  • Great mentor and discussion.

  • @bapyou you prove my point with your statement . you may not always be able to control how others treat you but you are always responsible for your own actions !

  • Ya know , my ancestors came here to the US from Germany in the 1870's . But I am not a German American. I am just an American .Why do Americans of African heritage get labeled as African Americans ? Most black folks that I know have had kin in this country for alot longer than I have , yet are still called 'African Americans". We are all just Americans

  • Jackie did testify against Paul but I cut him slack--he did apologize. Paul Robeson Jr. forgives him; Ossie Davis did as well. I believe the abuse Jackie took shortened his life. Sometimes we have to forgive.

  • I truly believe that the argument over the use of African American is an excuse to express the fear, anger and resent that still exists between the races. It is much like a married couple having an explosive argument over one of them leaving a sock on the floor. Obviously, the real problem is not the trivial petty sock on the floor, but no one wants to really delve into the messier issues. Additionally, mixed races are growing so fast that this argument seems even less important.

  • 2 Echos - African American is used to signify people who came to America through the middle passage and slavery. No one else. That means Obama is NOT African American. He is Black but not African American. If my African-American son bore a child in China then came to America, would the child be Chinese American since we are Black? No. It was a designation that we have taken to define ourselves instead of a designation that others gave us i.e. Negro, Colored etc.

  • This hang up with using African American as a designation of color is ludicris. According to most of the data, the origins of the homo sapien is centered in Africa, which is also often reffered to as the cradle of the world. So does this mean that we are all African American? What if a caucasian is born in Africa, and then moves to the states, does that not make that white guy an African American? See the problem here. Many AA's are so far removed from Africa that they could care less about it.

  • umm african american struggle , maybe the title itself is the reason you struggle , either your african , or either your american ! oh not to mention we have a black president now . people wake up the white man or white society is not trying to keep you down . look at all the famous and rich black people in america , they are not struggling but people with a victim mentality will never succeed. rap music makes slaves of black people now , especially black women are called bitches etc. wake up !

  • @saint27573 "look at all the famous and rich black people in america, they are not struggling but people with a victim mentality will never succeed."

A few token wealthy blacks have nothing to do with racist American institutions.

There are many wealthy whites, does this then mean all whites are wealthy or have the equal opportunity to become so? And why is money the only thing you reference as success?

Further, why do you believe such simplistic "analyses" as yours mean anything at all?

  • What,s up?????????????
