@ElectronicMusicUK Sure. In your opinion. Why do Kingsley use popcorn as a picture for that melody? Oh. It's the original version from 1969 that Hot Butter altered to sound more "correct". It sound pretty the same, only Hot Butter's version also souns more clean. Stan Free, member of the First Moog Quartet, rerecorded the instrumental with his band Hot Butter in 1972. Here you have my opinion.
@ElectronicMusicUK Oh my. YES OF COURSE -_- It would have been utterly completly pointless and retarded if I said so much, and not been listening to it. And that's what I meant. Hot Butter made it sound more cleaner in the beats, so it was better to like and be popular. And I do get the point that you think Kingsley's version is boring. You have been mentioning it in your every response.
@wipf1000 These pictures, and many like it, are done by guys with spray paint and shapes which they use. It only takes them a matter of minutes to do and it is pretty amazing to watch how they take shape. Very popular art form in the canary islands.
I don't get people making that mistake, it's even less understandable that people thinking it's Kraftwerk. It's not in the slightest Jarre or Kraftwerk's style.
Check out the Anarchic System version from '72, most versions have a slightly creepy vocal, but other than that, this version seems based more closely on that than the Hot Butter version etc. especially in the swirly arpeggio bit (other than the drum production and the sample of the bloke going "Ba Ba Ba....")
Yes, M & H Band band, 1987. Maybe the poster is keeping the video title to get more views! Before he got really big, Jean Michel Jarre recorded a version in 1972 among quite a few other versions recorded at the time
@shift0 Hot Butter??? You freaking mad? The Hot Butter version has (some of the funkiest) live drums (ever), and it was made in 1972, go figure. Hot Butter version beats everything and this sucks!
LOL, what JMJ has to do with this? search for 'M & H Band - Popcorn' - the upload from "ericusa2002" (watch?v=7SB8zO0d0_U&feature=related). Great sound quality though!
@hanspf23 Hi, i´m writting to you because i think you know about this kind of music. I love JMJ, i think he based his work on simple melodies and spectacular special effects. I would like to know if you share my opinion on this: I think JMJ took this Pop Corn melody, modified it a little bit, played it slower and added a lot of special effects and he got his most famous pice Oxygen IV..... let me know your opinion please. Grettings from Peru, from a big JMJ fan :)
@chirimanar This song is originally composed by Gershon Kingsley in 1969. In 1972 group called "Hot Butter" made most famous version of this tune. Up to this day this song has about 500 and more cover versions.
@Prindis thanks for the information, it´s always good to know. I just knew it was not composed by JMJ, but as i said, i think Jarre made Oxygen4 just by slowing down the PopCorn melody.
I do love Jarre´s work, but i think he just copied Popcorn, added a lot of special effects and got his master piece Oxygen4
