  • LOL, all these good-for-nothing conspiracy nibiru illiterate freak hating on kufr72 and Karma01010

  • I think it equally important to realize that we have yet to prove that comets are gas-ice-dust. Every comet we have encountered for exploration has been other than just that. Comet Temple for example. I find it thrilling to learn this new information and reevaluate what I thought was this or that and draw new conclusions. With a little imagination involved it is almost as if The Sun was being protective.

  • @skyccxxiii I think you meant "With a little cocaine and lack of knowledge involved"

  • If the comet was 100km³ of pure water ice (or even some other lightweight gas) and all of it became water vapor while moving near the sun it would still not occupy the volume of planet Earth let alone twice the size of Jupiter which it clearly does in the video.

Whoever tells people that it's a small comet is not taking simple metrics into the equation.

There's no doubt that the object was much much larger than any asteroid or planet within our system.

  • the comet was twice the size of jupiter. the sun very clearly reacted to the approach of the comet in the form of a sun flare which changed the trajectory of the comet.. watch Nassim Haramein 32/45 for a more detailed explanation. learn the truth

  • @KUNGFUNINJAFISH If it was so big it we would have 100% felt it on earth, So why did it go unfelt?

  • it was creation hand

  • Give me a break! Comet Neat was a few miles across, didn't get closer than 75 million miles away and is due back after 37,000 years. This idiot talks rubbish! Anyone remember Comet Hale Bopp in the 90's? Closest it got in 1997 was 1.315 AU (1 AU = 92,955,807 miles from Earth (mean distance from Earth to the Sun)) and it was 80 miles across. This will be back in 4,700 years. I would worry more about asteroids. There is one coming, which has a 1 in 35 chance of hitting the Earth...2027-ish

  • YOU NEED TO ACCEPT THE NASA/JPL STORY.... IT WAS NOTHING MORE THAN SWAMP GASS REFLECTING LIGHT OFF OF VENUS DURING BALL LIGHTNING. IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING YOU FOOLS!

Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeealllly! You have to be on sodium flouride to think this was just a comet! Or on a government payroll!

  • i remember, it was around 2003 i think, there used to be pictures online of a red comet that looked like it had wings. I've searched for it a few times over the past 4 or 5 years and haven't come up with anything. I'd remember that comet anywhere, and all pictures of it have vanished. It might have been comet NEAT...(though it also might not)

  • The video has been tampered. Look attentively. The comet suddenly jumps close to the end of the footage. Strange!

  • It was Venus

  • it was planet x!

  • it's not small people..it's huge in fact almost the same size as the sun.

  • One exceptionally large comet, seen in 1729, may have had a core100 km across. I agree that a 300 km core or lager is possible.

However, that's still NOT EVEN CLOSE to the size of Jupiter, which is 142,984 km.

The claim that this comet was "as big as jupiter" in terms of mass or gravity is just not true.

  • We can estimate a comets mass from its orbit. Don't forget that we discovered Neptune and Pluto from their very tiny gravitational effects on the planets inward from them.

Any body even a fraction of Jupiters MASS in the inner solar system would give very noticeable effects on the orbits of planets. No such alteration has been seen. The comet was low mass.

  • Like many people in this thread have been explaining, over and over and over again, comets are LOW MASS, their solid centres are only a few km across, the surrounding coma is less substantial than a cloud floating by, why can't you grasp this? The SURFACE is a rock/ice body a few km across. For fucks sake learn some real astronomy.

  • zYBYL, yours is a fair and accurate point and of course you're talking in only "general" terms and to quote a comets ref: "Comets average diameters usually range from 750 meters (2,460 feet) or less to about 20 kilometers (12 miles). Recently, evidence has been found for much larger comets, perhaps having diameters of 300 kilometers (186 miles) or even much larger". So be open minded about the size of Neat being a few KM in size and keep an open mind, :-)

  • Zybyl, one other point to note that even NASA has not released thier estimations on the size of the core of Neat so stating a few KM across is inaccurate and misleading. Also consider for example in "general terms" Supanovas are approximatley the size of 20 suns though recently Nasa's Chandra craft observed on 150 tims the size of a sun, unless you have firm data to share your beliefs or comments do not make it true.

  • Saying it is "twice the size of jupiter" is very misleading. It's like saying a cloud is "twice the size of mount everest". Yes, a clouds VOLUME can be as big as a mountain, but its mass is only a tiny fraction.

Comets look big on these images, but they are very insubstantial. If you collected all the material in the coma and tail it would weigh very little. The coma and tail are transparently thin.

  • and now we are all scientists. Woa!

Go and read 20 books and then dedicate yourself to view and interpretate at least for 5 years comet videso and pictures. Complement it with other information received from satellites and then, you can be a little bit accurate in you analysis.

Good luck and check the nasa web page. They say that the SURFACE of the comet is almost twice the SIZE of JUPITER. Do you know what could do something like that to our planet at certain distance?? justify.

  • "Visible size" of comets and their "mass" are two different things. The part that appeared "twice the size of Jupiter" was the gas and dust surrounding the small solid core of the comet. This halo of gas and dust reflects sunlight, but contains very little mass, so thin we can see stars thru it! The solid core is only a few miles across.

Gravity depends on mass, not on visible reflective extent. Comets are low mass, low gravity. This comets mass and core were MINISCULE compared to Jupiter.

  • that's not right. It's nasa-probbed that this comet was twice the size of jupiter. You look like a clever guy, compare the surface of the little whithe circle in the center of the big circle. That´s the sun. review information and other videos in youtube. This comet was the size he says.

The halo is bigger than the sun diameter. the tail is at least 8 times the sun diameter displayed here as the white border circle. Believe me.

  • cjellwood. If you look at the database of soho comets, this one was nothing special in terms of mass. If you look at some close up photos of comets, you will notice that the tails are so thin you can see stars thru them. They contain little mass. Gravity depends on mass, not apparent size. (Terrestrial example; a cloud can be as large in extent as a mountain, but has nowhere near the mass)

  • As far as I see the tails are very bright here.

Secondly at the early stages when they discovered Neat, they speculated if it was a solid rock.

Third, this is one of the unknown comets in my life time, yet it is by far the largest, brightest comets ever. For me it is strange it is so unknown and unannounced in the media.

  • It was an ordinary comet. A small core, no more than a few km across. A large (but lightweight) gas-dust coma and tail. A trajectory entirely predicted by simple Newtonian Orbital Mechanics. It didn't budge from that trajectory in any way. The coronal mass ejection was coincidental and had no effect on its trajectory.

  • Where do you get your information???

  • @Karma01010 are you an expert??

  • @Karma01010 yes and fluoride is good for the teeth

  • No. It looks big to you because you don't understand what the picture is showing you. It is possible to learn this if you're willing to educate yourself.

  • ok I am all ears for this education. What I see here is a mass going around the sun which is 50 times larger than other comets seen doing the same thing recently. Gas cloud or no gas cloud, it is still huge. Please provide facts, not just general criticism

  • its actually twice as big as jupiter..so educate yourself please.. in my opinion thats big

  • It's critically important to distinguish between volume and mass when we're talking about "big". The volume is huge--precisely because it's so close to the sun--but the mass is on the smallish size for a comet.

My visceral, perhaps unfair, reaction was based on a number of fools looking at this and deciding it must be Nemesis, or Nigiri, or whatever the hell the secret planet is that the Mayans knew about and is going to kill us all in 2 years, or whatever BS it is they're spouting.

  • @LLadam2k8. Its a SMALL COMET, you moron, not a brown dwarf. A chunk of rock and ice a few miles across. A brown dwarf is billions of time bigger. The large VISUAL size of this Comet, and all comets, is due to the cloud of gas surrounding the nucleus, evaporated off the surface by the heat of the Sun. The cloud is huge but the comet itself is tiny.

  • @Karma01010 how can you determine the size of this comet?

  • Learn about astronomy, especially (for your case) planetary astronomy. It's awesome, and answers exactly those kinds of questions.

  • In a world where we say "Science explains all" yet we're still trying to find a cure for cancer, and your telling me that some Sci-FI science that acts like it created the universe can explain to me why that comet was two times the size of jupiter and why the search for the extra solar planet suddently stoped in 19xxwuteva with no explanation then im sure i can take your word for it!

  • You find a world where people who actually know something about science say that it "explains all", and then you go argue with those people.

There is a great deal of information about the size, shape, constituents and dynamics of comets. You are not looking at anything remotely out of the ordinary.

Your claim about the search for extrasolar planets stopping is ludicrous. The number of extrasolar planets discovered continues to climb (it's now well into the hundreds).

  • no no my friend,no just any extra solar planet man, "the extra solar planet" the one many know about but do not want to admit they exist! you know the one im talking about, why did that search stoped?heh, anyways dont answear...

  • No, I'm going to answer, because I want to make the point to anybody else who might read through this thread that you, @mariusthq, seem to believe in some idiotic conspiracy theory for which there is zero evidence and that nobody sane believes. There is no merit to what you say, and people should know that.

  • The halo of gas around this comet was "as big as Jupiter", but the mass at the centre was no bigger than other comets. A few miles across. Containing very little mass. The CME did not push it away. Its trajectory remained unaltered. We were not in any danger. Real astronomy is fascinating enough. Why do some people feel the need to make up these STUPID conspiracy theories?

  • they didn't broadcast this because they thought we were toast, that comet is twice the size of jupiter and they thought it was going to hit the sun, the solar flare pushed it off course and luckily for us it missed.

  • the Awesome CME made my day

  • It's crazy they say that the cme was caused to push the comets away,

in another video documenting the sun it

explains the 2003 sun spot wave nova but, in that documentary it didn't explain that it pushed the coment away.

They said the wave in which the sun emitted destroyed sattelites and damaged a few other space crafts,

and blew out a few minor power transmitters back down here on Earth.

My only thing is...didn't they broadcast the whole situation on telivision at all?

  • I remember it very well... powerful event, wish I could turn back time ;)
