Yeah I'm buying an AMD Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition (2.8GHZ Dual Core) For 70 bucks...

And yes, the "AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz" Processor comes very close to the core i7s Intel is offering up, only thing is, you can get this chip from AMD for under 300 bucks!

I think that Intel is getting a little too carried away, kind of like Bose did.

AMD is to Intel, as Sennheiser is to Bose.

(Basically AMD is much better for price:performance and quality)

The i7 is a very good processor, if somebody were to give me one, I'd probably have an aneruism.. But the truth is, it costs $1,024.99 USD, or $1,250 CAD. That is just too much for most people.

As for the performance part, according to Guru3d, a respected computer hardware review/preview site, benchmarks on both the 975 and the 955(AMD) show that game performance wise, the gain is miniscule, only wins by a few frames in games like Crysis.

However, when it comes to the memory reading/writing..

The Intel 975 blows the AMD 955 out of the water. The Intel gets a good 20,000 mb/s read/write speed compared to the AMDs 8000mb/s read/write speed.

However, what honestly need to read and write to the memory that fast anyways? I've been running good old DDR2 for some time now, and a read/write speed of about 4000mb/s with no problems.

So basically, the 975, is good for a few things, software developing and encoding, having a bigger e-penis, and leaving a dent in your wallet.

Although, what kind of market are we talking about here? For the average joe who's just wanting to do some gaming, the 955 is a WAY better choice, considering it is almost 1000 dollars cheaper (In canada anyways)

But if you are a large company, or you have a deep wallet, the 975 is probably the way to go, however, you're going to have to also dive into the high end market of ALL your other computer components, to avoid bottlenecking.. Which is going to cost you even more =/

Oh sorry, there was a typo, the i7 has a read write speed of 16000mb/s, NOT 20,000mb/s.

The 20,000 MB/s was from when the memory was overclocked. The non overclocked was only 16000mb/s. Which is still pretty decent. (It was Triple Channel DDR3)
