalities and desires, down to their favorite type of furniture.

it took me about 2 hours to find out how to go up a level and down a level... apparently i have shift+5 to up and ctr+5 for down... (went over almost every single key binding in options to find it when i got pissed enough, even there its hard to determine which is the binding for it)

Okay I have a couple of questions. What graphics modification are you using? and How do you make your title screen full screen. I edited my init text to make it full screen but it only does it within the game

My woodcutter in your save won't quit fishing! Is there something else I can do to force him to cut wood?

@tfine80 Sure, part 5 covers migrants and changing labors. Your wood cutter really should stop fishing, but you can either disable his fishing labor or tell somebody else to be a woodcutter. If you still can't cut wood, your probably didn't designate it properly.

@Legiongaming It is a simulation game. Like any sim game, you see how long you can keep a "base" running before it dies a horrible death. In DF this could be by accidental flooding, magma leaks, goblin siege, wild animals, digging just a little too deep... Many incidents are quite unexpected and friggin hilarious. It is sandbox and meticulous and detailed in design and micromanagement and is obviously not for everyone, but if you like that sort of thing, I recommend giving it a go.
