If you install on C or D you will erase everything on that partition.
It is a little harder in XP because XP doesn't have a built in partition tool like Vista does. You can download an ISO tool called GParted(google it), that will allow you to shrink a volume and create the "unallocated free space" that you need for dual booting.
They are both right, Kubuntu uses KDE and Ubuntu uses GNOME. Right now I am using Mandriva as my main linux distribution and would actually suggest that. Installing is very similar to the way you install ubuntu and kubuntu.
im trying to install it in a dual boot with windows 2k... i cant shrink my C drive... would i just be better off taking off windows and just installing linux? i don't realy care about windows on this laptop.
You can use GParted(google it) to get the space if you want. As for getting rid of Windows I would normally say no if it is your first run but since it is 2k*cough* and you don't really care about it I'd say go ahead.
Run linux from the Live CD first to make sure the computer can handle it though.
of course. The windows vista partition tool will only work with up to 4 partitions. After that you should look into GParted. Since you only have 2 it will be fine.
hi its me again. when I go to my Computer & hit manage. you where showing how to shrink the C drive smaller. I cant find shink button to do that. Im on Windows XP. keep in touch me me
Did you go to my website? I explain in the writeup that this is for Vista only and to do it in XP it takes a little more work. Check out my website and read my all my linux post there(website in the sidebar), also make sure to check out the newest video I just put up about Wubi.

yea i tried to install ubuntu on it and it needed 256MB of ram my system only had 253MB lol
so now i'm gonna install xubuntu...
but how do i uninstall ubuntu if i cant even get into it? i already installed it
gamecuberulers 2 years ago
No need to uninstall. Just stick the xbuntu disc in and install over it :) , these new GUIs are really upping the requirements to run Linux.
