  • S-U-P-E-R-!!!!!

  • This is total false....Bernie Miller wrote this song, and these are his words: No. No. No. I was in the Memphis studio playing on the piano when Don came in and heard my music. He said my music fit something he was working on. So he took my music, and merged it with his. A week later, when we met at his house, and he started playing the music, I said " it sounds like rain against my window bringing back sweet memories". That's how the song was born. Please remove his YouTube. It's false.

  • quantum physics

  • gorgeous woman, fantastic music

  • Is that the late Poppa Willie Mitchell in the studio?

  • Love all the versions of this song, but the original just cannot be beat. Thank you Ann

  • Great lyrics I like to think of Dr. Gastuv Eckstein short explaination , the difference 'brain' to 'mind'. Window vertical breathing that some monks explain . Season of the witch has similar lyrics biology and genetics philosophy. ad nauseam ad infinitum Charles Dodgeson. A cure for tumors in the music lyrics. Thanks again for the tune up.

  • im white, 26 and i know my music from aretha, to tina, to gladys, Pattie and many more, but most importantly i know about the the great music before them that is not so sung about which is a shame, music like Ella & Rosetta Tharpe, Mahalia Jackson, nat king cole, howling wolf, muddy waters etc..... there are so many that are un heard of or celebrated for truely putting music on the map. and yes im 26 its called education of music. for sakes if it wernt for previouse we would not have today.xxx

  • One of my favorite songs... Honnestly, who did what?... Just thank you whoever you are...

  • you chug Janis Joplin dick

  • you chug janis joplins dick

  • @bebeDBanana Wow, bitter much?

  • Wow. Sure are a lot of stupid people here. Janis Joplin couldn't have sung this song because she died in 1970 and the song was written in 1973. Lowell George didn't record it until 1979. As to whom among Bernie Miller Don Bryant and Ann Peebles actually took part in writing it, sounds like controversy.

  • Great video! Thank you for putting this up. What a great voice Ann has. Now I have a visual too.

  • I use to see her at Peyton Place in Memphis, back in the 70's she was bad.....just ask Missy Elliott

  • im always serious and dont call me Shirley

  • @bebeDBanana - OK?!

  • @bebeDBanana "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" is a 1997 hit song recorded by American rapper Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott. It was written and composed by Don Bryant, Bernard Miller, Elliott, and producer Timbaland for her debut album Supa Dupa Fly (1997) and contains a sample of Ann Peebles' 1974 single "I Can't Stand the Rain", whose lyrics serve as the chorus.

  • @heathern100

Hey dude,.. looks like you been smoking skunk ass too,... lowell george did NOT write this song!!

Dont smoke skunk ass,.. it makes you sound like shit!!!

  • I can't stand the rain lol. It was way before you guys, when JANIS JOPLIN was singing it! Taking the credit for other peoples songs-so original.Nice. Pricks.

  • @skunksmoker101 so where is it that janis joplin sung this ?,find me one shred of evidence , and if you are stupid enough to believe everything people post as a janis song on you tube then i suggest, in the strongest terms: "go back to your bowl and lose some more brain cells, you have like 2 left and both of those control you anus muscles, funny how you have a anus under your nose as well.

    Nice. Prick"

  • @skunksmoker101 u cant be serious

  • @skunksmoker101

Hey smoker you must have been smoking the ASS part of the skunk,... if you think janis joplin had anything to do with this song.

It was first released and charted in 1973,.... janis died in 1970

FAILURRRRRE,.... You got left with Pooo Breath!!

    Dont smoke skunk ass!!!

  • @bebeDBanana Great song Mr. Miller...seems it is always that way . Those that do the work never get full credit . Those who claim it (the work) just do not get the dirrerence between what is right and what is wrong. They will though... in the end when all things will come to light, and everything is answered for .

  • she's 100 percent +++++++++++ just love it

  • Heard it. Loved it from the first four bars in. Killer soul song. I wish my band would cover it!

  • Well she is only 62 so what do you expect to see her at 400 lbs and walking with a cane!

  • Can't help but compare voices here to tina turner. if i hadn't seent it 4 myself ida thot it was tina

  • ......Yep!

It's just enough where I think its Tina, but just different enough where I will ask if it is or not..

  • I can't stand it, Ann!

    Mercy!

    XOXOX

  • I don't mind the backstory...I think its cool to know how and why a song is written. Old people still got it.

  • Amazing! Still got it!

  • She stills sounds fantastic and geez, she's a fox!

  • blows my mind how good she looks, this is a lady.

  • This is Ann Peebles, rite? She still look and perform amazingly....

  • Hot damn.. this is the real R&B, not that modern shite..

I like the studio track alot better though ;)

  • Seal has just redone this on his new CD called "Soul"...check it out!!!!!

  • Even John Peel, who was a bit of a prat, liked this song

  • I remember this hit. Patrice Banks & Graham Central Station also recorded this song and had a hit.

  • What a voice. I admit, until tonight, I had never really listened to her. My loss, and now my gain. Love, love love. Can't count how many times I've listened this song so far, but more to come. "Can You Stand It?"

  • she is beautiful; just matured into a more fantastic persona. love her music and her personality.

  • I totally agree with ya b1a2n3k, this little woman is still beautiful. She and Sugar Pie DeSanto have aged so beautifully and have lost no soul!

  • i like Akon's song better

  • Probably 'cause you have no taste...just guessing.

  • listen to the version by Eruption

  • John Lennon loved it

  • after tina sing it, everyone sound... she is the best!!!

  • THANK YOU, for A FINE "ORIGINAL" and one of my most favorite songs of EVER - and the spirit in this clip is blessed!

I also create Originals, in my culture, and wonder if I shall be copied as you have.

Again, thanks for sharing your spirit, and to The Rain, as it Was God=Alohim who made you do it...

  • chill out song, nice voice, but many versions have been done but are all good. relaxing

  • Ann can express tenderness but Tina can't.

  • She looks good and sounds good.

  • Dude, maybe you "can't stand her version," but she wrote it, so she can sing it any way she damn pleases.

  • Can you sing???carry a note???SHUT THE HELL UP!!!!it´s her song and she can sing it any way she choose...

  • The only tune I ever heard Ann Peebles nail. She almost got "I'm gonna' Tear Your Playhouse Down", but not quite.

Plus this is an overdone version.

    Too bad!

    Itzik Basman

  • Instead of criticizing rap (and poor young black kids ) why don't criticize the buisness shysters who promote black pathology for profit to a majority white auidence. If it wasn't for Missy Elliot and other young bucks only old- skol blacks like myself and soul music fans would have remembered these classics.Poor Young black amerikkkan kids have been abandoned by everybody and now you people want to criticize.

  • Three words explain it:

    War on drugs.

America has criminalized young black men.

  • @newsoul Oh my god.. I am so sick of the black people sob story.. You all need to cut it out. Black American kids have been abandoned? Are you kidding me? Yeah, maybe by their parents. All you people do is feel sorry for yourselves and want pity from everyone. It's really getting old. Like 70 years old.

  • Yeah, Ann had IT! Now I want to hear: 99 Pounds of pure cane sugar, 99 pounds of soul. She had lots of hot stuff.

  • i think tinas version was better because it was fitting the mood

  • What an amazing singer! Compare this music to what the "kids" are to listening to today!

If they got the chance to hear truly great soul music like this, I think the just plain awful rap-era would cease to exist.Thank You Ann for your music!!!

  • Sorry, Tina, you were topped! :D

  • "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" Missy Misdemeanor Elliott samples "I Can't Stand The Rain" by Ann Peebles

  • my oh my ! so sweeeeeet!

  • So is this the third person that I've seen that sang this song. Who originated it??

  • Ann Peeoples

  • The version she sings on the T.V. add is much grittier! But this is great too.

  • Hi records had Al Green and Ann Peebles. They were Hi records heavyweights. Ann is a southern soul singer. She is a legend among soul singers. It is great to see that Ann and her husband, singer Don Bryant, marriage has endured.

  • I think that she is great too. That is where missy got the idea from that song

  • absoulutly Wonderful..Every word that comes out of her mouth ..is like a love song meant just for me...
