The BBC should bring thing theme back, not for nostalgic purposes but because it just sounded better in my books and had more heart in it than the one they use now.
I remember watching Casualty whilst in hospital myself with pneumonia and the episode was about a lorry crashing, (and eventually killing IIRC) a teenage girl due to the chemicals it was carrying.
This theme tune must've lasted a while as I was watching this as a kid in the mid 1990s and remember this theme tune. Interesting that the opening theme tune is faster than the ending. The beginning has the sound of urgency, an ambulance rushing to the hospital. The end tune is slower, lacks the urgency and sounds much sadder, possibly the slow journey to the hospital morgue...

yey - i was born in march 86 and grew up listening to these fantastic themes, thsoe wear the good old days watching analouge tv channels 1-4 :) the end theme always hits me in a certain way will always be a favourite.
im 25 and remember this from back in the day when tv was REAL tv - nowadays its all changed too much! i know its all about change at some point but some things should have stayed the same, not hearing this for over 18-19 years made me smile -great times :)
this version is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better. i rember being about 4 and it scared me but in a good way...i dont know why but i've always thought it was great, same as the old bill music
@MissVanD1 - some ambitious turd probably got promoted for changing the theme tune. There was NOTHING wrong with the original, no reason at all for changing it, but hey, don't let spoiling something for the viewers get in the way of your career!
fool, dont you know that medical students are mentored in the hospitals by the experienced doctors? it wouldnt make sense to portray on screen what isnt realistic, it defeats the whole point of the show. im sorry you dont like to see young people on tv, maybe you should go onto some type of therapy?
@Jasey2007 - I think what he means is that the focus is now far more on medical students than what it used to be on - the older episodes spent more time with the paramedics. Back when the series were shorter, they had more money to spend per individual episode, and so you saw more accidents taking place.
Casualty does seem to be ER-ing it up a bit though - not quite as bad as Holby, but still tending to attract eye-candy for medical staff.
now this music used to scare me as a kid as it used to remind me of dieing (spelling) just listen to it and think about dieing in hospital soon makes you think!!!!!!
@abdulqudz89 i hear that! saturday night with my dad as a youngster :) best times! now all it is is worrying about work, women, relationships and the future!
Also, call me a dick, but I actually like the fact that these sorts of programmes are having new themes, because in twenty years time, new generations will be hearing the new themes on youtube, and they'll all be discussing how it makes them remember their childhood.
I completely agree. Change is neccecary in all areas of life. I can bet you a good sum of money that if this theme had been kept for ALL of these years, the same people would say "why haven't they changed it yet?"
Not that I don't prefer this one, because I do. But at the same time, I accept that change is neccecary.
The BBC had to change the Casualty theme for the end titles because it was too long. They are only allowed to be30 seconds now. This was the best Casualty theme tune though.
@LordAntWarrior - Really? I've never heard a television them tune and thought 'That needs to change!'. Change IS important, but only when necessary - change merely for the sake of change is just stupid. THAT type of mentality belongs with yes-men and pseudo-intellectuals.
If that 30-second rule is true, it was a crap decision, along with voicing over the credits and squashing them into half the screen while posting self-promotional garbage/previews into the other half.
Just like Heartbeat, and The Bill themes, this brings back alot of memories of being around my Nan and Grandads house and them watching this while I sat on the floor and played with the dogs. Awesome tune.
This was the programme that used to be on just before I went into Town on a Saturday night ... so everytime I hear it, I get that rush of anticipation of a ruddy good night out! Epic theme!
i'll always remember this theme because it used to piss my dad off when he would take to the local working mans club on saturday night but i would make him sit throgh the 20 minutes of casualty just here this theme tune! LOL!
Brilliantly haunting. Even if you weren't familiar with Casualty, this music would still get you thinking of empty, echoing corridors, emergency sirens and dark streets...
Changing the original theme tune was the worst thing they ever did. It was probably some newly promoted director, producer or manager who wanted to leave their stamp. Wankers...
Too bad it turned into basically eastenders in a hospital, just like The Bill turned into eastenders in a police station pfft.

i so loved the old series,
what did it for me was:
The old music - this the medical comar type music
and the medical team, casualty today isn't the same with young doctors or med students,
bring back the old middle class mums and dads and the old people,
