I would say this is one of my favorites, but they all are my favorites. Saw him in Taos and he had a drummer named Jose Murdoch. I named my next cat after Jose.
J.J. Cale was the first person I saw perform when I landed in Nashville in '78. My friend Benita Hill was singing backup for him and there were only a few of us in the audience.....but I was moved then and am still moved by his music.
JJ is all about "less is more" Saw him at Hammersmith in '93 and he shuns all the adulation and fame stuff. He plays and sings phenominal music as if he's sittin on his porch and the sound and playin sends ears into raptures. Listen to "Magnolia"and I reckon it could make you fall in love with your own mother in law!
I graduated in 53. I have always liked the old R&B songs. The high school I went to had quite a few musicians who became well known. I believe David Gates who was with Bread was from Tulsa. and Eldon Bishop. The 50's were alot of fun. So different from today. I will be 75 in February.
Those "strange to humanity and the life thatshould also run int otheir blood " -who am i to know??? are the most deadly useless rapasses .All the others just happen to be born not-in-your-area or from coloured mothers or in other nations...You know a real utter STRANGER when you see one hé.
if you listen to any of knopfler stuff you can here jj cale. the whole way he sings is in jj cales style and his guitar style has hints of jj laid backness.
@rosharris JJ Cale is an Idol to Clapton and many others too - Clapton changed his way to play the guitar, completely, after hearing JJ's playing, and Knopfler, he just listened very carefully how to play in a cool way :) JJ Cale is God and both Eric Clapton and Mark Knopfler are his talented disciples. JJ is the coolest man alive, easy.
I like playing along with this on my Ibanez

JJ Cale is a giant. I heard Neil Young in an interview say " I'll
never be able to play guitar like say someone like JJ Cale"
Says alot.

JJ Cale went to my High School in
Tulsa, He was a couple grades
behind me. He and Leon Russell were
both from Tulsa. Eric Clapton, Leon
Russel and JJ worked together on
their music. I never met him but my
brother-in-law knew him they lived
in the same neighborhood.

oh nice, I'm glad you have a sense of humor and didn't take offense at my dry attempt at humor.
all the best.

My whole family has a sense of humor, .
My husband was a Marine when I married
him, so I have heard just about everything
imaginable.LOL. I can't imagine how boring
life would be if you coudn't "let your hair
down" once in awhile. I just sent my son
a fudge "Cow Pattie" from Georgia for
his birthday. It was nestled in a box of fake
green grass, complete with the cow that
dropped it. LOL Have a fun day.
