Being a pilot is the coolest job ever. Thank you for posting this, it just made me add some more love to my flying passion. Cheers mate from Africa. B)
Fantastic! For the poster who questions the use of word "retard" this is actually the most appropriate audible que to do just that. Before the English language was hijacked by brainless yobs this is an old word meaning "reduce" or "decelerate". I personally have no issues with it and neither do my colleagues.
If you don't mind me asking... "Sound : Edited due to company regulations and my deal with my employe...." What was the deal and regulation? I'm about to head toward the airlines, and was wondering how they would feel about cameras in the cockpit.
@flintp51 yep, theres a rule for everything :) for the sound issue, no privat chatter and oppinions/Jokes shal be heard.
The Guys sometimes chat about non aviation related stuff, their wifes and holidays etc, and that has nothing to do online. Plus, only airbus specific procedures that every airbus operator uses as standart. I have began to leave some more sounds (ATC,Pilotvoices) in there lately, hope you all have noticed.
Regards, all the best for your career in the industry!
I know what it means and stuff, but I mean really... did they have to make their GPWS say retard? I mean really... what were they thinking. No other GPWS does that.
These days with the MCC course being so common, I am surprised that I dont hear the captain and first officer agree that they are landing when minimums is called.
Pretty amazing landing, suppose in those conditions braking power is reduced while reverse thrust doing miracles..Just out of curiosity which braking scale is used on snowy tarmac. (Full auto)?
Keep up the good work..hopefully someday i can visit a cockpit
Just out of curiosity: What date did you take this movie? I was myself on LX41 towards the end of 2010 and landed in ZRH in very similar weather conditions ... In any case, keep up the good job, it's always a pleasure to fly LX, and I don't mind seeing movies from the first row ;) Cheers from a regular client on LX40/41
@version147 That's the autopilot telling the pilot to put the thrust levers to idle so the spoilers can auto-deploy.
I flew the A340 as F/O for a while, and it is a great aircraft except for one major flaw. It has this inability to cancel out lift during touchdown, so no matter how good a pilot is (or autopilot w/autoland), the plane always bounces during the landing. The second time it touches down, it has reduced speed, and so makes a harder landing. I don't know why Airbus kept that flaw..
@dnhug Than for the reply and Great video!!. I take it that you'll be flying for swiss air, can you give me any advice on how you went about with your training, it seems to be financially challenging and time consuming unless you train as a cadet with that airline. Are you pursuing this training path? I want to fly for a European airline because think its less hassle than the U.S., in terms of hours required to fly commercially, which is lower in Europe. Let me know how your training goes.
@youngglasskid It's not how it used to be, sadly it isnt anymore. If you dont mind being away more then youre at home, and if you can stay up all night and sleep at rediculous hours, youl have a ball :)
I have a Question, When a pilot lands, how does he know where to go? Does he have directions from the tower? Or does he figure all that out before he leaves the first airport.
Also, How do they stay on the center taxiway line? Reference points in the cockpit? Or just practice!
@BobbyJEL101 well, the plane is been told where to go already before takeoff. The flightcrew recieves all actual date (active runway, wind and general weather info) before the flight.Since these datas change, theyl recieve the updated info before landing, so the plane can be programmed for the new approach.
ILS Landing, and taxi to the gate. Ifs a little practice to keep the plane on centerline, but its not that tricky :)
@BobbyJEL101 For landing in bad weather the pilots use a system called ILS (Instrument Landing System). This is where the pilot programs all the data for the runway they are landing on and the route to the airport for the plane to land itself. Whenever your on a plane landing in bad weather, it'll always be landed with the ILS which means the plane lands itself. Its perfectly safe and normal.
dumb question, but when the plane first touch down, the dots seems to move toward the plane a bit faster than they were when they plane was still in the air. so does that mean the plane is actually faster when it is 50 40 30 20 feet in the air than it is on the ground? or are those dots lay in different interval?
Landing the A340,for Swiss intl.,in Zurich, with heavy snow, manual landing and parking on gate E34(in front of the:ZURICH)...one of my 10s tops dreams...thank you very much...i`m so glad,i hope you post soon the long version...Thanks for share this incredible carrer...
