AMDs give great deals on their processors, cheaper boards, and provide the much needed competition for Intel, but come on guys, don't be blind. Current Intel CPUs are MUCH faster than the latest AMD processors. Hopefully Bulldozer is going to change that, but no need to hate on Intel.

We may as well face facts people, I worked at tigerdirect for a long time and I can tell you that as far as how "good" AMD and Intel are, they're EXACTLY the same! The advantages of one over the other from a performance standpoint is minimal at best and completely insignificant to the pc experience.(You wouldn't be able to tell one over the other) The only difference is value. I built a Phenom II X4 940 system because of price and I also don't want Intel to get a monopoly, that would suck.

As far as I am concerned, there isn't a motherboard out yet that houses Phenom 940's or Q-series (775) or CI7's in dual socket style. The 940 wasn't designed as a server processor and the predominance of dual socket boards are for server. To clarify: I own a Core2Quad Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz @ 3.2Ghz. I don't know exactly what you have in your system and therefore I can't compare them. The Q6600 doesn't outdo a phenom II 940, but for some dollars less, it stays up there and surpasses it in some fields.

The CI7 920 is clocked at 2.66Ghz and the Phenom 940 is at 3.0 flat. Based on knowledge of voltage input and some comparisons with average operating temperatures (account for the fact of just plain shitty coolers) The CI7 runs cooler than the phenom 940 which in-turn means longer MTBR. I have to admit the Front Side bus on the 940 is impressive, but comparing the FSB of a phenom 940 and a CI7's QPI is like comparing kittens to baseball.

Sorry, you're right. I meant to say the I7 has higher consumption (wattage) but a lower voltage and amperage requirement. I don't own an I7 920; I have an Intel Q6600 Kentsfield. But to back it up, it's not just a /small/ gain. Four cores with dual threading is way higher than the specification for a four core AMD. However, the Phenom 940 /does/ have 512kb per L2, but 2Mb less L3 than the CI7. The L2 cache has a lower latency and therefore seems a bit more important to me...

Haha. Ok, first off...You're basing processor performance off of the core's frequency; fail. Secondly, The X3 may have higher watt consumption, but it's rated at a lower voltage - lower temperatures. Thirdly, the I7's has four cores and two processing threads each - eight processing threads. Further more, Intel made the revolutionary X58 which has lower consumption, the Quick Path Interconnect, reducing latencies, and allows the utilization of DDR3 Triple Channel. Have I made my point?
