I NEVER get tired of this song, especially when I hear it by the group that did it originally. To me, the Manhattan Transfer is by far one of the best vocal groups in the business. Their harmony is tight and anything they do sounds good. I'd love to see them live. I pray that one day main stream music really gives them the props they deserve!
I dont know why is this considered a version when it is clearly the Original.. Give MT the credit for the song. Anita Baker might have done a more popular version of this song, but this is no version
This song was written by Rod Temperton who wrote several selections that Karen Carpenter recorded for her solo album...his tunes work well for the "tight harmonies" that Karen used in her backing vocals and Manhattan Transfer...definately a "spine tingling" effect.
They did this far before Anita Baker did hers...I had the album. This is what I want to here, it seems more pure. I miss that album, there was some good songs on it.
@5712bklyn my sentiments exactly. It's more purity in it. Seems like Ms. Baker really tried to outdo the original and perhaps she did but the true Manhattan Transfer fans didn't really buy the other version! : )
@ronin752 perhaps you didn't read my comment right and maybe I was rushing but I said in two comments that this is better...after all I had this very album. I never liked Ms. Baker's version. At any rate, it's all just matters of opinion. Some people love Anita's the best too. Peace.

I really like Anita Baker, but Manhattan Transfer does a much better version of "Mystery"!

Great song. I had made a video for this one but youtube blocked the sound for copyright reasons. What a pity...

My favorite version! What a bitter-sweet chorus!

With all due respect, I have collected songs of Anita Baker, but this version is 200xs better. The harmony, the guys & gals, ENOUGH SAID!!!

Naw, Imma have to disagree with you. Everytime I heard Anita's version, it was a BIG disappointment. This was just better.
