at 08:35 i wish i had a poster with that image on and for those who are wondering why flea's playing a different part 2 rob it's cause flea's bass is toned down
I don't agree with you naysaying on Rex, man. How many other bassists could keep up with Dimebag Darrell, let alone complement his parts perfectly? Other than Bob Zilla, not many. The man gets a lot of credit for if not creating, then popularizing the "walking" bassline that many a "groove-metal" bassist have used in the years since Pantera broke out in the 90's.

notice flea isnt playing 16th notes during the warm up and it looks the same when they play live. he is playing 8th notes. must be too fast for him. not surprised.
you wouldnt be sure because you have never seen or heard me play and no one would expect you to be sure of that anyway. i can tell you one thing, i am good enough to play the sixteenth notes in this song without a pick. but my ability to play is not a prerequisite for my commenting on another bassist's ability anyway. but if it matters, i play this song better than flea.
There is no best bassist, all of them have way different styles, Geddy is as technical as you can get, Flea combines funk and modern rock, John Myung tries to combine multiple music styles and comes off successful with technical playing. I prefer Flea tho as my choice, fuck all that technical shit, give me a song, not a fucking opus.
This is BY FAR one of the greatest clips to have seen the light for ages... FUCKIN AGES!!
They do have fun again, don't they??
I went to their gig in Chorzow, Poland two weeks later and it was fantastic! unfortunately they didn't play FIGHT.. :-( It's still my favourite song by Metallica. The pure essence. THANKS to Vulturous for posting this one!
Splosh, ya wont be able to tell if rob is a better player or not till the new album comes out... then we'll be able to hear wat sort of shit he can put out. But no doubt fuckin awesome bassist.
i think that rob is an awesome bassist because andone who can play with MetallicA using their fingers and playing songs like this and battery is a kick ass dude
and i think a lot of people "underrate" him because they like jason and cliff better and they never give rob a chance at all
I have and if u listen to most rush and drean theater... they r better. Geddy Lee is insanely good, same as the whole of Rush, they are akk great at wat they do. Neil Peart the best dummer in Rock, Geddy Lee the best bassist and Alex lifeson is insane at guitar. Something similar with dream theater!! Prog is 1 of the most technical forms of rock music
Just because some rankings place him above them doesnt mean they arent better. Listen to geddy lee's basslines and any of john Myungs, they are insane, they are just less well known than flea. Flea is still 1 of my favourites however, I like his slapping/popping style.
