thank you so much!!!!! i tried the square gate mod and im loving it...i went from a arcade fighter ps3 stick to a hori tekken 5 10th anni stick and it boggled my mind that the hori had a FUCKING SQUARE GATE! who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to put those into a fighting game stick? while its not as smooth as my octagonal gate on my arcade fighter(which is weird to say) its still amazing, and i left a tad bit of edge cuz i used a file and its almost like using an oct gate
@darkinertia2 Madcatz and Hori works with japanese arcade parts. Square gate is the standard in Japan, every player (top professional player or not) plays on square. It's not a matter of a good idea or not, asshole......that's the way it is. If youre not comfortable with square (balltop joysticks) buy American style one.
@DanielFSMedeiros i got a sanwa octagonal gate...its one of the top selling products on lizardlick and its the first mod people do to their stick on srk. its cool that you dont like change, but i like to be proactive about it...if something doesnt work right, like too much throw or loose spring, i like to improve it. this "thats just the way it is" attitude is just plain inefficient. once i got an octagonal gate i almost rarely drop an input and thats one less curve i have to go over
@darkinertia2 Yes, you have options, good to know that you have bought a official option instead of break a stock piece. I understand your point but you didnt understand mine.......the way that you said before, was like the manufacturer don't know how to do correctly (FUCKING SQUARE GATE! who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to put those into a fighting game stick?). Japanese arcades works with square. Madcatz just brings from original to home versions.
@DanielFSMedeiros honestly, your right it was an asshole comment lol. when i said that, i didnt know much about sticks at all and i thought square gates were inferior cuz everyone i knew was swapping them out with octagonals, but truth is, im starting to use my square gate now that i have my mvc2 TE for ssf4 and it works great with that game and i leave my hori with the octagonal for mvc2 and 3 which is kinda ironic lol it made me want to try out more parts to experiment what id do best with
@jasperbluto hey finally someone isnt stupid lol...ive switched from silicone oil and its waaay better with moving parts and you dont get that gunk after a while like with wd40
hey im having a problem with my te stick see i cant crouch or do any downwards movements do you have any idea what might be wrong with my stick? plz help
This whole thing is retarded and more than likely ruined his stick.
Buying an octagonal gate is easy and they are not expensive.
Also, I fail to see how square gates are a "problem." Problem with Americans is that they grew up playing with clunky and poorly made arcade equipment to begin with.
Nice Video, interesting and cheap way to mod it up. I have been looking around the next and was wondering if you knew how to take away a bit of the sensitivity in the TE joystick? I love fighting games, but like the sticks to have more of a old school give to them. Right now the TE is too sensitive for me when it comes to doing hodukens move responses.
Question: if square gate offers a hard haouken/shoryuken performing, why japanese professional sticks like sanwa and seimitsu are best sellers? Might be some reason to do square as default instead circular.
Can u just buy a circle motion joystick online anywhere? I been looking & cant find one. I am an old school SF player from the aracdes in like 95 or so & when I bought the Mad Catz SE Fight Stick. I noticed the square movement real fast & it sucks because you used to have to be real good with the circle joystick to do an upper cut while crouching and now with this square joystick all you have to do is slide it back and forth at the bottom. I dont want to do what u did n fear of damage 2 my stick
Go to lizardlick (dot) com for arcade parts. They have stuff such as Sanwa buttons, joysticks, etc. When I wen't to the site I'm pretty sure I saw circle motion joysticks as well as octagon motions and square motions. If your planning on modding your fight stick you can buy the circle/ octagon/ square motion parts separately and customize your stick to the way you want it to feel. I even saw American style joysticks.
shoryuken forums has a couple of people who sell custom circle gates for sanwa jlfs. if you still have the tournament edition stick, swap out the sanwa joystick with a seimitsu ls-32-01 with a bat top and circle gate. i think you might like the ls-32-01 better.
hey good vid. but wouldn't doing this make the restrictor hole bigger than a regular stock circular restrictor piece? So that would put larger room on the joystick motions, which is more work for the user.
A 1" countersink drill bit make a very small circle. Almost perfectly fits in the the original square gate. I don't see and slower reaction to the circle motion afterwards. Smooth and still feels tight.

What is wrong with square gate? is it necessary to have octagonal gate?

FYI - WD40 IS NOT OIL. It actually will dissolve oils and other lubricants. If you want lubrication, use OIL, not WD40

Hey man, is this the same problem on the Tournament Edition? I've noticed problems with my sho/hadu's!!! PLEASE let me know bud.
BigScary529 2 years ago
No Tournament Edition uses authentic Sanwa joystick parts. Which should be more reliable.
