I think the pics are oké but you may want to touch up on your texturing a bit (though it 's all meant to be single-color because the models are from games etc. i.e. it's not about realism or anything).
Have you considered cell shading? It's quite easy in pov-ray using the slope{} function. Since you're a programmer you could also write a program that will draw lines around the contours in the image giving it a really cartoonish impression. I did both and I have great results. Nice vid!
With most of these pics I was trying for a non-cartoon look. The textures do need improving but the main concentration was on the posable models which is really difficult with basic shapes. But thanks for your help, I'll be sure to try out the slope function.
I mathematically recreated the slope function because I needed it, but I didn't know it already existed in pov-ray. If you know basic calculus it's about 15 minutes of work.
I usually use textures to make my pics look really good in stead of extensive modelling. Recently, I made a mountain with a waterfall and river with just one texture for a still. I model for animations though. The difference is too obvious.
I'd have to upload it to my deviant art account. I haven't been there for a while. There is some older stuff on it though. I've been planning on uloading some so I guess I'll go and do that now. You can friend me if you want, that'd be nice.
This is so beautiful, all the images look professional, this is a masterpiece, great job mate. Wish I was as creative and smart as you (My I.Q. is about 122)
From a random perspective: These are pretty stellar, I like what you did with a lot of them.
From a 3D modeler perspective: These would be considered extremely outdated as far as 3D work goes... POV-Ray is practically useless these days.. 3Ds Max and Maya make the industry go round.
If Pov-Ray was practically useless then why do so many people use it? The fact is, it requires more skill to use Pov-Ray than more traditional modelling software in that you program rather than use the mouse. Pov-Ray is not useless, I've created 2D games with it and also used Pov-Ray to generate the textures for my 3D games.
cool nintendo should make a super mario 64 update whith more stars better graffics orher playable carecters and the option to ride yoshi now this would be fun!super mario 64 wii!
isn't super mario galaxy already the sequel? and super mario 64 ds? if you could ride yoshi it would be awesome but for something like "New Super Mario World"
This is a bit random, but do you think youmight make a Mario game, or a game like it? You know a lot about the game's set up language, and these pictures look like early beta pictures for a future game. Good pictures btw.
Thanks. I did a 2D Peach Mario game inspired by the pics I did. I'm also working on a 3D game but not Mario. I've been meaning to do this video for ages.
These are very well-made models. I liked the cubes and the spheres with the scenes from SM64 pasted on it, the metal cap level stage, and the Princess Peach Castle.
Have you considered using Blender? I'm currently using it for 3D modeling, and after a few tutorials, it's pretty easy to use. You could easily create amazing stuff with that program.
I have used Blender before. But as Pov-ray is a ray tracer it can produce the most realistic images-mine do not show what Pov-ray is really capable of. However, Pov-ray is not suitable for real-time graphics.
AMAZING! For a second there, I thought I was watching Avatar!
